Hey! Be careful with those screenshots. I really wanna live to experience a couple of weeks with this game biggrin.gif

Just a stupid question. Will earth and moon be separated in BCM too? I just thought that was kinda weird.

Actually, DustBuster, I think the reason for the seperation is the fact that they both have starstations in orbit. Can you imagine the drag on your system if a battle ensued and all of a sudden each station launched a whole ton of it's assets? Heck, a good attack on GALCOM HQ has been known to bring some systems to their knees! smile.gif

I think it was also done for multiplayer reasons.

Had nothing to do with multiplayer. I did that back in 1994 because machines weren't powerful enough to provide the processing power my system needed. So I separated the galaxy into manageable partitions and linked them with jump anomalies (note that a lot of space games that actually have different regions, since that time, have copied this design).

In my original design docs for BCM, I had a task to put all planets into their own system regions. So, eg, you could fly from Earth to Mars without a jump anomaly. But, because of multiplayer I decided not to do this because it would, again, cause a strain on the system. Which is why in my design docs for Nick, I told him that I was going to leave the universe partitioned and that we needed specific technology that only caused updates to be sent to players within proxity and/or regions of each other. So, a bunch of players are in Earth region, they won't get any packet info from those in Mars.

So, back in '94, I did this segmentation for one reason. And now in '00, I'm again leaving it as is for another. heh

Though its hard to tell from a static bitmap (too tired to do an AVI movie) I have uploaded two shots which show the MK3 Battlecruiser blowing up and having its components fly off with spin, separation etc.

heh, you should see how the gravity code affects ground objects. For eg, blowing up an AX25 unit, makes all its parts fly into the air and drop to the ground under gravity. Pretty cool too.

SC, do the AX25s act like ALARM's in their firing? Because with the real ALARM, you can fire it blind, and it will hang around in the sky until a radar lights up and then... BOOM!

That would be tres cool smile.gif

ALARM = Advanced Laser Acquired Radar Missiles

Nothing to do with what you're thinking. And if you don't know how my ALARM works because you weren't paying attention during briefing, search the site or read my dev diaries.
