Charles Lindsey Posted June 1, 2001 Report Posted June 1, 2001 Just a few observations I have made over the years.Right of way rules:01) If it's bigger than you, it has the right of way.02) If it's faster than you it has the right of way. 03) If it gets there first it has the right of way.04) If it's doing something idiotic, give it the right of way. Even if you're bigger, faster, and got there first.Speed rules; Mph are cumulative.01) If you just got your license deduct 5 mph.02) Two days after you get your license and are comfortable add 20 mph. 03) If you are over 60 deduct 5 mph.If male: a) If rule 03 applies and you wear a hat deduct 5 mph. If rules 03 applies and you drive a buick deduct 5 mph.If Female: c) If rule 03 applies and you can't see over the steering wheel deduct 10 mph.d) If rule 03 applies and your hair is a color not seen in nature deduct 5 mph.Special additions to rule 0306) If rule 03 applies and it is night deduct 5 mph.07) If rules 03 applies and it is raining deduct 5 mph.08) If it is Sunday deduct 10 mph.Murphy's rules09) If you need to pass you will be on a two lane road with a no passing zone. 10) You will never need to pass when on a four lane highway.11) If you are not in a hurry the person behind you is. 12) If you are in a hurry the person in front of you isn't.13) If you are in a hurry the person in front if you who is not will need to turn left.14) If you are in a hurry the person in front of you who needs to turn left will wait until there is absolutely no traffic for two miles in either direction. 15) The Cardinal Rule of Driving.a)While you are in a hurry, never, ever allow yourself to become trapped behind an old man wearing hat, driving a buick, and needing to make a left turn on a dark and rainy Sunday night.b)While you are in a hurry, never, ever allow yourself to become trapped behind an old lady who can't see over the steering wheel, whose hair is a color not seen in nature, and needs to make a left.
Soback Posted June 1, 2001 Report Posted June 1, 2001 If you are over 60 deduct your licence. I once saw an old man with 3 passengers driving on the opposite side of the road. An oncoming car actually went onto the curb to let him pass. He saw that, slowed down, looked and then continued as if nothing was wrong and it was the other car that was doing something weird. Then at the intersection, guess what, instead of stopping because the light was red, he pulled and stopped right in the middle, right under the light, but just far enough so that he could see it. Basically blocked the whole intersection. Then when the cars started honking he did some weird manuvers in the middle of it, then did a 180 and was thinking about which side to go back on, I was happy that he finaly chose the right one. When I took a look at the man's face, the expression was like what the hell is everyone doing? I think that if you are over 60 then it's a driving test for you every year, and if anything like that happens to me, I am giving up my licence voluntarily.
Tyrn Posted June 1, 2001 Report Posted June 1, 2001 Highway patrol pulls over a little old lady with three other little old ladies as passengers. Reason: She's doing 15 on a 65 mph freeway."Ma'am, you're going a bit slow.""I am? The sign says 15 on it," she said pointing to the freeway marker."No ma'am, that's the freeway marker for I-15." At this point he notices that the passengers are all gripping whatever they can with white knuckles and look terrified. "What's wrong with them?" he asked."WE JUST CAME FROM RT 161!!" one of them shouted.[ 06-01-2001: Message edited by: Tyrn ]
Maxamillian Posted June 3, 2001 Report Posted June 3, 2001 Some of us are getting close to sixty, Don't put people into labled groups, judge them on an individual basis. This is what keeps predudice alive. Next you will want to take away somebody's licence who has red hair. I know that there are some very bad drivers out there but they are not all older people, check out who is having most of the accidents out there... 'MAX'[ 06-03-2001: Message edited by: Maxamillian ]
Charles Lindsey Posted June 3, 2001 Author Report Posted June 3, 2001 The whole thing was a joke max.
Soback Posted June 3, 2001 Report Posted June 3, 2001 He probably was talking about me. The reason I am putting people over 60 into a group is because it's a fact that as you get older your reaction and thinking porocess slows down, there's no avoiding it, so it's a good idea to take a driving test once a year from that age on because you yourself might be thinking that your driving is perfect but the examiner will tell you if it's still ok or not. That guy I saw was thinking that he was doing nothing wrong, but he could have killed someone when driving on the OPPOSITE side of the road at 35 mph. So you gotta realize that NOT ALL of us will be bad drivers after 60 but at some point or another ALL OF US will have reaction problems and so on after 60. It's just what life is.
Maxamillian Posted June 4, 2001 Report Posted June 4, 2001 Yea Charles I know it was a joke, and there are jokes about Poles, blonds and I have even heard some about Blacks. It all starts out as jokes. I am not knocking the joke and the fact that I live it South Eastern Florida, I know about those old f**ts that swarm all over the roads. If you are under thirty you see someone who is sixty as old, at fifty-seven I see sixty as mellow. The old people might bug the hell out of you, but it is that "I'll never die" teen that will kill you. Don't take this wrong, I like a joke as well as the next guy, but keep it a joke... Soback Posted June 4, 2001 Report Posted June 4, 2001 "but it is that "I'll never die" teen that will kill you. " That you will see much much much more on the road, especially from friday to saturday night.
Guest dnoyeB! Posted June 4, 2001 Report Posted June 4, 2001 Experience always beats reaction time. Lets not harass our older folk just because they are older.
