  1. I am so sick and tired of everyone saying "There's overwhelming evidence" and yet fed that they don't need to provide this evidence. Everyone loves to say there is plenty of evidence, but then point to more theories to explain.
  2. quote:Originally posted by LostInSpace: Evolution is a Fact and a Theory. I agree with the statements in the link. What's your take on this? This page is full of Misinformation quote:by Laurence MoranIt is time for students of the evolutionary process, especially those who have been misquoted and used by the creationists, to state clearly that evolution is a fact, not theory, -Obviously, this guy has never picked up a dictionary. Let's see, what does it say. quote:From Dictionary.com Fact n 1: a piece of information about circumstances that exist or events that have occurred; "first you must collect all the facts of the case" 2: a statement or assertion of verified information about something that is the case or has happened; "he supported his argument with an impressive array of facts" 3: an event known to have happened or something known to have existed; "your fears have no basis in fact"; "how much of the story is fact and how much fiction is hard to tell" 4: a concept whose truth can be proved; "scientific hypotheses are not facts" If you can't prove how it happened, then it is Not a fact. quote:by Laurence Moran It is a fact that the earth with liquid water, is more than 3.6 billion years old.Again, here is a factual assumption extracted from the Radiometric Dating theory. To see some facts on this see http://www.trueorigin.org/dating.asp quote:by Laurence MoranIt is a fact that all living forms come from previous living forms. Therefore, all present forms of life arose from ancestral forms that were different. Birds arose from nonbirds and humans from nonhumans. No person who pretends to any understanding of the natural world can deny these facts any more than she or he can deny that the earth is round, rotates on its axis, and revolves around the sun. Again, stating that something is a fact doesn't make it a fact. You still need supporting evidence!
  3. quote:Originally posted by Eclipse: Please don't take this the wrong way folks, but you both need to show more than beaning the other over the head with words. There is a ton of "evidence" that I can point to, but the truth is that I'm not trying to convince him that I am right and he is wrong, the point that I'm trying to make is that both of us have our beliefs and that is that. Niether one of us can offer conclusive proof that either one of us is right, but Jag won't accept that, instead he resorts to name calling.
  4. quote:Originally posted by Jaguar: evolution is a very specific part of scienceJust because you keep saying it doesn't make it a Fact. Again, all I'm asking for is FACTS not conjecture, not Theory. In Science there are theory's and and there are facts. The fact is that science doesn't know if Evolution really happened, all that scientist can do is come up with theory's to explain, but when all is said and done, nothing is yet to be proven. The point I am making that is eluding you so I will try to make myself very clear. I believe that God made the Universe, the Planets and all living things. I don't believe that living things came from non-living things mostly because no one can prove that something like that has "EVER" happened. I also don't belive in evolution because if it has happened, I think we would see some sort of proof that it has happened. The fossil record shows very simple single celled life forms then all of a sudden very complex organisms with multiple organs, again there's a missing link to explain Evolution. That is my belief, I base it upon both the scientific facts that I know to be true and also I base it upon my belief in God. You believe in Evolution, again, not because of facts, because there are no facts to support evolution, but you believe it because you have faith in the people that have put together these theory's that they know what they are talking about and have put together a very good idea. That is fine, you have your beliefs and I have my beliefs. You think I'm stupid for having my beliefs and I think you are uninformed for having your beliefs. When all is said and done however, I don't know for a fact that I am right and you don't know for a fact that you are right. What irks me is that you act as if though you do know for a fact and you don't. There isn't one shred of evidence that anything has ever evolved from anything, just as there isn't a shred of evidence that the earth was created by God. We don't know, and I doubt that we will ever know. But from what I have seen, the evidence SEEMS to support Creation Science more than traditional science. Why, because even the simplest single celled plant, is more complicated than anything that we can imagine, they used to think these things were simple, until they invented Electron Microscopes and realized that they are virtual Miniature Factory's with such incredibly complex chemical reactions that they boggle the best and brightest of us. And for us to think that all this complexity somehow came to be by some cosmic accident, well I just think it's kind of silly. You may not believe this, but again you have no facts to prove otherwise, so let's just leave it at that.
  5. I just took over Pixan and MAN was that hard, a lot harder than in BCM/G. Had to use twice as much Iridium and 3X as many Radiation Control Units as what I used to use in BCM (I used to use 2, this time I had to use 6!) At any rate, I only got 50 Experience points? What's up with that?
  6. quote:Originally posted by Jaguar: Any scientist that mixes their scientific study with their religious beliefs is a crackpot and does not understand what science is. There is no room for FAITH in science, and anyone that claims that there is, does not understand science. But YOU are putting a lot of Faith in science. Carbon Dating is the only Scientifically proven method of dating that there is. Since nothing has ever been found that can be proven to be more than 8000 years old, Scientist came up with Radio Isotope Dating, which is COMPLETELY Thoretical and is subject to individual variances in results. Yet many scientist have put complete faith in this form of dating to "Prove" other theories on Evolution. So one theory is being used to prove another theory that is then used to prove another theory. This doesn't sound scientific to me, it sounds like a faith based initiative. As you said, science is science and religion or Faith is just that. So show me the REAL Proof, not proof that is based on other theories. It's like I said before Jag, I've studied Evolution in Detail, I used to believe in it, but when I realized that all of it was built like a house of cards, it just didn't make any sense to me anymore. I think that if you REALLY took a look on the supposed "Facts" that make up Evolution, you will see a pattern of misinformation, and more FAITH than science.
  7. quote:Originally posted by Jaguar: The Big bang is a specific theory, and a part of cosmology, NOT evolution, evolution is a very specific part of science, ( also a part of cosmology) and at the same time a very general science, considering that MOST, if not all of modern biology is based upon it.Actually Both Evolution AND the Big Bang are both part of the same "scientific" Theory of where our Universe, Our planet and all life came from. To try to separate them as somehow separate, well that just doesn't make sense. Where did the planets come from, specifically where did earth come from. You're the one that is trying to Ignore one part of the theory and grasp to the other. quote:Originally posted by Jaguar: To toss away evolution or ignore it because it goes against your religion is one of the most ridiculous things that I have seen religions do. Tell me ONE single part of evolution that is a proven FACT. Evolution is a THEORY, it does not conform to Scientific methods, so if you BELIEVE in evolution, with no proof, then that is the same as my belief in God creating the Universe and everything in it. So you have your religion (Evolution) and I have mine, (My belief in God) quote:Originally posted by Jaguar: Science is science, religion is religion. So true, but Science requires Proof, which Evolution doesn't have Again.. it's all theory quote:Originally posted by Jaguar: They are 2 different realms. One is based on evidence, and conjecture, the other is based on faith and wishes. So please tell me the Evidence, because all I've seen is faith and wishes on the part of the Evolutionist wanting to be right. quote:Originally posted by Jaguar: It is obvious Darkling, that I am frustrating you, so let's place some groundrules. Don't get a big head, And don't get personal, it's a discussion.
  8. quote:Originally posted by Jaguar: Now you are talking about the big bang, which has NOTHING to do with evolution.Oh I see, so we're going to discuss Evolution from the time that God made the Universe and not from the time that the Universe and the Planets made themselves.
  9. quote:Originally posted by Jaguar: Sorry, not at all scientific, it is the crackpots that are afraid of saying "we don't know".But evolution IS scientific? OK let's review. One day there was nothing then BANG Here's the Universe! Where did it come from? No where it formed itself!?! OK Very scientific. It's like the Magician pulling the Rabbit out of the hat, BUT WAIT! There is no Hat and there is no Magician, just poof! Very scientific indeed.
  10. quote:Originally posted by Jaguar: You don't know very much about Evolution, do you? Quoting Darwn is silly, Darwins theory has very little to do with the modern theory of evolution. And it takes NO faith at all to understand itActually I understand A LOT about evolution, I've studied it for years. As a matter of fact, in my younger days I used to believe in it. There are so many details that I could go into that it would take volumes for me to write but I'll just give you something very small. One of the things that science used to say about the 97% of DNA that we don't use is that it was "Junk DNA" left over from the evolutionary process. That DNA, they said is the remnants of when we were Monkeys, Fish, Ameoba, everything was there, if only we could unlock it. Well, the Genome mapping project shed a little light on that mystery. It turns out that the supposed "Junk" DNA was actually a form of "Corrective" DNA that kept the small percentage that actually defines us, from going bad, wrong or from changing. In other words, it's a negation to evolution. Now the differece between this tidbit of information is that it is TRUE science, in that it is a proven FACT. Unlike the debunked theory that came before it, which was just that. A Theory. The biggest problem with science these days is that people are more concered with theory's and dreams than they are in science. When evidence shows up to discredit the theory, it's just swept aside.
  11. quote:Originally posted by DREADA: mankind's all encompassing, vast wisdom and science will prevail and we'll soon learn everything about the universe there is to know What's funny is that with all the facts that we know about Evolution, it takes more "Faith" to believe in that than the faith that it takes to believe in God. quote:Darwin himself said: "When we descend to details, we can prove that no species has changed (i.e. we cannot prove that a single species has changed); nor can we prove that the supposed changes are beneficial, which is the groundwork of the theory."--Charles Robert Darwin
  12. quote:Originally posted by LostInSpace: Don't forget oil is a finite source and given a few more decades poof it's gone. Yeah, I forgot about that one.
  13. quote:Originally posted by Bandus: You probably mean Radine. Iridium is for cloaking. Radine is for the nuclear reactor... Of course you are correct sir.
  14. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: They were more fun back when they used to kidnap personnel. I don't remember why I disabled their ability to do thatYou've got to put that back in there.. that sounds like too much fun.
  15. quote:Originally posted by Cmdr. WeeGee: I give it 2 months more before the oil companies assasins go and kill the scientists... Who do you think funds these types of projects, it's usually the Oil companies. Let's face it, they're in the Energy Business and if there's money to be made in Energy, they will be the first in line to do so. It's like Depolymerization, the first Commercial project they did was funded jointly by the Oil Company's and that Billionair Investor, I think it was Buffet. The real problem with most Alternative Fuels is that they are too expensive. I don't know if you realize this, but back in the 50's the average cost of a gallon of gas was about half the average hour's pay. Today, it's 1/10th the average hour's pay, and that's with the government these days slapping on between 100% to 125% in additional taxes, (the real cost of gas without taxes is about 60 cents a gallon) plus cars these days burn about half the gas they used to, so in reality the average person spends 1/20th in Gas as they used to. The only one who has a lot to lose, if we go to alternatives is the government, since they have subsidy's on most of them. Let's see if I was in a business where: A. There is no price growth. B. It's heavily taxed and regulated. C. Pollutes everything. D. Has limits on profitablity (Yes, the excess profit laws for the Oil business is still on the books) I would be looking for an alternative too!
  16. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Whats a simulated CD-ROM? And how and by what is it installed. And why would anyone need one? I occasionally use a simoulated drive to run programs on my laptop, which doesn't come with a CD ROM drive (ultraslim) Most games run on it, but BCM & UC don't. At any rate, that's what it's usually used for.
  17. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Ignore him. Its rubbish. I guess he didn't read the part where I was saying that nVidia was faking it in the drivers. What's interesting is that My cousin has a Compaq Evo with the built in Intel Extreme Chipset. That chipset also "Fakes" it in the Drivers and he told me that UC runs on it just fine. Of course it's a 2+Ghz System, so I guess it has the extra horsepower to "Fake" it right. The only game he told me that won't work on it is SWG, since it actually checks for the Hardware itself.
  18. quote:Originally posted by Cougar_DK: I have never seen this before but after the RC6 its like my numeric key 2 is pressed all the time. The problem was not there in RC5. This means that the craft I control keep doing loops even though I touched the keyboard, I normaly control my craft by the mouse setting. I have 2 completely different computers and don't have that problem.. Clean your keyboard.
  19. quote:Originally posted by Shingen: You can delete this post if you want, as I don't know if it pertains directly to the RC6 build. There seems to be an ai tow issue going on. I've watched ai paramedics with tow orders next to disabled craft, motionless, with contrails firing, never actually capturing the ships. If I send my shuttle to capture a disabled or enemy ship, the shuttle will hyperjump normally, then sit there for extended periods. The shuttle will not capture the ai ship. The problem you have is when the craft exits Hyperjump, sometimes it's at an angle where it can't capture the ship, such as if the ship is directly above it. I guess Low AI Marines think in 2D Terms and don't think enough to say "Hey I need to point the ship UP to get to it. So it just sits there hovering below it. Usually what you need to do, is send the shuttle craft away from the area and then set it to go back and tow, this usually works for me. Though, sometimes, I'll just hop in the shuttle and do it myself. BTW, I seem to have the problem much less with Higher AI Marines.
  20. I once had some intruders come on board and they took all of my Iridium and put it in the shuttle. Nuclear Reactor shut down causing everything to go offline. Luckily I had another shuttle that was doing a cargo sweep at the time, pull me into Wraith Station where I bought some more, but afterwards when I looked at the shuttle, there was the rest of my Iridium!
  21. I tried upgrading my Engine before the Nuclear Reactor. Big MISTAKE!! Your ship will suck up your Radine so fast it will make your head spin!
  22. quote:Originally posted by kneecaps: Geforce II GTS which i bought in Nov 2000..3 years ago...and it has a vertex shader. That's interesting because I just replaced my old GforceII, because it didn't have a vertex shader.
  23. I just picked up a new Xtasy 9200SE Based on the Radeon 9200SE. OK so it doesn't do 2 Billion Pixels per second like the 9600XT, it "only" does 1 Billion, but hey, it's got 128Megs of RAM and was only 79 bucks! at CompUSA, so what the heck. Most important thing is IT ROCKS!! Star Wars Galaxies, the most resource hungry game that I have works great with this, and UC works great with everything on, so what the heck, I'll save the extra hundred dollars that you guys are paying until next year when the 9800XT is selling for $79.00 and I'll buy it then, and I'll still save 20 bucks!
  24. quote:Originally posted by JCMan: there was ALOT of features that was cut! What were the other features that were cut, that's the only one that I can remember
  25. quote:Originally posted by JCMan: A true game worth so much more than a megar $20! I hope things go better in the future for you SC so you can continue to make masterfull works of immortal art! I REALLY hope that SC creates an expansion for UC that has some of the things that were cut, like being able to beam our Marines on to their ships! that would be killer! I would pay $49.00 just for that ability alone!
