Movies:

Harry Potter & The Chamber of Secrets: 8/10 . Fun "family" flick.

LOTR I , II: 11/10 . Oh yeah baby, excellence in itself. And to pull this much goodness from a geek book is just incredible.

Gladiator: 10/10 . Excellent plot and storyline, first movie in years I see that hollywood doesn't include cheap laugh crapola. A must see.

Children of Dune : 8/10 . Follows the book almost to the letter. Doesn't get a 10/10 for so-so actor quality (though Irulan, Paul and Idaho actors were top notch..the rest..ugh!).

Jurassic Park I,II,III : 10/10 . Stupid flicks, but there's something about T-Rex's chomping people up that just gets a thumbs up! Mwhahaha

6th Sense: 10/10 . WOOOT!!!! Must see.

Games:

Master of Orion III : 4/10 . A waste of money. If it wasn't for the multiplayer, it would be no different than the original Master of Orion. In fact, Master of Orion 1 is MORE enjoyable to play. Short and sweet, MOO3 just added a lot of overly complicated management components per planet and THEN made it so that its impossible for a human player to keep track of it all (you can have like 5 colonized planets per star)... so the AI basically manages it for you. Its even complicated to make the AI manage your colonies like you want it to. Nuts! Ground battles are nice though.

Shadowbane: 4/10 . As an ex-EQ and ex-DAOC player, Shadowbane is a terrible dissapointment. The servers used for the game are horrible (3086's on AOL dialup 9600bps its how it performs), combat in the game is practically fully automated (thankfully or the lag would actually kill you all the time), there are no class roles (healers heal.. but thats about it, every other class can do the other's job, no real need to group or benefit from a group), AI NPC's are fodder for players to feed their levels (leveling is very easy actually, its tedious, boring and you are literally a spectator).

In short, it sucks.

Dark Age of Camelot: 5/10 . Great game, challenging and fun. Its biggest drawbacks are HUGE imbalances between the classes, Mythic's constant display of stupidity dealing with said imbalance (aka, they make every possible effort for people to buy a 2nd account to use buffbots, which in itself is a huge detriment to the game)... and biggest issue of all, you wont enjoy the game in PVP unless you are level 50 (takes a LONG, LONG time to reach..about 8 months).. so be prepared to be the punching bag / carpetbaggingbeatch of everyone in PvP until you reach 50. And once you reach 50, you're stuck with a non-changing character in a world constantly changed by Mythic.. so all the work you put into building your character may be lost in 1 patch. For example, I had a level 37 rogue class specialized purely on poisons..in 1 patch the poisons were turned from being very potent to barely causing an itch. 3 months of playing a character wasted, and Mythic doesnt allow respecs.

In short, the biggest issue with the game is Mythic itself.

Second Life Beta: 2/10 . Biggest POS ever. Anyone here remember ACTIVE WORLDS? Its the same crap. Think THE SIMS go MMPOG. They get 2 points because their scenery is actually kinda nice..and no lag.

Battlecruiser Gold : N/A . Just WTF is wrong with these stupid stores? Still not in my area *sniff*

Play DAOC again, they DO allow respecs *I should know I play DAoC still, level 40 now.. arghs took close to a year!*

You really need to learn to play the game longer before posting false information

Shadowbane, well I might add im beginning to get bored of that game.. no one wants to group with a level 40 and when some people level they just leave the group in mid battle.

If you need BCMG lemme know I'll see about getting you a copy

They dont kalshion. And I know i've been playing that game far longer than you (have had several lev 35's and half a dozen lev 20's...heck I had an archer back when they were supermen with a serious attittude & a bad case of hemmorroids )

I stopped leveling them up because of mythics constant screwing with the classes.. the moment I hit the high 30's they'd change it and my char's spec would become useless. After alchemy came in, my one char I was determined to get to 50 and had a good chance of not getting screwed with, my NS, was nerfed to heck and no respec. Thats when I cancelled the account.

A few months after I heard about respec stones, subscribed to check them out.. surprise suprise, only lev 45+ can get them.. cancelled account.

As for asking a CSR or e-mailing Sanya/Mythic for a respec, the answer I got was the same every time: "Thank you for playing DAOC, now sit on your thumb and spin".

To give you an idea just how bad my chars were fukd by their changes with no chance to fix them: Poison spec'd NS went from 85 damage a tick with low chance of resisting/missing the crit strike that applied it to 25 damage a tick with a high chance of resist & missing the crit strike swing in 1 patch. The same story applies to my ranger, paladin, BM, scout, void eldy, ice wizzy, cabalist, etc.

It just pissess me off to see a good game be so constantly screwed up by a company that really has no clue what its doing

Heh, so DAOC screws chars too... Reminds me of when I played Diablo 2... I had an amazon who used a poison bow in 1.08. Along comes 1.09 which royally f***s poison. 500 damage over 30 seconds, to about 150 over 50 seconds. Most monsters had about 2000 HP at the levels I was playing at.

I wonder how many other MMORPGs nerf stuff from patch to patch...

Tac! play DAoC ok! Im able to respec my char at least 2 times =) and I did 2 times before so either your playing an out-of-date version (impossible) or you havn't been paying attention (im talking about realm respecing for your information,as in realm points)

But im also talking about another form of respecing where you can take points out of your skills and put them in another =) if you want me to get proof I'll get you proof, I've been playing this game sense it was release'd so I know what im talking about

kalshion, i resubscribed at the end of last month, roughly 25 days ago and saw no respecing avaliable 'xcept for the stones which I cannot get. It was 25 days ago that I e-mailed and talked to CSR's online.. and got that response. I'd love to know how you respeced both characters twice. I need full skill and realm point respecs, and be advised my characters, being so fuggin nerfed by mythic, can't kill a blue con critter (where before an orange was a tad challenging).

Tac, just a heads up... DAOC character skill respecs can be obtained for free and do actually exist in the game. As a character rises in levels, you get a free skill respec at level 20 and again at level 40. To use the respec simply go to your trainer and type "/respec skillname". If you want to do some rearranging, it would be wise to respec your highest skill so you have the most points to work with.

In addition to this, as you mentioned, there are now respec gems that can be obtained for certain monsters. Right now I know Dragons contain them and there may or may not be other uber creatures with respec stones.

Basically, your two free level respecs should get you by until you can raise your level high enough to use respec stones.

DAOC really is a sweet game and within the next month or two housing will be released. A few months after this another whole new expansion is scheduled for release.

very good race and ice..

heres mine.

literature:

Art of War (sun tzu)

The Book of the Five Rings (Musashi)

the Iliad (homer)

The Odyssey (homer)

The Count of Monte Cristo (Alexandre Dumas)

The Three Musketeers (Dumas)

Starship Troopers (Heinlein sp?)

The Cat that Could Walk Through Walls (Heinlein)

Moby Dick (Melville)

Film

id have to agree with race on the first 2. something about giant radioactive ants running around the califas desert was just cool... even if it was in black and white.

and james arness in the thing was just the bomb. even if he didnt have a speaking role, he just played the part of the thing to a tee.

as for my other choices... usually if it doesnt have a body count, im really not that interested, so ill just stick to my books... and whats up with ST5??? my god that was bad... 6 was definitely the best, along with 2 and the whole moby dick theme.

Posted

I included ST5 for its examination of the mind. It is not a true action movie and defiantly not the best ST film. The true value of the film is the theme of fear and limitation. Watch only from the observation lounge scene to where the Enterprise torpedoes the entity. If only the whole movie was that powerful.

Also,

Thanks GrayFox I had forgotten about the Greek works. The Odyssey and the Iliad are two of my favorites. Going back further, the Epic of Gilgamesh is also an interesting read.

epics of gilgamesh... whos the author? i know who gilgamesh is, sorta, but that book seems really interesting. also im looking for a book on the trials of heracles (hercules), but i have no idea who wrote about the trials, also i have no idea what the title of the book is. any help here would be appreciated (and a place i can find them would be helpful too)

since im now done reading "children of dune", ill have to add that book to my list... that was great. and since my local Barnes and Noble is out of the "god Emperor of Dune", i settled for Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein" to hold me off until GEoD comes in. so far its a pretty interesting read.

The epic of gilgamesh is one of the oldest if not the oldest pieces of literature still in existance today. We have most of it though there are some portions that are damaged and I don't think we know who wrote it.

Basically chronicles the quest of Gilgamesh for eternal life and ends with the serpent stealing the key from him thus gaining eternal life. This is usually explained by how the snake sheds his skin and is "reborn" for the next year.

It is a rather interesting read though it is a little depressing.

Last time I checked, The Epic of Gilgamesh is the oldest work of literature ever discovered. They uncovered it somewhere in the fertile crescent.

BTW,

In the Star Trek Episode "Darmok" Picard tells the first epic to an alien commander in an attempt to forge a cultural connection.

Ditto , on the Odyssey. I loved every bit of it and I'm sad no one has ever did it justice on film. Didnt you just love the way he dealt with the suitors?

yes i did. and in the book, there was a buttload of them... over 100 if i remember right. and he and his son took em down with the help of 2 servants.

odysseus was a bad mofo.

as for the movie... eh.. it was alright. they changed alot, but that was to make it more appealing to tv viewers i guess... no mention of the cannibals, no mention of poseidon burying that island under rock etc etc... theres a ton more i can go on about...

as for movies of that genre, my favorite of all time is jason and the argonauts. its an old movie, but it still rocks.
