Inflation Rates

Greetings.

[i did the obligatory search and didn't find anything on this topice, so here goes! Hope I don't get my knuckles rapped for this ...]

Something that I would like to see would be the inflation rates at the various SS be dynamic. Having the same proffit rates for trading every time kinda dims the enchantment just a little for me.

With dynamic inflation rates, there is an added element of risk to trading - will you actually be able to make a proffit? Do they need the items you happen to be carrying at your destination? Or did a trader ship just off-load a bunch of exactly whaty you are carrying?

With what I have heard about the GNN addition, a smart commander could pay attention to stations shanging hands or that sort of thing, and be able to make a small killing (in my dream world). For example, if Tulon just got captured, they might be in need of spare parts and the like. Just an example.

Well, that's my two cents.

Inflation rates could vary based on current events - kind of like in Privateer 2 where Supply and demand for different items occasionally changed and there would often be a special demand for certain items. These special demands could be determined from reading the news stories.

Dynamic inflation rates? Ugh, no. Since I imagine that BC3020 will run "real time" like BC3K did, this would be a major mistake from a realism point of view.

Consider that, unless you time compress for long stretches of time, that 1 hour of game play is roughly equal to 1 hour of time, meaning that you have to play for a very long time before even so much as 1 week elapses. Now as an economics student, I have to point out that inflation doesn't change that fast. It's measured over months and years, not days and weeks, at least not for any real significant changes. The only senario where you will see daily change is if your economy experinces hyperinflation, like Wiemar Germany did. Back then, inflation was so bad that workers got paid at lunch and at the end of the day, because their currency was devaluing so fast that they couldn't even wait to the end of the day to spend it. Hell, I've even heard a tale of someone buying a beer, getting on a train, and then debarking sometime later and selling the bottle for more than he paid for the beer. So if inflation rates were to change often enough for players to notice, it would pretty much mean that the galactic economy was going straight to hell.
