OK now people.

The universe is BIG and our planet is small. It would be kinda stupid that in the entire universe, only Earth has life.

Most of those things about seeing flying saucers is probably not real.

Maybe aliens arent war like, or tree hugging. Maybe they look at the stars at night. Looking at the same stars we do, saying the same thing "are we alone?"

The universe is large. There IS other life only we didnot find it yet. And we might never find it. But we will never be alone.

If you are sitting in a closet. You are alone. You are only looking at your surroundings which is the walls. But you cant see the world outside. Where there are people. Lots of people. You are never alone. Being on Earth is like being in a closet. We cant see the outside world. But there are always other things there.

Well, AFAIK things in NASA's history that, while being great for exploration, were not militarily advantageous were scrapped. Most of our tech comes from military research.

Now this is just speculation, but when we make it easy to fly from system to system, we'll make it easier to blow up the world with a press of a few buttons a la Alas! Babylon Now, bigger weapons lead to bigger tempers and mistakes are made. For us to share space, we would have to make sure that only friendly nations had the same tech and we would have to watch them closely. I imagine that the same would apply to aliens, no?

Keep in mind, though, that I'm a 23 yr old ex-grunt that is very opinionated and am far from knowing everything. So, I could be wrong or misguided.

well .. if you read the BC history, you know it kinda makes sense. If ever we get to colonise another planet, the military will move in first, for the interest of the nation, then later the people will move in as the technology becomes more common. if Joe Blow can now hand out the greenbacks to float above all, taking pictures (like if there wasn't enough of them), then it's getting more common.

The military brings in technology, because no country can afford being behind. if you are ahead than other countries, then you are a winner, and everyone wants to win. Military strenght is the biggest competition of all. Because the military is the only true source of power (and domination)

Although the military tends to run space exploration, I think we still need a real civilian space agency (not that crap that NASA's been doing -- the military runs the show -- ask any crewmember of any shuttle mission.) Protection is one thing -- imperial control is another.
