Supreme Cmdr Posted May 15, 2002 Report Posted May 15, 2002 ..because the folks chasing them are out-tooled? Here's what C/NET has to say
Guest Posted May 15, 2002 Report Posted May 15, 2002 Out tooled and Outclassed. The other problem with this is that a lot of these hackers are teenagers, in high school for god's sake. If kids can do this, just imagine what they will be capable of once they are out and have LOTS of free time on their hands. The adults hackers are good, but the generation coming up behind them are going to be even better. I shudder to think what they will be capable of!!
GREG MILLER Posted May 15, 2002 Report Posted May 15, 2002 This is why my wife and I use 1 credit card for online shopping only. This card does not have a balance on it, and when a statement comes in the mail, I diligently check it for expected purchases, and then pay the balance off in its entirety, whenever possible. Should this card ever get hacked, then the account will be closed. I once read an aritical about this very same thing. This one person had to call all 8 of his credit card companies, and write them letters as well. WTF would you use 8 cc's online???

Its the only way to go. Using debit cards (with access to your checking a/c) are the most dangerous cards to use online, since they can wipe out the entire contents of the a/c (unlike credit cards which have a limit) in one fell swoop.
Epsilon 5 Posted May 16, 2002 Report Posted May 16, 2002 aww I was thinking to post about it yesterday, but thought it wouldn't be a good subject
Charles Lindsey Posted May 16, 2002 Report Posted May 16, 2002 quote:because the folks chasing them are out-tooled? Now tell me something I don't know. It's hard to get money budgeted when what you have "works". I think the crime units have a little better shot at good equipment but not by much. I like Greg's idea. I generally use just one card but it's my major card. I may dust off that new one I got for an account I had forgotten about and use that one exclusively for the web. Thanks Greg.
