Hmmm, on the picture named "deck1a.jpg," it says that the FPS is 38. Do I dare ask what kind of system that was on? (hopefully my "new" p-400 "CELERON" will handle it just dandy... wink.gif )

Please, please, PLEASE put some effect on ships in hyperspace! One of my biggest gripes is wasted seconds spent shooting at ships who are hyperjumping! If I could SEE they were doing it, it would save so much time.

Perhaps some kind of field flickering around the ship? Like some kind of corona?

IMHO, I don't like the idea of doing an antimatter nacelle-lighting trick; too trekkish. Let's try and make our own universe.

Just my few cents.

PS: SC, do testers get to answer your question?

Ok I just had the ULTIMATE daydream.. and chances are if me and the SC are thinking on the same wavelength this will happen...

Ok for starters, lets say you need to shut down the reactor, for one reason or another (damage?). Imagine walking through your ship. Almost totally dark (except for battery powered emergency lights... will they be on Energizer or Duracell?). No gravity (unless I'm getting too far-fetched here, but logically, no power=no gravity, unless you managed to get your ship spinning...). Just, IMAGINE.

Scene 2: Ship systems are all critical. Just won a big fight, but your reactor is going critical and is gonna blow soon.

Imagine running to the shuttles in the 3d mode.. you can see personnel running everywhere, alarms sounding, the halls are red with the "spinning siren" effect. You get to the shuttle bay, and see shuttles 1 and 2 taking off, with a bunch of personnel pileing into 3. So you hop into 4, and go into the cockpit. From an external view you see a bunch of marines run in and sit down. Paul Resnig is last. Laughing like a manic you close the door in his face and lift off, leaving him standing there waving frantically.

Er, I guess I'm getting a bit out of league here, but I'm just a bit excited >) You've done it again SC..

Akira - LOL! *gulp* smile.gif

DeSylva - No!, 'cause you already know via my posting on the testing mailing list. smile.gif

DeSylva - Ships in hyperspace will be invisible during the transition.

LordDavid - that 800x600 shot was taken on Fred's machine. A K6-233, 64MB RAM and a 12MB Voodoo2 board.

Parias - Yeah, right

...and the answer is....

"...thats what happens when you let Insurgent intruders get to your bridge"

They nicked the furniture, wall fixtures and every computer system in sight. smile.gif Either that or GALCOM gave you an empty ship and you're waiting for the movers to bring the furniture and for IBM to supply the leased computer equipment. Eitherway, you're gonna be sitting on the floor for awhile.

hehe, anyway, Shawn is still laying out deck1 with place-holders but this screen shot of the commander walking around an empty bridge area was too funny to pass up.

Ok, so the ENTIRE ship is modeled in 3D. I was just going through the screen shots and looking at all the schemeatics for the BC. So, if the entire ship is modeled, you could literally spend hours just wandering around you ship and doing stuff. For instance, heres what a day would be like on my ship:

I walk out of the ship, decide I'm hungry, so I trot on over to the mess hall, where I eat some grub and pick up a chick (a marine of course, that means she's in shape), head over to the MedBay and clone her; you know, double your pleasure, double your fun. Then I trek over to the guest quarters, make fun of the resident person I am escorting, then high-tale it over to the engine room and take pot shots at the main reactor with my laser. At that instant, a group of Insurgents invades the ship, at which point my sharpened Quake skills come into effect. After eliminating the insurgents, I throw on a

space suit with gravity boots and stroll on the outside of my BC, enjoying the infinite beauty of space. Then my AI takes over and crashes me into the nearest moon because I'm too busy gawking at the stars.

Am I on the right track here on what I'm gonna be able to do? Or will the strike pack be mainly eye candy?

Sincerly Tired,

Rippen

Derek, I was referring to a previous post I had made commenting on the command viewer concept you had implemented. Sometimes the little things you pay attention too in a game are important. I mentioned that I thought the original bridge view foreground had the important element of giving the feel of command. The gamer could see the bridge crew (albeit 2D and static) which they were

commanding. I was concerned that that element of the game would be eliminated. I was hoping that the 3-D bridge view in BC3020 would be such that the gamer could command the ship, watch crew members jostled about by hits on the ship, etc. Anyway, the description of a 3D bridge with static 3D command crew whether you described it before or not goes a long way in my book to satisfying my stated concerns. Nice job. I'm looking forward to BC3020.

rippen In this context (I assume you've seen GNN today), I will refer to SP as the first person 3D module within BC:3020AD.

Anyway...

Nutripaks not modeled (only medkits are, for when you take injury) because I don't see what that would do in the SP level because consuming food, does not do anything to you (i.e, strength, dexterity etc).

You could just tell the Marine female to 'follow you' and she will (just like a ship). Thats the extent of it.

You can't clone anyone in the SP, only in the

BC3K kernel.

Dunno how you are going to make fun of your guest, but you could try shooting or waving your gun at him.

Taking pot-shots at your reactor will cause it to explode, dropping you out of the SP, back into the BC3K kernel, which then performs the usual you screwed up complimentary explosion followed by the usual COMMLINK message.

Connor, of SiN Redemption Bot fame, is doing the bot AI for all NPCs on the ship, so, you're gonna need those Quake skills because the bot AI is selected at random (no difficulty settings here)

You can't leave the ship via an airlock in the SP or you will be killed, SP will exit, drop you back in the BC3K kernel and...you, know the rest. In the BC3K kernel, if you send someone (or your alter-ego) to an airlock location (from Tactical), that person will emerge in space, just like a ship, because it is running in the same world space. You can then switch to your alter-ego and do what the hell you like, including taking pot shots at passing ships with a sniper rifle.

The SP costs too much money (the engine alone is $20K) for me to make is eyecandy. You should know better than that, since when did any feature of BC3K get in put in for eyecandy sakes?

BC:3030AD, due to the increased power of machines, will bring even more interaction, such as those missing in your text, i.e, doing in 3D, anything that you can already do in the BC3K kernel, such as cloning, eating, more orders for your crew etc. Right now the SP and BC3K engines are mutually exclusive and like the PTE/STE combo, complement each other but do not fully run in the same world-space (though the PTE/STE do, to a certain extent). In BC:3030AD, I'm shooting for a total virtual experience where the entire game is in full 3D *with* the outside world also processing and in real-time. This will allow you to jump outside and airlock and emerge in space. The only way to get back into your ship being you crawling back inside an airlock or perhaps, you could float over to window and make faces at your guests in their quarters.

joaquin OK, I understand now.

Ok, this MAY have been discussed a little before, but here's a new question I just came up with..

You stated that if we dive out an airlock, we would pretty much be dead.

What if we were in the atmosphere? Like, imagine that all you had was your "newbie inventory" stuff, and most of it had been wasted or destroyed already. So you didn't have anything for the marines to use other than themselves. So you go into the atmosphere, have your BC just fly around high up in AI mode, doing it's best to avoid the incoming missile fire. You then switch over to one of your marines, walk over to the airlock with 10 other ones, and just, JUMP OUT. It's like doing an air raid on a base. This would be possible, or something close to it, right?

I think this will be the last question I'll pester you with >)

You should get a cable modem instead of an ADSL line. I think cables are a little bit faster, and I also believe that they are a little bit cheaper too.

I've got so many models to sign off on, today, Jason sent his final rendition of the new L-Fighter. Wait'll you see this baby! Check out the screen shots page.

I also posted a new shot of Roger's mobile ICBM (showing its missile raised for launch) as well as the new ZX series rocket launchers. Man surface ops in BC:3020AD is going to rock. I plan on buying/building as many ICBMs as I can (I'm going to build a factory that produces them) and taking out everyone of my neighbors while protecting my based with an Area Defense Shield.

Cable modem would be great, but then TCI would be my ISP provider and E-mail address. But, alas, the new cable isn't here yet. ADSL costs the same, and it is almost as quick as cable modem, and much more reliable. Setting up a network in the house so that the 3 computers, yes 3, 1 for me, 1 for my daughter and 1 for the wife. We are a 21st century family. smile.gif lol Mine needs a major CPU upgrade so that I can play BC3020, using a pentium 133 now, good, but not good enough.

Sorry, off the topic here. You got me slobbering like that old dog from the above post SC. When will we be seeing the final results. 4th qtr 99 or 1st qtr 2000. Will I get it for Christmas or for my Birthday in February? lol I CAN"T WAIT!!! smile.gif
