Hello friends! I would like to know if anyone of you uses a personal firewall.

I've got the freeware version of Zone Alarm but a friend told me to buy Norton Internet Security 2002 which seems to be an impressive suite for security.

I would like to know your ideas about this issue.

I use the commercial version of Zonealarm, it covers just about everything in one package and doesn't suck a lot of resources to do it.

I have been really impressed with it's performance so far and it is simple to set up, very simple.

I have heard that Norton is pretty good, but if it's anything like Nortons other stuff, it's a resource hog.

From articles I've read, Zone Alarm is rated very high on the scale [steve Gibson from grc.com, the very outspoken techie on security issues rates it his choice].

I used it before we had our current set up where we now don't need ZA anymore, but I tell you that it was a great program and very easy to use and easy to configure.

I'd have to vouch for ZA pro if you are planning on buying a software firewall.

Thanks Jaguar! Ok... hey, i see that one of your hobbies is ham radio! My father has been considered one of the best, about 15 years ago (maybe even more). He has been interviewed by many international magazines. He is IT9TAI. But he does not use his equipment since many years. Also, my uncle, IT9ZGY, is the actual ham radio association president for Sicily.

Those are Ham radio call signs, mine is N7MER, been a ham for over 15 years.

That's cool, I talked to a number of IT's when I was based in Turkey. I'm kind of sad because I just packed up my ham shack and antenna's. My house is on the market and the realtor said that I should take them down. 10 meters is really getting going too. Talked to Australia just 2 weeks ago.

Personaly, I like Black Ice, now that they have pached up the problem with Windows XP. Its simple, effective, and Ive had no problems yet with it! Well other than the random crashes before the patch came out.

Black Ice was OK, but it STOPPED everything, even the things that I wanted. Zonealarm knows what I want to let through and stops everything else.

ICQ was a pain with black Ice.
