ISS seems to be shaping up

No not talking about our own internal ISS fleet but the International Space Station. The new robot arm works. I think Italy pitched in for another module. Tourist paying Russia 20 million for a tourist trip. Nasa is mad at that but I think it will be ok.

The friggin' RUSSIANS are going to pocket that cash, when they hardly did ANYTHING in regards to financing and constructing the station. What crap.

On a sort of related subject, have any of you seen that special that was on television a few weeks back on debunking the United States' moon landing? Now, don't get me wrong, I'm a firm believer that we did land on the moon, but that show did get the old mind thinking...

I would like to think that the Russians will recycle a fair portion of that money back into the space program. I think NASA is acting like a nervous mother hen brooding over a china shop. So long as the guy minds his manners I think everything will be ok.

Of course we landed on the moon. All those engineers sitting in the control room were doing nothing? All other easily disproven "evidence" aside what happened to the rocket? If it went up and didn't go to the moon where did it go? Had to have come down somewhere. Sadly I know some people who don't think we went. My subordinate's (sheesh I hate that word) wife also thinks the earth is flat because the bible talks about the four "corners" of the earth.

Anyway I hope all goes well with the thing. Maybe we will get to Mars in my liftime.

1. Those engineers coould have been fooled by false readings that come from elsewhere.

2. They could have stayed in orbit, or landed somewhere else.

I don't say I'm a believer of that theory. Neither that I'm not. But I've watched the show on TLC.

I have 2 big questions for all those people that don't think we landed on the moon:

1)If we didn't why wouldn't of the USSR called the bluff? It would've had no disadvantages to them.

2)Why is it you can see junk on the moon? Was that faked too?

I was being a tad sarcastic but:

1. Why try to fool that many people? And how? If we are still referring to the show it claimed we didn't have the tech to get there. But we had the tech to fool that many engineers?

2. Why just orbit and come back down? I feel that disproves #1 in the first place. If they went up those engineers had to be doing something. I'm sure everyone has seen pics of the splashdown. How long did they stay up BTW? Do you think they went up and stayed X amount of time in that tiny thing then came back down? Nah.

I didn't see the show but several people said they did have convincing arguments.

I can also convince you 1 = 0 with an algebraic formula that used to be popular on T-shirts back when I was in high school. They had a = b. Then they did a bunch of fancy calculations on each side of the equation and eventually come to the conclusion that a = 1 and b = 0 therefore 1 = 0. The only problem with it was that on one side of the equation they divided by a - b. According to the previous definition of a = b then a - b would be dividing by zero which is not allowed in solving equations. But it looks like a valid equation at just a quick glance. Even studying it for a while you oculd miss it. Took the teacher to point it out. We were 9th or 10th grade I think.

The point is is just because it's convincing doesn't mean its right.

But if it made you look some stuff up then it's a learning experience and that is a good thing.

There is no telescope on Earth capable of seeing that much details. We cannot see junk on the moon.

Again, I want to reiterate that I do believe we went to the moon.

Now..to try to answer some of the comments posted in the thread as based on that show.

Well, Mikel, according to the show, they said that the Russians knew that no human would be able to survive the radiation once they left Earth orbit let alone on the surface of the moon. They stated that it is no problem orbiting the Earth in regards to the radiation due to the Van Allen radiation belt.

Epsilon 5 answered that.

Three items of interest that they also mentioned were:

1. Of all the pictures of the LEMs sitting on the lunar surface, you never see an exhaust crater under them. Unfortunately, I don't have a counter-argument for that other than that the LEM didn't land straight down..it came in at an angle, thus not causing a engine exhaust crater.

2. On pictures of the footpads of the LEMs, you don't see dust on top of them. You'd think there'd be dust kicked up on the from the engine exhaust as it touched down. I don't have a counter-argument for that.

3. If you look at pictures, you'll notice that shadows go in different directions as if there was extra lighting on the "soundstage" that it was filmed on, which they claim is at Area 51. Incidently, my counter-argument for that is that of course there is more than one light source...you have the sun..and the light being cast of from the Earth.

There are several more points, but the best thing to do is just watch it next time it's on and make your own decision.

Back to the Space Station news.

Turns out our guests was a former rocket scientist/NASA engineer before he went into investment banking and became rich. So he's not the average rich scmuck wanting a joy ride. He knows whats going on and probably a lot of the protocols.

They got some three computers going and they are sharing one hard drive. They will be taking the broken parts back for repair.
