Storm grows over Mohammad cartoons

Recommended Posts

(CNN) -- The international storm over cartoon drawings of the Prophet Mohammad published in European media gathered pace across the Islamic world Thursday with angry demonstrations and the shutting down of the EU office in Gaza City.

Just caught this on local news. A french newspaper also that ran the cartoons also stated yes we do a have a right to make fun of god. The head guy of the french paper was then fired.

The rebuttle by some on the muslim outrage is the that no one from the muslim community kicked up a stink with a cartoon that ran in a muslim paper depicting Jewish as Cannibals.

Muslims are now burning Danish flags for a change.

Yep. The whole thing started with a Danish newspaper printing the cartoon. A while later a Norwegian christian newspaper printed the same cartoon. The French, German and Italian newspaper did the same just after.

I think the reason the danish newspaper did it was something along the line that they believe that there is a hidden cencorship of what you can write about the muslim world. For instance: It's OK to critisise Bush and Blair, but can you critisise muslim countries? It's ok to write satire about christianity, but is it ok to the same about islam? And so on.

If you ask me, the whole thing has just proven the danish newspapers point. The newspaper prints a cartoon, and in response, muslim fundamentalists threaten to kill all danish in the Gaza strip. That's pretty extreme and provocative if you ask me. The best thing would be if all the newspapers in the western world printed the cartoon, just to prove that we live in countries with liberty of the press.

Muslim anger on cartoons spreads .No apology over Mohammad images, says Denmark

You know this is getting quite out of hand. I'm all for religious tolerance (even though I don't believe in it myself), the world better wake up to this and tell this religion to sit down and shut up.

TownHall: Additional Newspapers Challenge Muslims Over Prophet Cartoons

"The protests from Muslims would be taken more seriously if they came across as less hypocritical," the Hamburg-based daily said, noting that no protests greeted the depiction by Syrian television of rabbis as cannibals.

Iraq's top Shiite cleric, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, condemned the cartoon depictions in a posting on his website Jan. 31.

"We strongly denounce and condemn this horrific action," al-Sistani said.

However, the cleric did not encourage any protests and he even placed some responsibility on militant Muslims for the negative way that Islam is depicted, AP reported.

Syed Soharwardy, of the Islamic Supreme Council of Canada, appeared on Canada AM Friday saying that Canadian Muslims were upset but that they were dealing with the situation constructively, by emailing and phoning officials.

"The Muslims in Canada, they are outraged," Soharwardy said. "They are expressing their anger through peaceful means they are protesting against these horrible cartoons that have offended Muslims around the world."

im surprised nomad hasnt carpet bombed this thread already

nekulturny? What does that mean?

its russian... im talking about the muslim extremists who are so pissed about this that theyre threatening to kill people... they are nekulturny... uncultured barbarians.

i see cartoons, drawn by americans mind you, that bash america, the president, religion, whatever... now im sure some of these "cartoonists" recieve death threats from a handful of individuals (american nekulturny) with the mental capacity akin to a jar of mayonnaise, but for the most part we realize folks are just exercising that precious 1st amendment right. i dont have to agree with whats written or drawn... but im not going to threaten to kill the poor guy whos just trying to speak his mind.

something these nekulturny could learn from...

Direct translation means uncultured. Can be applied to rude, obnoxious, bad behaved, bad mannered individual. Like if someone is pushing through a line of people, or someone who is dissrespectfull. Barbarian would pretty much sum it up too.

Nomad is not here because he is not against such behavior. In his mind their actions are fully justified. He would go into some twisted tirade about how they take their religion very seriously and by making light of it, the civilized world is wrong, free speech doesn't apply to making fun of muslim religion. He already told us how heavily he is influenced by the middle eastern culture, and the whole processing of information about it in dozens of languages, it needs to be taken very seriously and respected, or more heads might roll. ROFL The reason he hasn't done so, is because if he were to plainly state that, then even the most lame person would see him and what kind of logic his socialism breeds.

Who knows, maybe he will post and be able to confuse the ignorant with a jumble of words that disguise the meaning behind the statement, something to the extent of "I understand the actions of the muslims, however I don't condone it, but they are right in killing, shooting, abducting and threating free speech in defending their faith. Also, I read their informational news and also view their televized broadcasts, some even send by satelite with un-altered signal, from original and documented destination, in original language. So you can't udnerstand their reaction because you can't understand their language, and the commandments of their faith. You would be able to if you could process it in German, Spanish, English, Spanglish, Russian, Italian, Indian, and Arabic."

However, that wouldn't work in this case because even the most lame person in the world can understand that shooting, killing, maiming, abducting, threatening, ect... someone for expressing their views is WRONG. Of course, in his attempt to blur the distinction of differences between the civilized world and middle east, he would point out that in US (almost exlusevly by the way) liberals and democrats are often threatened and sometimes killed for expresing their views. Which would be a blatant lie, and as I will point out, in the civilized world those kinds of incidents/crimes are exceptions commited by a lunatic. Much unlike in the middle east where such actions are MAINSTREAM.

You mean Mohamed. The same guy that had his brother divorce his wife so HE could marry her. The same guy that was sleeping with 8 year old girls. They are rioting because people printed cartoons about that guy, but they are not rioting the rape of little girls, looting of others property, and murder of innocent people, all the CRIMES COMMITED BY HIM?

"In studying the life of Mohammed in an unbiased, factual way free of blind adoration for the man, we see that Mohammed did not fit the description of a man keeping himself pure before God. In fact, his whole life was that of a man living to fulfill his lusts and desires, living a self-centred life at the expense of those who got in his way. This is perhaps not more clearly shown than in his manifested weakness for women. The Qur'an in Surah 4:3 limits a man to four wives, but Mohammed went well beyond this limit. Mohammed took to himself 16 wives through formal marriage. In addition, he kept two women as slave-concubines, and had four devout Muslim women who "gave" themselves to Mohammed as acts of devotion. The complete list of Mohammed's women is below."

"Some notes ought to be made concerning some of these women. His first wife, Khadija Bibi, was his employer while he was still a caravan driver. She was his senior by 15 years, and many indications seem to show that she proposed to him, unusual for Arabian society at the time, but less so when the man was in an inferior social and economic situation to the woman 35. His sixth wife, Zaynab of Jahsh was originally the wife of his adopted son, Zayd. However, Mohammed became smitten with Zaynab, and Zayd offered to divorce her so that she could marry Mohammed. This was carried out, and caused great scandal among the early Muslim followers until Mohammed had a timely revelation."

"Behold! Thou didst say to one who had received the grace of Allah and thy favor: "Retain thou thy wife, and fear Allah." But thou didst hide in thy heart that which Allah was about to make manifest: thou didst fear the people, but it is more fitting that thou shouldst fear Allah. Then when Zaid had dissolved with her, We joined her in marriage to thee: in order that there may be no difficulty to the Believers in marriage with the wives of their adopted sons, when the latter have dissolved with them. And Allah's command must be fulfilled." (Surah 33:37)

Poof! Problem solved, and it suddenly became acceptable for men to marry the wives of their sons. Interestingly, it is in this same surah that Mohammed was given a special exemption from the four-wives limit imposed earlier (Surah 33:50)."

"Perhaps most disturbing of all of Mohammed's relations with women is his taking of his third wife, Ayesha. She was six years of age when he "married" her, nine when he consummated the relationship, and she remained his favourite wife throughout the rest of his life. When he died at the age of 62, she was a mere 17 years old. This episode in Mohammed's life points to very distressing paedophilic tendencies in the man."

"Muslim men are promised 72 young virgins for perpetual enjoyment. For the sake of propriety, I won't include the quotes, but this all is right there in the Qur'an, in Surat 37:40-48, 44:51-55, 52:17-20, 55:56-58, 70-77, 56:7-40, and 78:31. Additionally, sodomy with young boys plays a role in the Muslim paradise (Surat 52:24, 56:17, and 76:19) with these boys being described using much the same language as was employed to describe the virgins. Of course, Islam's paradise has plenty of wine, wealth, and food for the enjoyment of those who have passed on. Mohammed was a man for whom the fulfillment of bodily pleasures was of paramount, and some would say, consuming importance."

"In 623 AD, Mohammed's career in caravan piracy began. Late in that year, several of his Muslim followers, acting upon his orders, ambushed and looted a small Meccan caravan. In this raid, one Meccan was killed, two others taken as slaves, and a sizeable amount of booty captured 38. Emboldened by this success, Mohammed next personally led a raid on the main caravan of the Meccan Quraysh tribe, returning from Syria. In this raid, he led 305 men and was engaged in battle at Badr by a Meccan force of 800-900, with the outcome being a Muslim win. While this Muslim victory was a comparatively small fracas, it is heralded as one of the greatest victories in history by many Muslim historians. The Muslims considered it a miracle from Allah, and viewed it as giving sanction to their piracy."

-----Mmmm. Yeah. We killed 800 people with our 300, so must be because God is OK with us murdering and looting. Lets go do it some more.

It was at this time that Mohammed finished the expulsion of the several Jewish tribes from Medina, and expropriated their lands and properties for himself and his followers.

During the course of all this fighting and raiding, Mohammed and his Muslim followers developed a love for fighting and loot which came from the life of piracy.

Mohammed was a violent man. As with other pagan war leaders of his day, it was not merely enough to defeat and control an enemy. After defeating one Jewish town, Mohammed ordered the beheading of all the adult males in the place, numbering anywhere from 700-1000 individuals. The women and children were sold into slavery, and the town looted 43. Muslim tradition also recounts that upon taking Mecca, Mohammed ordered the death of a poetess of the city, Asma daughter of Marwan, who had ridiculed him and who had pointed out that some of the material in the Qur'an had actually been stolen from her father, also a poet, and used by Mohammed. The traditions relate this story as follows,

ÔÇ£The Apostle of Allah said, 'Who will rid me of the daughter of Marwan?' ÔÇ£

Upon hearing this, the Companion Umair ibn Udaj went to her house and killed her, reporting back to Mohammed of the deed the next day. It is then recorded,

ÔÇ£Then in the morning he was with the Apostle of Allah and said to him, 'O Apostle of Allah, verily I have killed her.' Then (Mohammed) said, 'Thou hast helped Allah and His Apostle, O Umair!' ÔÇ£44

Thus, this "prophet" ordered the death of a woman because of personal vendetta and to protect himself from charges of plagiarism!

Is there anything left to mock? Muslims should be outraged at the TRUTH about Mohammed, but they seem to be more upset at caricatures and fictional cartoons then at the mans actions, which tells us a lot when the people praise, follow and reveer this child molester, looter, thieving criminal. Christianity teaches to forgive, to not be envious and jealous of others success, Islam teaches to loot, steal and kill, as is proven by Mohammeds actions and "revelations".

I wonder if this could possibly encourage more terrorism in the EU or the world I should say, not that it takes much to encourage them as we've seen. A cartoon has made millions want to lay waste to a continent.

Animals don't kill for revenge or out of stupidity. They only kill for food or if threatened.

Maybe the only animal that would apply is rabbid dog. Those are the only ones that attack just because you pointed at it.

Wonder what the animals rights freaks would say if you killed a rabbid dog. ROFL, Lets say a mountain lion wondered into a small town, started killing people and the sheriff put it down. Imagine the outcry of the animals rights morons, "That mountain lion was just doing what it was supposed to do naturally, it's just a poor animal, if we could understand it better, be more humble, and not encroach on it's habitat, it wouldn't attack us". We can draw a paralel to the situation we have now, the liberals and the terrorists. "Terrorists are people too. They are just doing this because we are the bad guys, drawing cartoons about their religion, encroaching on the middle east, buying their oil, drawing them into the 21st century. If we just would be more humble, understand them better and appologise for our way of life, things would be better. They are just doing what their religion tells them to do naturally."

My muslim friends tend to dissagree. They HATE those freaks that disgrace their religion by murdering and taking life. Those barbarians, and those murderers offend them just as much as those cartoons offend those protesters, criminals and terrorists.

Part of the problem with being involved in any religion is that to some extent, you are viewed as part of a 'collective', not an individual entity. Almost as if some hive mind is controlling all of the followers of that religion.

Every time Pat Robertson says something stupid, it reflects badly on all Christians, even though he doesn't speak for the vast majority of them. One needs to look no further back in history than the Crusades to see how horrific things are done in the name of religion. In the case of the Crusades, bloodlust, not salvation, was the driving force. Religion was just the thin veil used to justify atrocities. Call themselves what they will, these people were not Christians.

What is going on because of some artist's doodle makes me sick. If I were a practioner of Islam, I'm sure I'd be pretty mad about the cartoon, but would I be enraged to the point of murder? If I were, could I truly even be considered 'religious'? I have read that some muslim groups have accepted the apology from the Danish government - these are the ones who I consider to represent Islam, such as it is. The people doing violence in the name of religion are vile hypocrites, and are acting like no better than animals. What kind of treatment do you really expect when you behave in this manner?

Just as it was in 1100AD Christianity, it would appear a large majority of muslims have no right whatsoever to the ethnical claim they make.

Leave them be and sabotage a guy like Osama trough covert ops.

You can't just walk into a country like that and start a war. Because that will only create "terrorists". Don't you see it ? There is no organized terrorist network, there are only individuals that share the same extreme idealism. Those guys have no future and some Imam says: "If you blow yoourself up, you got to heaven". Bam, terrorist.

There was no reason whatsoever to be in Iraq. There were no WMD's and no terrorists. Invading Iraq made an allready unstable situation even more unstable.

Bush Senior understood that, I stll wonder why junior couldn't.

I see thanks for the response.

This is not a "War in Iraq was/was not justified" thread.

However, this statement bears redressing:

" There were no WMD's and no terrorists."

Utterly false, and it has been proven as such. No WMD's maybe, but Iraq had terrorists and terrorist camps aplenty. Twisting the truth to fit your reality might be convenient, but it isn't right.

the country/countries involved have every right to print what they want in their papers. if i went to saudi arabia, and seen in their papers anti american propoganda, i would be understandably upset... but not to the point of violence because i realize that saudi arabia is not my COUNTRY OF ORIGIN. im in their house, i have to play by their rules... i dont and im out on my ass. end of story.

and i love how the loudest complainers of this cartoon bit argue against the free speech acpect... "oh theyre just using free speech as a crutch to get away with it bakalakadaka" of course their going to argue against something they dont even implement into their own culture... god forbid someone should have a non conformist view... infidels! how dare they go against the collective! im sure those of us who live here in the states see enough caricatures of the president and various symbols of religion in the local papers (i have, and i live in a small town) but even if i disagree with the cartoon, i respect the persons right to express themselves... too bad some others cant do the same.

I think that there are times a cartoon can go to far but I don't think this is it. Unfortunately this seems to be the standard response to just about everything they don't like.

Personally, I can't wait to see the next cartoon with a depiction of Allah...
