In my experieces, Yes it will be plenty, that is until the SC rolls out that "Box Buster" somewhere down the line that's goig to require something better than a Cray! By that time we'll all be doing VR Computer Gaming I would think. K6-II 500Mhz isn't the fastest or newest out there, but it's no slouch either! I've got a lot of respect for AMD and their products. JMHO though. Take it for what it's worth! wink.gif

Trust me Crus-in, it's enough. It has to be. If it wasn't, I'd be unhappy, because my fastest system (I have 2) is about 67 mhz slower than yours, and I'd have to buy a new one... kinda difficult since I'm not exactly cash-happy smile.gif And we all don't want Parias to be unhappy anyways, right? Right?

ok thanks for the input guys..I appreciate it! but check this out..pentium III 700...I know it doesnt make all that sense to buy it. because a 500 could run games coming down the line for the next few years...but ive found it at a good price and am getting more for my money.

also, I'll be going to canada soon for 6 weeks..i'll be in toronto, a city called mississagua? if anyone lives there, do you know any pc dealers there? dell, gateway or whoever?

Cruisin, I hate to say this about any company bravely forging ahead in the multi-billion dollar computer industry (yeah, right), but do yourself a favor and STAY THE HECK AWAY FROM GATEWAY!

I find their service lacking and their knowledge of their own products incomplete. I spoke to a Gateway tech over the phone one time and he had no idea as to what model computer I was refering to. And it was a computer that they had sold me. Went to one of their Country Stores and found that yet again, they have no idea as to what their products are, or rather, are not capable of.

Oh, and to get any real tech support from them I was forced to call their pay-per-issue line, as the first tech not being aware of what my problem was, instructed me to do.

Frankly, I find it a company that nickels and dimes it's customers to death.

Now that I think about it, this post was only going to read, "Stay away from Gateway." Perhaps I should conclude this rant before I get started again. [/RANT]

Kinda on the same terms of what mike said, I try to stay away from the big name manufacturers - Been down that road and burned enough. Now I just get the parts and build it up from scratch. At least then I know what in there and what can be upgraded. smile.gif And yes, if you can get the faster processor for a good price, go with it.

Just noticed this, but it would seem that all insurgents have replied to this topic.....hmmm. *scratchs head and shrugs*

Actually Eclipse, that applies to not only this topic but also one in tech support regarding a someone who wanted to use cheats but couldn't figure out which version he had. Obviously the Insurgency does much more work around here (with the exception of the SC, of course). biggrin.gif

Back on topic, there is one company that I do like and that's Dell (Cruisin's other choice). I've only experienced their support from a business perspective, however. I'm not sure if they're as kind to their home users.

As far as major companies go, here's what I recomend to my customers:

Buy Dell. For service after the sale, no one is better. Stay away from Compaq, HP, Packard Bell, and Gateway. If Dell is out of your range, Try Micron or I will build you one (but I don't provide any warranty outside the manufacturers warranty included with the parts that can be as short as 30 days).

Ron, Got to disagree with you on Dell. My company just bought me an 800mhz unit from them with a 19" monitor. I've had it 3 working days now and two of those have been on the phone with the Dell "Experts", banging my head on the desktop every time one of them tells me that it can't be their products fault, must be the problem of the software vendor who's products are loaded on it. DELL loaded the software! It's a pre-loaded unit with Win NT that they put on it. The CDRW won't work, and the video looks like something that you would have expected from a TRS80 (Anybody old enough to remember those?). Now you know why I disagree with your statement on Dell Support! wink.gif

BTW, we boxed the unit back up today and shipped it back to DELL and told them to keep it. We'd buy HP!

I guess their support comes down to how much you actually buy from them. I'm sure that applies to many more companies than just the one's listed here, as well.

Yep, Mike you are absolutely right on that one. Problem is that my company (Name With held for obvious reasons) has a huge contract with them right now (Dell) for all office Computer systems for the next 5 years. Very Lucrative for Dell I might add. Home office can buy more of them if they like. We will just use the loophole of over and above contract spending and buy one that we trust from now on. Heh, maybe we can get Ron to build them for us! Hey Ron, how quick could you deliver 25 systems? wink.gif

Dell was in bed with the last company I worked with also. I was in the IT group when they switched from buying clones from a local group over to the Dells. I hate proprietary anything when it comes to PC's but the Dells weren't too bad. We had pretty good up time with them as well.
