LostInSpace Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 It's been a rocky road but here's the latest. GameSpot: GSC's statement shot down rumors that the plug had been pulled on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. by saying that it "is being actively developed in close cooperation with the publisher." It also explained that reports of layoffs were greatly exaggerated. "None of the leads, programmers and moreover, testers may not be reduced at any time," it said. GSC also reiterated that it is the sole owner of the game's X-Ray and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 engines. ------------------------------------------------ To clarify the concerns of some fans regarding S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-related rumours to have appeared recently on the net, GSC Game World believes it necessary to explain the following: 1. The project is on the stage of beta approval and is being actively developed in close cooperation with the publisher. 2. The team has undergone certain reductions, particularly in the art section, due to all the graphics-related works being almost complete (out of 40 people 5 were dismissed). None of the leads, programmers and moreover, testers may not be reduced at any time. 3. Regarding the technology leak, none of the designers gone has the rights to the gameÔÇÖs engine (all the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. technologies, including the X-Ray engine and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-2 engine belong to the company). Even if the current or next-generation engine would appear on the net, their legal use is impossible. GSC does not intend to sell its technologies in the nearest time, so as does not intend to postpone the release of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl due to rumours of that kind.
Supreme Cmdr Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 They're lying. The game has been delayed for a full year to 2007. A game nearing Beta approval doesn't get delayed for a full year. Apparently THQ has reined them in and taken control of the project. During THQ's financial conference call to discuss their latest results, company execs revealed that two of their main PC titles, the Gas Powered Games RTS title Supreme Commander and the long-in-development GSC Gameworld first person shooter STALKER, will now be released during THQ's 2007 fiscal fourth quarter which means they are now targeted for release between January and March of 2007.

I figured their statements were just damage control to counter the rumors. To tell you the truth, haven't been keeping track of the game that much figuring it will come out when it comes out. But boy, have I/we been waiting what seems like quite a long time. Anyway, The game started development in 2001 and here we are like 5 years later. Wasn't Rome built faster? My only concern now is that it was worth the wait or that is doesn't become vapor ware. I wonder how much development costs has already been put into the game so far. Going to see if I can find anything but I won't hold my breath.
Soback Posted February 5, 2006 Report Posted February 5, 2006 Forget that game. Oblivion is coming out pretty soon, and it's from Bioware, proven company, proven franchise, good games. And I just got that powerleap upgrade for my motherboard. When I get time, I'll just get a better 3D card and some more ram. Good to go.
Supreme Cmdr Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 Oblivion from Bioware? Have you been drinking?
Guest Grayfox Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 i thought oblivion is done by bethesda? did they change again?
Soback Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 ROFL, ooops, I was also thinking of Neverwinter Nights at the time I posted that. I've been thinking about it for the last 4 days. Wanted to re-install and play it, but can't find the CD, not even the box, which is kinda weird since I keep them all in one place.
