Guest $iLk Posted October 6, 2001 Report Posted October 6, 2001 YaHoo!IM, MicrosoftIM, ICQ, AIM, or other; What do you use? Why did you choose it? What makes it special? Annoying "features"?I am trying to figure out what I should get back into using, I have used all of the above, just wondering what makes one better to you guys?P.S. I am only using MICROSOFT IM right now but am considering ICQ - what would I need to hack the ads out?
Parias Posted October 6, 2001 Report Posted October 6, 2001 ICQ. I haven't touched anything else, mainly because no other program has my contact list with over 400 people on it. Plus, 97% of the people on my list don't plan to touch any other IM programs in the near future
Charles Lindsey Posted October 6, 2001 Report Posted October 6, 2001 Aol has it's own internal Instant message but I use ICQ for others. No need to hack out the ads I think. Just find 99b beta I think it is. That's what I'm using and it's still great.
Epsilon 5 Posted October 6, 2001 Report Posted October 6, 2001 I have icq 2000b + ad-removing patch. Works perfectly!Nothing fancy, simple to use, VERY user friendly.$iLk, get it, it's an order Remember I'm your superior [ 10-06-2001: Message edited by: Epsilon 5 ]
Game_Ender Posted October 6, 2001 Report Posted October 6, 2001 I use ICQ and AIM. I use ICQ with my internet friends and AIM for most of my other friends. If i had a choice i wouldn't use AIM at all.
Guest $iLk Posted October 6, 2001 Report Posted October 6, 2001 I've got the ORIGINAL 1998-99 ICQ that has no flashy features just the contact list and whether they are on or offline, plus a neat chat utilitiy. I tried ICQ 2000a and 2000b. The newest is ICQ2001a I think.I'm considering it because of the "uh oh" sound that comes from getting a message... feels like part of my childhood hearing that... hehe. Yeah the newest ones I never really messed with. I actually had one of the lower numbers on ICQ, not these 10 digit ones... I wish I could find my old setup for the original.Well, guess I will decide. But I really don't want the ads cause they piss me off.
demolition Posted October 7, 2001 Report Posted October 7, 2001 I have never gotten an add from icq 2000b so that problems solved I have yahoo but i never use it then again i dont really use icq either
Eclipse Posted October 7, 2001 Report Posted October 7, 2001 I usually use ICQ only, but since that doesn't work here I'm now using Yahoo Messenger
Cmdr Nova Posted October 7, 2001 Report Posted October 7, 2001 I use ICQ and AIM. AIM because I'm an AOL member, and most of my family uses AIM, AOL, or Compuserve.
Epsilon 5 Posted October 7, 2001 Report Posted October 7, 2001 quote:Originally posted by $iLk: But I really don't want the ads cause they piss me off.I (still) have the patch to remove the ads from ICQ 2000b... and I still have the 2000b installer if you are searching for it.
Parias Posted October 7, 2001 Report Posted October 7, 2001 quote:AIM because I'm an AOL member )[ 10-07-2001: Message edited by: Parias ]
Guest $iLk Posted October 7, 2001 Report Posted October 7, 2001 Epsilon, I have all the setups... if you can link me to where the patch is I would appreciate it. Thanks
GREG MILLER Posted October 8, 2001 Report Posted October 8, 2001 ICQ & Yahoo IMICQ for all of my Community Contacts.Yahoo mostly for family. My wife uses AIM for all her AOL friends, since she still has her mail there, and I WON'T allow that piece of trash software on my machines. Me, I won't touch that with a ten foot pole!
LordDavid Posted October 8, 2001 Report Posted October 8, 2001 Has anyone tried out Trillian yet? http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/ It says that it is one chat program that supports ICQ, AIM, and the other chat programs in one package....UPDATE: I dloaded and am trying out Trillian. It compiles buddy list from ICQ and the other message programs. So far I like it. It has no adds like ICQ and it also takes up HALF the RAM to run as the latest version of ICQ does. Emmett.hendrick Posted October 8, 2001 Report Posted October 8, 2001 OK I have to be the odd one out at everything. I use MSN IM still have an account on ICQ on my home pc but can't use any chat progs at work so they don't get used much anymore.
Cmdr Jeffery Eu Posted October 8, 2001 Report Posted October 8, 2001 Stopped using ICQ about to years back when there was sudden influx of jackasses that deluge me with queries of whether I wanted access to p0rn sites. But ICQ is still the best around as far as I know.
Guest $iLk Posted October 8, 2001 Report Posted October 8, 2001 Hey LordDavid, does it support MSN?And does it make the cute little "uh-oh" sound?
Epsilon 5 Posted October 8, 2001 Report Posted October 8, 2001 quote:Originally posted by $iLk: Epsilon, I have all the setups... if you can link me to where the patch is I would appreciate it. ThanksICQ me (86811631) and I'll send it thru ICQ
