Althought I'm not a driver, I find this advertisement I received almost interesting. Even thought I read the "legal" section, I still doubt it could work (technically and legally) : the device jams the police IR speed detectors so you wont show up (will show 0)

I heard about this. It is illegal in a few states.

I bet it's just like all the other radar detectors and beeps by every shopping plaza, resturant, and office with an alarm. I haven't used one in a long time but I bet cell phones screw them up now too. Mine used to beep soo much I always shut it off.

Now I am older and wiser, and if pulled over for speeding. I cry hahaha

Save your money...Drive the legal speed limit.

Speed limits are not set to slow you down or inconvenience you. They are there for a reason. To protect you and the rest of the motoring public.

If you wish to drive fast, build yourself a race car and do it on a track.

Radar detectors and jammers are illegal in every state and Canada.

As a professional driver of Commercial Motor Vehicles, I see people speeding every day, and I see the results of their impatience. Nine times out of ten the result is the death of someone who is totally innocent.

I hope you never have to be witness to a minivan loaded with kids, spread all over the highway because some speeding lunatic cut them off short and caused their vehicle to roll into the median.

Here a new tv ads started from the government showing someone trying to speed up past a truck, and colliding with a car in the other way, and the driver dying. Pretty intense I must tell you (not bloody or gory). That might be one of the best ads I've seen in a while. If only I could find a video of it... I like the bottom line : An entire life lost, for a few lousy minutes. I'll continue searching for a video.

eesh... they used to show those films in drivers ed. i still think they need to keep showing them out of the classroom.

kids need to know the reprecussions of their actions if they decide to do something stupid. maybe itll stick with them into adult-hood.

These would only be useful on relatively empty roads since if you go more than 10mph or so faster then the rest, then a fatal crash is EXTREMELY likely... Especially if you drive on the left side of the road... learned that the hard way in NFS4. Of course, I was going 120+, but that's beside the point.

Still valid, though this is a bit extreme.

Besides, if a speed check's return is 0, they're still probably going to pull you over.

Now, that's some controversal topic. Germany, where I live, is the last country in europe w/o any speed limit on the superhighway (is that the correct word? Here we call such a road "Autobahn"). That means, I am able to drive as fast as 230 kph (about 140 mph) with my car under optimal circumstances, i.e. empty road, good sight.

OTOH, the speed recommendation on such roads is 130 kph (about 80 mph), and trucks are limited to 80 kph (about 50 mph). Even with sport brakes it is some real challenge, if a car starts to speed up past a truck right before you, to brake from, say, 160 kph (100 mph) down to 80 kph (50 mph). Now, if it's rainig, this becomes highly risky!

So, even while driving some kind of fast car, I would be the first to sign a public-opinion poll for a speed limit to 130 kph (80 mph) on our superhighways.

Btw., within cities, speed limit in Germany is 50 kph (about 30 mph), and outside, on highways, 100 kph (about 60 mph). Trucks are limited to 60 kph (37 mph) on highways. Everybody is driving some 10 to 20 kph (6 to 12 mph) too fast anyway.

So, think about it: while Germany may sound like some speed paradise to some of you, remember that driving (too) fast is very, very risky: you need about 10 m to stop from 50 kph, and 38 m to stop from 100 kph, but you need about 154 m to stop from 200 kph. Not funny at all if you drive into a traffic jam.

Well here the speed limit on highways are always 100kph, but most people drive up to 125kph, but truckers aren't limited more than cars, althought some would be happy if it was.

Elsewhere, some smaller highways are limited to 90, large boulevards are limited to 70, and the rest is mostly 50kph, where people actually go at 60kph . I have nothing to complain.
