Guest Posted June 9, 2001 Report Posted June 9, 2001 Ohhh...kaayy...."Welcome to Mifix. You are probally wondering why you are not seeing the Mifix.net homepage, correct? Well, This morning we were clearing out old users who never activated their accounts. By accedent, the script went terribly wrong. All information on the Mifix.net harddrive was lost. Because of this we have decieded to "restart" Mifix. Mifix.net will not be accepting signups again until everything is running smoothly. Please bare with us during these hard times, because I guarentee, when Mifix reopens, it will be the best. We are VERY sorry for any inconvienences this may cause anyone. If you have any further questions, you may contact [email protected]. Thanks for your understandingness (is that a word? hehe).Sincerely, The Mifix.net Staff--------------------------------------------------------------------------------When Mifix reopens, all of the following services will be avalible: CGI, SSI, ASP, PHP, MySQL, subdomains, unlim space & transfer, NO ADS. We may add more services so keep a look for the "New" Mifix. "Thats one hell of an "Oops"!

At last, I can break my silence.Up until this happened, a number of accounts were accessible WITHOUT a password.tyrn issfleet nightstarThese were three BC related sites made vulnerable at mifix by this problem. All one had to do was know the username (not that hard to find) and viola! one had full access.I informed mifix about this as soon as I discovered it and have checked every account I could on mifix. Wraithfleet was not affected. Other non-BC sites were also affected by this.Am I surprised that Ben and friends nuked the server? No, these are a handful of teenagers making a first run at hosting a server. They are bound to make mistakes as they are still learning the ropes. Their biggest mistake (besides not making regular backups...oops) is that they don't make this clear to their users and make themselves out to be Might Web Masters™. I would suggest www.digital-host.net but their situation seems to be just as flaky.
Menchise Posted June 10, 2001 Report Posted June 10, 2001 Live and learn. I just hope that while the staff are at it, they'll also fix the speed problem. Every visit I have made to Mifix has been slow.
Epsilon 5 Posted June 10, 2001 Report Posted June 10, 2001 The speed problem was because of their ISP, not them.

Emmett.hendrick Posted June 11, 2001 Report Posted June 11, 2001 Well considering who they are (and the fact that they can't afford a case) I doubt they will be upgrading the server.

Nor does it explain the 1000% increase I was seeing across my T-1 and the 1300% against an entirely seperate T-1 between the same nodes listed above when they were "functioning".I'll give them the benefit of the doubt at this point as they are a handfull of teenagers trying to make all this work (and apparently learning it all at the same time).[ 06-11-2001: Message edited by: Tyrn ]
Emmett.hendrick Posted June 12, 2001 Report Posted June 12, 2001 Update........The text has been updated the work 9according to them) is going well however they are going to limit the server to 1000 users till they upgrade so get in quick once they are back up.
Guest Shingen Posted June 26, 2001 Report Posted June 26, 2001 Man, what a bunch of freakin' lamers! I go through all the headache of getting my webpage online and ready to open, and they go a freakin DELETE EVERYTHING and say that they're NOT hosting public sites anymore! No word, no warning, no NOTHING!If that ain't a SERIOUS disregard for your users then I don't know what is!I'd hate to see what happened if these freakin' losers opened a PAY site!

Seriously, don't blame a bunch of teenagers for persuing a hobby. I mean, what did you expect? They had a server in a cardboard box! Most Web hosts have servers that are properly encased, in climate controlled environments with HARSH security.
Blades Posted June 26, 2001 Report Posted June 26, 2001 Hmm, nice box.Give it a couple of months guys, and I'll do you a deal on a full hosting package that wont drop you after a month, wont spontaniously fall down, will offer you unlimited POP accounts and a few other bells n whistles things.I wont be giving it away (Charity is for saints and millionairs) but it will be as close to cost as is humanly possible.I'll post here again when Im in a position to offer these services.
aramike Posted June 26, 2001 Report Posted June 26, 2001 Heh, what Blades said. Except I already offer it with local US pings. Send email.
