Many hoped that the decision to hold the 2008 Olympics in Beijing would improve human rights in China. But recent news is not encouraging.

2000 - Number of Internet cafes closed by the Chinese government.

6000 - Number of Internet cafes ordered to immediately "suspend operations"

6 - Number of days after Beijing was awarded the Olympics that the closures were announced.

I think that the decision to hold those Olympic games in Beijing should be reversed. Chinese government is screwing people every way they can and every time they can.

Yep, I would have much rather seen Toronto get the '08 Games. When I was up there with some relatives over summer, there were signs and posters about supporting the Olympic Vote for Toronto. I think they deserve it, too.

But it would be an extremely rare thing for them to reverse their decision.....

I personally couldn't believe that they were awarded the Olympics. A nation shouldn't be allowed any world event until there are *NO* political prisoners in their jails and they haven't KILLED anyone with faltering beliefs.
