Guest cwheung
I really wish to have the new game comes with detailed training mission, namely, step by step instruction on to deploy a mining drone, flight navigation, tacops operation for a specific job to enable the new player to equip with the basic necessary skill to cope with the situation they shall encounter in the real mission stage. Further, I do not mind if the above should come in written form, preferably by download by paying visa.
Guest Zach Gaskins
Yes, that would make the game very well received - it would be received by a much larger audience. I'm not saying that the game's documentation is bad or incomplete, but I know of people who would LOVE this type of game and are willing to put forth the time to figure it all out, but are rather frustrated turned off by the initial learning curve it presents. Little by little I'm doing new things but sometimes I sigh and switch on XC mode and have at it for a while. There's no need to teach specifics, but if you can get someone to program their flight path in, to get them to send support craft on simple missions, launch probes, and do BC maintenance stuff (like allocate duties), it would ease the initial frustration of getting blown to pieces because you forgot to turn on essential systems or you couldn't figure out how to slow down before slamming head first into Galcom HQ.------------------ Zach Gaskins "That boy's head is like Sputnik! Guest cwheung
To be more precise with the above wishlist, what I mean is a in-game, on screen, real time, step by step instruction for all basic skills enough to keep the player survive for a while . And what I mean "in written" is actually a book of Hints and Tips for sale. Conquaring the whole Universal is the real fun.
Pandora
> in-game, on screen, real time, step by step instruction for all basic skills This CAN be a script, of course, but there are precious litte ways in the scripting language to react to a certain *key* pressed.BC3k assumes that you know how to get around and only judges events like a ship successful ly protected, a SS captured.... stuff like that.If there were a 'training' script then it would run automatically and simply assume that you do everything right. If not, then you're lost and will have to try again...Maybe the newbies can come up with a list of WHAT the script should do or say. Any tester would probably be a very bad choice in identifying the 'hard' stuff. Gallion
Training mission is Freeflight in current version. Since there will be no ACM in BC3020AD, Freeflight in single-player mode will be your "training mission(s)" for multi-player mode. Key for any successful commander is knowing his/her Battlecruiser and its capabilites and weaknesses. In multi-play, a green commander that enters a session not knowing what to do is asking for trouble. Especially if an Insurgent happens to be on the prowl ------------------ Cmdr Gallion GCV-Graf Spee, Corsair Wing Wraith Fleet[This message has been edited by Gallion (edited 02-10-99).]
Supreme Cmdr
Well, since I'm the only living soul on the planet who knows the game inside out, I don't have time to do tutorials. I started doing one and it turned out to be a 166 page manual. If you guys ask Pan nicely, maybe he will spend a week or so highlighting all the important aspects that would get newbies up and running. I can then use that shortlist as a guideline on who to proceed. If I do it without a plan, it will end up being another manual. Trust me, I know. Guest
I've considered doing a training ACM module. I think you could code it well enough to make it interactive. Certainly interactive enough to detect what actions the player is taking, and whether they are appropriate. However, it's one of those things that is low on my priority list. Sorry guys! Perhaps Someone else out there with more time could consider doing one themselves. ------------------ Commander DeSylva GCV First Light ISS01 -=- ISS Fleet Coordinator www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Arena/9206/iss/ Official BC3K Tester and Blind Man With Sleeves award winner "Serve - with honour." Guest
SC,Don't even bother, I've been at this game for close to 3 weeks and still haven't gotten the FULL hang of it. I need to read the manual again and that's just what the other newbies should do. The manual is more then enough, and then read the extra's that come with the patches and of course read all the posts on this board. If you don't get it then, you'll never get it!!!! Work on 3020 SC, don't worry about us newbies, if we're serious, we'll figure it out!!!
