El Che Posted April 30, 2004 Report Posted April 30, 2004 Just returned from 3 weeks in Myanmar(Burma). This is my wife's homeland. We took the children with us and had the BEST time. We went during the time of Thinjan which is the annual water festival. For five days, people stop working and come out on the streets to celebrate by drinking, singing, dancing, and most importantly in 95 degreeF heat, throw tons and tons of water at each other. During my trip, I saw albino elephants (kept under heavy security), I also visited many payas (pagodas) which are monuments to Buddha. The most dramatic of these was Kiay tee yeoh (not sure of the spelling) which is a giant golden boulder that seems to almost float at the edge of a mountain. Most importantly, I got to learn a great deal about my wife's culture and had the opportunity to meet the beautiful people of Myanmar. I will never forget this vacation and look forward to returning to the Golden Land of Burma. Let's hear about your greatest vacation.
