I post on this forum, then try to find the time acceleration button on my browser window to make time go by so someone will post a reply... For some reason I don't do it for BCM...

Maybe I've been playing too much X-Com.

You mean like calling an elevator a turbo shaft?

Or telling my son to delete the letter he just wrote with a pencil because there is a “g” and an “h” before the “t” in “night”?

Nope, never had that problem, you're just going mad.

My brain hurts!

You can never play too much X-COM.

*sigh* I haven't played X-COM in a while. Never finished it actually (couldn't find an Alien Commander).

Alien Commanders are in the command center of alien bases. You need (not need, but very difficult without) small launchers. I've beaten it as high as Genius, but couldn't get it on Superhuman.

I know where they're supposed to be, but when I raided an alien base, stunning every alien that wasn't an officer, I couldn't find any commanders, not even in the command centre.

I guess it could have been blown to bits accidently by one of those alien maniacs with Fusion Launchers.

Definately. Those things are explosive. Trust me, the commanders are there. You should find about three aliens in the command center. At least one, maybe two are commanders. The others are leaders (in case you still need them)

Have you tried X-Com Apocolypse? It's ungodly hard, even on the easiest setting. The alien ships you encounter are far more powerful than anything you could ever hope to get with your limited starting technology. The tech you can research without finding anything is only two techs each (bio and engineering), only two of which (improved labs of both types, which don't help you one bit without something else to research(if all you could spend money on was more money, what's the point?)) have any applications other than getting techs after them in the tech tree. What little tech I did find was almost to completely useless. Bear in mind, that the difficulty is shooting down the ships, not killing the aliens inside (lord knows how hard that is). All on the easiest setting, mind you.

Terror from the Deep was good, but the tech seemed too hard to get there, too. For example, you don't get aqua plasics (and hence plastic aqua armor) by just finding some. There's a lot of stuff you have to get first (I don't know, so don't ask), and when I did get it, it was completely by accident. All the sequels rely too heavily on capturing live aliens, in my opinion.

The only major qualm I had with the first one was the frequency of tactical missions. All too often, I found my self skipping missions I really should take, or doing it the fast, reckless way, just to get back to the geoscape. The sequels aren't any better, since TFTD involves many 2-parters (including all base assaults) and the final 3-parter.

XCOM fans -- awesome. Haven't played in awhile either, but I always go back. Got it for Playstation.

There is a bug though -- when your own bases get attacked, if you have too many items in your stores you may end up with guns without ammo or vice-versa. Irritating.

No, just the first game, UFO: Enemy Unknown (X-COM: UFO Defense in North America).

One of the most immersive and addictive games I've ever played.

Ah, yes, XCOM!

I believe it was like #9 on the alltime CGW HAll of Fame gaming list, out of the top 100.

Not bad for a game that was done back in 1994.

One of the few games that as time passes it justs get better and better.

There is a fifth X-COM game in development (assuming that it wasn't cancelled): X-COM Alliance. The tactical missions are 3D and I think you can take control of a trooper in first person.

It's a pity that the Gollops' other project was cancelled (Dreamland Chronicles: Freedom Ridge). From what I've read, it had a lot of promise.

I have X-COM: UFO Defense, and Terror From the Deep.. However I dont play them because the speed of my computer, I dont need time lapsing... Impossible to play... SPEED is ungodly. Unless anyone know a fix. I miss it.

Uh oh, SC had better check himself, I think he's pissing himself laughing again...

There's a DOS program called Mo'slo that (you guessed it) slows down a DOS program. You just type in a special command with the executable, and voila! The game is slower! It's shareware, but I don't know where it is. An internet search will yield results. The only downside is that it may take a few trial runs to get the slowdown amount right. Oh, and slowing down the game also makes load times longer.

Yeah, I use Mo'slo for some old DOS games too. Getting the right speed is a little tricky, but it's worth it, although there are some games that totally refuse to slow down without making them even more unplayable (Gunship is one example).

In the case of X-COM, I received a CD-ROM distribution. For some reason, the speed problem isn't there (much).

That does sound pretty cool. I hope the environments are as (hehe) destructable as the original XCOM. And I hope they don't fool with the formula too much.

The best part of the original is that you're essentially fighting a war under your own direction. You create and pick your missions, etc, et al. You manage everything. Great game.

Didn't expect to start a whole X-Com discussion. But who's complaining?

forget it. they screwed X-COM with X-COM 2 and everything after it. The first one is still a MUCH better game than its predecessors. Heck, I still get a kick of playing the whole game with human weapons..not lasers. Them Muton bastiges HATE my autocannon!

Ah yes the Xcom series I have em all (except XCOM interceptor that sucked) still go back to em, especially apocolypse(sp?) I completed UFO on most levels but terror from the deep and apoc still kick my ass.

As for MO-slow it works I used it for Privateer 2 the Darkening and it does work takes a couple of tries to get it working right though but now I just use program priorities in Win2k
