Any thoughts? I think it's ridiculous and hope it doesn't go through. I hope Microsoft gets laughed out of whatever avenue they try to follow.

What are they so afraid of, they may miss out on a few people who choose linux and not be assimilated?This is very funny though, but it sounds so typical of microsoft, I better watch my mouth, they are one of my larger customers!! lol

Linux beats the crap outta windows in quality. Heck, Linux is almost hacker-safe. Emmett.hendrick Posted May 4, 2001 Report Posted May 4, 2001 I had a short lived affair with Linux about this time last year it certainly is way above MS on stability and such but as 90% of my home pc time is Gaming I dumped Linux for Win2k and haven't looked back. MS have some flaws but they also make some damn good software aswell!
Soback Posted May 4, 2001 Report Posted May 4, 2001 They really do make some good stuff, I think it's just that the company got so big that comunications between some of it's parts are breaking down and they are trying to blame everyone else(ex. Linux) for whatever problems they might have, too bad SC isn't running Microsoft, he would whip that company right into shape. I wonder if Microsoft will ever brake down and dissapear or will it stay forever? There are even some languages that HAVE to be distributed in source form (including Perl, the thing this board is programed with). Plus, look at some of the better open source software out there - the Apache Web server comes to mind. It is licensed for FREE. Hell, look up a few CGI depositories.Microsoft is just pissed because open source allows other companies to save a good amount of money in that they do not have to do new compiles for each platform they support. It also allows further user customization (subject to license agreements) - and the user does NOT have to PAY a company like Microsoft to do those customizations.The real problem here isn't Microsoft, though - its that the liberals in this country ENCOURAGE frivolous lawsuits.

I was lost when I installed linux once.SC, anything about releasing a linux BCM ver?

In that report MS take a pop about Open Source, and then they propose "Shared Source", which is (Apparently) the same as Open Source, except any changes have to be approved by MS, and they're the only ones allowed to make money from it. Red Hat is really the worst of the distros and after ten minutes of using it, you'll be reaching for the Windows CD!
