The plot thickens - My Marine Corps Separation Saga

Hello friends, I've been out of town the past week or so looking into the Sheriff's job in Mississippi, and handling everything that goes with that.

I turned in my letter on the 15th after me and the recruiting station commander and my recruiter got into an argument, in which I was completely rational and they were out of their damn minds with rage. Key quotes:

"You don't love your country"

"You have no patriotism"

"You have no balls"

"You aren't a man"

etc. I couldn't have expected them to be happy considering they don't get me to add to their quota, but they basically proved to me, that what's best for me doesn't matter as much as what's best for them.

I expected no less, though I would rather have parted ways amicably.

The next morning after having given them the letter I was scheduled to have a job interview at the sheriff's dept.

SOMEONE decided to call the sheriff's department, impersonate a police officer, and make up some story about me saying that I was wanted in Mobile County Alabama for bluelighting and pulling over people (all false).

Considering the only people who knew that I was having this interview at this particular department, that had access to the information he gave to the police were 3 or 4 members of my family, one friend, and the 2 Marine Recruiters.

The timing didn't seem like coincidence either.

So where I stand now:

I convinced the sheriff's dept to look into it, they contacted Mobile PD, Mobile SD, etc. and found out that the entire story was bogus. Therefore my chances of getting a job are still good.

One of the Marine recruiters did this, but unfortunately the only evidence would be phone records, etc that require court order to get.

If I can get the evidence to link it to that office, I'm considering what I could take lawful action against, because this fake report didn't cost me the job, and in fact the only crimes they've commited that I can take action against are slander. I don't think I can sue for them "attempting" to cause the loss of my job. Anyway they impersonated a police officer, but that's the District Attorney who has to see to that.

Any ideas on what I should do or what my options are?

I'm not really mad as I am surprised, but it's definitely the Recruiter or the Recruiting Commander who did this. I'm just wondering what I should do.

Go to the commander, This is bogus and no commander will put up with a recruiter using these kind of tactics.

I will tell you my little horror story with the Navy.

When I was a senior in highschool, I decided to take the ASFAB just to see how well I could do. The Navy recruiter was down the street, so I went to them and asked them if they would help me take the test. The next week, the navy recruiter picked me up at my house, in Kirkland, took me to the Seattle MEPS station and I took the physical and the ASFAB. Well, I practically aced the thing, so they took me into the navy office and asked me what I wanted to do. I told them to give me some literature and take me home and I would think on it. They got beligerant, told me that they had driven me over, and were not going to drive me back or let me out of thier office until I had signed on the dotted line.

I sat in thier office for over 30 minutes, then asked them if I could use the bathroom. While I was out there, I called my mom, told her what was going on. She called the commander of sand point Naval station, and then was on her way.

I went back into the office, sat down and waited, the recruiter then sat me down with his boss and began a practical interogation. My mother and the commander walked in as they were beginning to yell at me and threaten me. Well, guess what? They were both courtmarshalled, kicked out of the recruiter program, and I went back to civilian life.

Commanders do NOT put up with this, call the highest ranking commander you can find and report your suspicions. He WILL take care of it, that I guarantee. The recruiters are like drill sergeants, when they are not being watched they get a little out of control, but when they are being watched, they're little kittens.

Go tell his commander, and he WILL take care of the recruiter, and you might even get an apology out of the deal, because I did.

Get a statement from the Sheriff's Office also stating the facts. You have to prove our case.

My only thing is, I don't know which recruiter it was for a fact. I have my gut suspision which one, but I don't want to finger the wrong guy even though both were dicks to me.

I want to make sure I've got some proof, and I've been working on that. Thanks for your help guys, will post updates later.

Go to their CO, you pretty much pin pointed that it had to come from either one of those two recruiters. Let them explain to their CO their stories and request that the CO update you, and tell him that if he does not get to the bottom of it that you'll bring it to the next level. The last thing the CO would want is for this to show up in lets say your local newspaper. If the one that did not make the call is privy to that info I would expect him to spill his guts to save his ... You had a right to change your mind and I agree with your decision. I'm sure your quite pissed, I know I would have been, how dare they say the things they said ...Go get em

Ever heard of cover ups? If there's anything that I've learnt from X-files, it is not unknown for any government agencies to "silence" someone that might prove to be detrimental to their department.

The truth is out there.

I'm just kidding with you $ilk, the most these guys will get is a slap on the wrist though so don't bank on getting them fired. You can however get your revenge on them back once you become a Sherrif. But then again thats a bad idea according to Bob Marley.

I agree with Gallion and Jaguar. That was VERY unprofessional of them and totally uncalled for. It's idiots like THAT (notice I didn't call them Marines) that give the Corps a bad name.

Hint - Recruiters have their own phone numbers.

Get the sheriff phone records for the day in qeustion. Match the incoming phone call(s) to the assigned phone number of the recruiter.

That be your evidence.

Be warned, decide now whether to persue or not. Once started, do NOT quit. So if you have to think more than 3 seconds on whether to proceed or not, then do not begin.

Well SC, if I'd have known all the crap that would come up, I would've started a General "Watch me get screwed over by Big Brother" thread.

As it is, I started one thread saying that I had joined, one thread on a discussion of 2nd thoughts, one thread dedicated to my separation letter, and this current thread about the wonderful mess they've tried to throw at me.

Although all are related as far as the USMC, my thoughts in creating separate threads were because these are separate subjects, tied together only by my enlistment.

I figured also that more people would respond to a thread where they haven't already thrown in their 2 cents. I was needing advice about this new threat to my livelihood, and wanted the max number of people to throw in ideas, because I truly am at a loss.

What I'm considering doing, is just passively gathering evidence that I'm able to, make a phone call to MEPS Station Commander and let him know what's up, and fax him my info.

I really am sorry if you believe it's cluttering up the boards, I have moved on from the old threads and let them die. The only way I would start another thread, would be something like "Hitmen hired to kill me by recruiter" or something like that .
