Parias Posted March 25, 2000 Report Posted March 25, 2000 Chavik, not to sound offensive or rude or anything, but I am an Insurgent, and as thus are perfectly capable of taking responsibility for my own actions. I have no need to hide behind anyone, unless it's Rattler's ship when I'm being chased down like a dog But enough about the sig, we're getting off topic here.. hehe------------------ Cmdr. Guest Dick Trickle Posted March 25, 2000 Report Posted March 25, 2000 I am still not aware of how this question is insulting to anyone. If I offended anyone with it... oh well. Nothing was meant offensive by it, so if you are it's your own fault. I am new to this game, and I am just trying to get a feel for it, and where it is headed. Oh well, guess it's back to the Battlezone servers. You know that game really kicks ass. You ought to give it a try, either BZ1 or BZ2. They both are fabulous games. BZ2 is still a work in progress mind you. They just released it too early, but it is coming along great, and with some AI inhancements in the works it is about to really get on top. It doesn't have the depth that BC does, but if you just want raw carnage, then nothing can beat it. it takes brains and quick reflexes.I believe it is the perfect blend of the FPS and the RTS. I think they are calling it an Action Stratagy (AS I guess). I rode both of those genres in from their inceptions. It was Wolfenstein for the FPS, and Warcraft for the RTS. Actually, now that I think about it, I remember playing a game on the Sega Genesis called Herzog Zwe or some shit like that. That has to be the first RTS. that was a fun game. My yonger cousin and I used to play that game. It had no rescource gathering, but just credits gained over time. We use to just start up the game and go play legos or something untill the credits maxed out. Then we would come back and build up huge forces. It had all the groovy stuff that the newer RTS's have. It had tanks and boats and infrantry and aircraft and upgrades and all that good stuff. I wonder what company that was, and if they are still around. Blizzard and Westwood probably owe then some royaltie checks for that one.I got my love of the space genre from X-Wing though. Damn that was a kick ass game for its time. I played the shit out of that game. I bought every one of the series after that too. I haven't gotton through X-Wing Allaince yet though. Man do I want to get to the Death Star part. Anyone out there know any good cheat codes for it? Ah well i should probably just do it my self. I really never liked the idea of cheat codes anyway. I never used them for any of the games I played untill I got through them. That was back in the days when they used to put real stories in the games. They had to. Those cut scenes sure weren't enough to keep us interested. Gee i wonder how much it will let me type??? But if cut scenes is what you are talkng about then I think the first game to really have good ones was C&C.Now that was a fun game. With that rockin sound track, those cut scenes, and just all around good gameplay, there just wasn't much to beat it. Well... that is except for warcraft2. I think that game was better than C&C all around. It was strange. Even though the characters looked more like cartoons, they also ooked more realistic at the same time. I think that was really setting up for star craft (which I believe was the epitome of the 2D RTS). That game basically put the finishing touches on Warcraft. Took that genre as far as it could go. After that came all of the 3D RTS's which I would have to classify in a different genre than the 2D ones. Damn I'm running out of things to type. And when you get into the 3D RTS's all I have to ask is: If you have 3D environments, why then hell do you just not go all the way and give 1st person control as at least an option, and if you are going to have 1st person control then that takes you out of the RTS category and moves you right into the action strategy category. So I guess I wuld have to consider those games as unconpleted AS's. It's the close but no cigar sinario. All that brings us back to BattleZone. While it doesn't have the large numbers of units of many of the RTS's out there, it does offer those of us who love both of tose genres a perfect interface that combinds the 2. It is at least a giant leap in the right direction. And I will be damned if I am going to proof read all of this bull shit. Happy hunting to all of yaz. See you in hell.
