As some may know, i got a crappy 8500LE recently, and I want to bring it back to get a ti4200 instead. But I don't know if 128mb memory would really make a difference, instead of 64mb, but the 64mb version would cost me MUCH less than the 128mb version. If you take a look at my pricelist (page 6, biligual), I could get a good abit siluro ti4200-64mb for 234$ (canadian, or ~150$ us, not including taxes), and the best choice for a 128meg card would be the Leadtek ti4200-128 at 287$CAN (or ~184$US) I have a relatively tight budget, but I'm worried about the performances on the long run. Oh and I'm not buying anywhere else, since the store in question is about a mile away, and I go in bike, and they have the lowest prices in the area. Wolferz Posted September 1, 2002 Report Posted September 1, 2002 You could always opt for the 64 Mb version and then add the other 64 yourself, if you're good with a soldering iron. I'm sure you could get the memory chips from Mushkin for a good deal less cash than what the card maker will charge you.
Supreme Cmdr Posted September 2, 2002 Report Posted September 2, 2002 128MB is always better. But there is no reason why you shouldn't get a 64MB card right now. By the time you are ready to change your card again, 128MB will be the standard. BCG definitely benefits from 128MB (and a card with a pixel and vertex shader engine) though 64MB is more than adequate. If you have a fast proc, by the time the card runs out of memory and starts swapping, you won't even notice it.

Now, if you have the money get the 4600, it's way better than the 4200 according to benchmarks and my own experiencebut that's no reason to say no to the 4200, it's another king in perfomanance. The great difference in performanance between both cards comes in resolutions like 1280x1024 and higher were if in the 4600 you had lets say 70 fps in the 4200 you'd have 3/4 of it, maybe a bit more. If you have the opportunity and the money get the 4600. BTW: In games running the quake 3 engine with max graphics in resolutions 1024x768 and 800x600 both cards operate nearly equal, as i said before the difference comes in resolutions higher than those [ 09-02-2002, 01:06 PM: Message edited by: Cmdr_ Laracuente ]

Guest Grayfox Posted September 2, 2002 Report Posted September 2, 2002 well i think the 300mhz gpu speed of the 4600 might have something to do with it as well,compared to the 250 mhz gpu of the 4200. i looked at both the 4200 and the 4600 and seen they had alot in common (except the gpu speed) so i just picked the one i could afford. thats what it all comes down to what YOU can afford for what YOU want

Guest Grayfox Posted September 3, 2002 Report Posted September 3, 2002 they do. i looked at the 4200 and the 4600. the only difference was the GPU speed on the 4200 was 250mhz and the speed on the 4600 was 300mhz. both had 128 ddr ram, the only major difference i seen was price. the 4200 was $170 USD and the 4600 was almost $100 more!!! didnt know GPU speed was worth that much of a price hike...

It comes with 6 games, 2 full and 4 demos, the full games are NOLF and Aquanox. It Runs at 250/250... I *Always* run it overclocked at 285/513.. It is 30 FPS Faster than my 8500 in games like Mohaa... and plays BCM like *really* fast.... You can use 2x FSAA most of the time 4x Aniso is not to big a hit... and 4x FSAA in RPG games easy. im telling you this because I am getting a Radeon 9700 is a few days and ill sell you my card for 150$ USD.... and give you all the software that came with it. I even still have the origional box in perfect condidtion. The origional price i payed was 250$ USD Let me know what you want, The card is less than 90 days old.
