Cruis. In Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 ok, over christmas I bought half life 2... rome total war and VM:B. I have played hl2 and rome a little just to see how much rome is, because my current setup cant get passed 15 fps. gonna order a new pc...I could get a good dell for 750 u.s then buy a video card... dell's special offers for the current week end today, I'm wondering if prices will drop further tomorrow or go up... or I could just get the video card in one of dell's because there selling a geforce 6800 with one of there setups, not an ultra but still good enough for my needs I think. I wonder if a 9800 pro or xt would run Rome total war good...Ive heard it performs great, and I don't generally run any games above 1024, or 2x AA. here are the choices, help me choose. Radeon x800 XL Radeon 9800 Pro GeForce 6800 Radeon 700

However, I own a Radeon Pro 9800 and Rome: Total War. I am very happy with the way the card runs R:TW and I use 1025 x 768 32 bit resolution. Just my two cents!
Guest $iLk Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 nVidia lost me after the Geforce 3... I own a 9800 Pro and RTW and it works out great... i also have hl2 and VTM:B You won't be disappointed unless your cooling isn't great in your PC.
TARWMSRK Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 If you have the money-- id say go for the 6800. RTW runs pretty well on a 9800 pro but a friend of mine says he does get problems with games from time to time.
jamotto Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 quote:Originally posted by Cruis. In: Radeon x800 XL Radeon 9800 Pro GeForce 6800 Radeon 700 You really need a good processor (AMD 64 or P4 EE) to get the most out of the X800, X700 and 6800. If you pick the 9800 Pro, these cards can be mod'ed to 9800 XT's as long has you get the right revision of the board. In any case as other people have said, any of the above cards should be more than enough.
Cruis. In Posted January 5, 2005 Author Report Posted January 5, 2005 well, I think I've narrowed it down to two x800 XL and geforce 6800 after reading all about the XL, it is rather good. Slightly better than the 6800. But due to who knows what no XL's are really available yet... looks like out of neccessity it will be the 6800. I'm gonna wait see what dell changes on the 7th before I order. thanks for the input...
Cruis. In Posted January 6, 2005 Author Report Posted January 6, 2005 screw it all, I bought the x800 XT.... major remorse after I'm finished the current line up of games I have... hahaha
