Supreme Cmdr Posted April 14, 2004 Report Posted April 14, 2004 Can't wait for my reference board to arrive shortly. You can read about it here, here and here. For HW previews, here is the take from the usual suspects AnandTech Guru3D HardOCP Tom's Hardware Firing Squad on the 6800 Ultra & 6800 GT ...of course, you can expect an ATI hardware announcement to following velly, velly, soon. Guest $iLk Posted April 15, 2004 Report Posted April 15, 2004 I wonder how the 9800 Pro XT stands against this? (256MB Memory)
Eclipse Posted April 15, 2004 Report Posted April 15, 2004 if you believe the stats they posted on the sites, it's about double the framerates or more.
Guest Fox__Trot Posted April 15, 2004 Report Posted April 15, 2004 I belive that ATI has something much better hidden up there sleeve... and I also belive that nvidia has/will have driver updates that boost performance 50% or more on select cards! therefor I think this round should be really neat to see who's got the nicer cards (Pulling for ati here but the cycle after this i'll pull for nvidia)
Pedro Pablo Laracuente Posted April 15, 2004 Report Posted April 15, 2004 uhh, the battle is heating up again, things should be getting really interesting and neat (prices dropping for the older models too!) From all that info it seems that we have a big monster of a card coming out.
Kalshion Posted April 15, 2004 Report Posted April 15, 2004 I wonder what type of rubbish the reviewers will spout this time? I still liked the review about the GeForce FX 5900 and how it sounds like a boeint 747's engines starting up, I own the card and its very quiet the only time it ever makes noise is when I run Universal Combat =) But lets see what happens, I vote for Nvidia They've never let me down! (ATI has let me down one to many times)
lhadley Posted April 18, 2004 Report Posted April 18, 2004 This looks like one kick-ass card, from all appearances that fixed all the problems that caused the FX series to not live up to the promise of their high bandwidth specs. I don't know if I want to spend cdn$750 on a video adapter though. On the bright side, they should be discounting the FX5950 shortly after it gets released to market.
Guest Fox__Trot Posted April 19, 2004 Report Posted April 19, 2004 that wind tunnel design was CRAPPPP (and silly) and my card *which I dont have anymore* made noise -all- the time louder then the 5 fans I have in my case... I returned that fx card in 4 days after purchase (Planetside)

It was the previous FX boards that had the awful fan I think. The fan on the FX 5900 Ultra is still a tad loud, but no louder than the fan in my Radeon 9800Pro.
Guest rtoolooze Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 Yes, you are right S.C. It was the FX 5800 that had that loud fan. You know, I've been holding on to this 'Ol ti 4600 for a long time. I think the time has come to get a new card. (Now where did I put that pistol and ski mask at, hmmmmmm.....)
