Caine Posted March 11, 2001 Report Posted March 11, 2001 I didn't post this in the new commanders thread, because it has more to do with the RPG board.I would just like to know what kind of liscense are we given with describing the races and their culture. Has there been any formal description of their appearance, or a detailed description of their culture?I just want to know because I have a Vesperon character, and I don't want to be sucking vacuum because I said she had claws, cat ears, and a tail when she has small pointed ears, regular fingers, no tail, etc...etc... Guest Steve Link Posted March 11, 2001 Report Posted March 11, 2001 I would like to add a question regarding how much leeway we are given to describe organizations outside of the main military fleets? i.e say I wanted to play a member of the police caste, could I be a dashing member of the Starlaw Rangers, or would I be commanding the GPV-Civil Servant (Generic Police Vessel)? The manual has pictures of their leaders and a brief description of their culture and political leanings towards their neighbors.
Caine Posted March 12, 2001 Author Report Posted March 12, 2001 I am aware of that, but it doesn't give an image of their entire body, and the descriptions don't go into much deatil. I know they are somewhat warlike, etc... but these two are married. She is going to be around a lot. I want to know about any fine detail, so I don't make any bad mistakes. Things like: -symbols of marriage (I have a concept already, but I want to be sure it will be allowed) -do they have tails. (Is it long, short, etc?) -Does their fur cover their whole body? How long is it typically. ETC. ETC. ETC...

Ben Somerset Posted March 13, 2001 Report Posted March 13, 2001 Or The Apocalypse series, detailing the Gammulan Incrusion of 3000. Things have certainly changed since those days... Caine; As far as the Vesperon's, I think I'm the only one so far who has a Vesperon who plays an important role on the ship. At one time DeSylva remarked that Soran sounded much like "someone else with pointed ears", referring to Spock. He is correct in how I portray the character. Inherently logical, willing to debate (logically of course) with anyone on board. Of course, Soran may also not be a typical Vesperon in his views. They may be culturally or regionally based. So far, I haven't really described his appearance, but I personally believe from the docs that Vesperon are humanoid. They may have some feline characteristics, but I've never envisioned them with a tail. How far the fur goes is probably up to personal preference. As for marriage, Soran hasn't selected a mate...yet. Steve;I would probably suggest sticking with the GalCom Police Forces, or something similar. Also, the ship designation (GCV, ECV, ICV, UCV) has been a hot issue in the past. The SC doesn't easily tolerate violations of this. As such, I'd stick with GCV or UCV. Otherwise, ye might be askin' for the SC's wrath. And Gallion can tell you that one should do one's best to avoid it.------------------ Commander Benjamin Somerset GCV Swiftsure, Wraith HQ (Lyrius) Wing Leader - Wraith Fleet/SIN Wing Stealth is the only thing between you, and your enemy's guns.[This message has been edited by Ben Somerset (edited 03-13-2001).]
Caine Posted March 13, 2001 Author Report Posted March 13, 2001 Thanks, that's a big help you guys. I appreciate it.(Looks like I have ome reading to do...)
Guest Steve Link Posted March 13, 2001 Report Posted March 13, 2001 Yeah thanks for the info.I'll interject one more question. I noticed that the RPG threads are set up very much like a tabletop RPG with the thread initiator acting somewhat like a GM. (Very cool I like this idea). As a community are we expected maintain a solitary main character, or is it permissble to jump into the shoes of crewman #36 and go to town? One of the reasons I did not jump into the "Into the Firestorm" thread was because I was not present for what had gone before, a lack of a good reason for inserting my police cutter, and because of a conflict with what I had established within the "New Orders" thread. Ironically enough Caine I started that thread with the idea of tying it in with your "Friendly Arrival" thread, not realising it was intended for "Into the Firestorm". At any rate, I get the feeling that having multiple storylines going on at the same time might be confusing and frowned upon as clutter, so I'll leave off of posting new threads too often. I started the "New Orders" thread more as a literary exercise than an RP oriented venue. Now that I understand a little better how this community works, I am willing to continue it in RP fashion, I just didn't leave whole lot of plot hooks for people to latch on to.later, Steve Link
Eclipse Posted March 13, 2001 Report Posted March 13, 2001 It is permisible to RP more than one character. I usually limit my self to my main character and attach subcharacters to him. Each officer and some of my marines have their own personalities, but I use them in a supporting role. Occasionally I'll act out one of them in a main role when Kyle Antilles isn't present.------------------ Commodore Kyle Antilles ICV-Eclipse, Destiny Starstation (Nevuela) Commanding Officer, Destiny Spectre Fleet"You can only love or hate something you truly understand"
Blades Posted March 13, 2001 Report Posted March 13, 2001 Things to bear in mind as an RP newbie :-A lot of the RP threads here crossover in one form or another. Many of the characters have been involved in multiple RP scenarios through the RP years. Although it is possible to simply jump in at any point, it's always a good idea to research previous threads to see what went on before, so somthing nasty from the past doesnt pop up and catch you by surprise. My own threads tend to lead into past events from time to time, such as meeting up with characters from past scenarios. As for the Into The Fire run of threads (Them being parts one, two and three to date) I would suggest you read Joyride (Which is based immediately before it) and the Preemptive Strike series which is dated approx 5 years previously.Theres lots out there, and It's all good reading. It might take an age and a half to plough through it, but it will help you better understand how we do things here. And in case your wondering, I tend to run these threads a little differently than the others ... which you will notice once you start to get into the Preemptive Strike scenario.------------------ Fleet Cmdr.
