oh question, for a long time this has been bugging me. does setting a page file higher improve performance? i havent really noticed a difference other than it might cause things to slow down. for example, when i exit AA after a long stint, or even darkspace, it goes through this fairly long refresh time, i had my paging file set to 768. ive put it back to the recommended 384 now. that refresh time and HD access on exiting is due to low resources and the ram all sucked up correct? my question is, is there anything i can do or set that will reduce it? i might not have the best settings set to reduce it. since ive set the page file back 384 it seems to be faster on exiting...but ill try again. next thing, the sound option of 64 channels requires more processing power and memory? or just pc power? i plan on using this laptop another year so ill probably give it 512 ram or something...

your laptop sounds like an inspiron from last year. if not, anyway its similiar to mine...ati 9000 will run it fine. heck it runs americas army for me with all things ultra high 1024 res 30 frames so thats good enough.

ive been following sf3 from the time it began. i visit there site once a month. but i can tell you the people over there are farely weird...

haha, pretty funny. at least im still 21...i doubt computer games will be so big when IM 40. more like holo games. because by then geforce will run out of letters and numbers to use for there cards... the way they skip numbers. i asked that thing about the honour, before i knew about having to play on off server. i got to 11 yesterday played on an off server for a good bit. i want to get it up a bit, then back to unofficial. in fact since playing, i have come across no whiners that say defense is camping. thats what i meant when i said this game is pure tactics, you cant just rush and shoot and jump around like fps games tfc and stuff...you gotta have cover and shoot from cover, just as though you were in the field, not run out in the open, i usually run from diff vantage point to vantage point, i dont stick one place too long. also ive seen when d teams camp, and assault teams so good still roll over them. the off server players are much better than the ones i was playing against. i was getting 5 kills or so a round, but when i switched over i was lucky to get one. oh that m203 thing is crap, its like artillery, people shoot from one end of the map to the other, and have angles perfected for hitting certain places. nonsense ok home from work now...time to play.

hey, had the day off, got some more playing done. ok i confess i spent the better part of the day, other than when i went to the movies, playing Bridge Crossing. this is so much fun... if you have recently downloaded the newest AA..2.0 try this map. I like to defend. i cant remember the last time i played a multiplayer game as intense as this, in this map when your the last man left on your team, and the enemy assaulting has one or two, and you have to hold the bridge and prevent them crossing, it gets very hectic and very nerve wracking... quite a thrill. dont make fun of that, its just me getting into a really nice multiplayer game in a while

ok some updates. i figured it wasnt lag doing all of it. lag was triggering some of it, but the other part was ram. after playing the game about 6 hours straight, and fidling with settings alt tabbing during the game etc...my resources had reached a critical level. 256 might be enough for a desktop but its pushing it on my laptop, it needs a little more reading power, so i think i will inject a 512 stick in there. my only next problem is my 15 inch laptop screen, everything seems so small on 1024 resolution. i think ill get a usb keyboard or mouse so i can use my desktop monitor with my laptop and plug in the keyboard and mouse and shut down the lid. the laptop would become like a new desktop module as for my ping, is the part where you are viewing scores after a round accurate? in most servers my ping is reported to me as less than 200... some it is less than 300. but that doesnt say anything for packetloss that i might not know of. with my low ping no one tends to know im on modem. and like i said darkspace massive multiplayer is very playable with a modem. this is quite a fun game my nickname is cruis.in im wondering how honour increases.

ill play those training stuff when i have time tomorrow. i got it to work, seems i had to enable punk buster, by default its disabled, tell me if its required to play absolutely why disable it by default? i read it in a faq. few things i noticed, my frames are good when im in training missions with most options turned up ultra high and 1024 resolution, but when it comes to multiplayer it gets really choppy...or laggy, its lag choppy though not performance choppy.... thats just my modem though right? never had this problem with other large multiplayer games. games like darkspace were very playable with many ships on screen. (massive multiplayer) and these are just servers with limited players... i wonder if it could be my video drivers...but not likely since its smooth in single player. its quite fun though, favourite mission so far is bridge crossing. i got 30/40 with the rifle training. in real life i got 24/40, so im a qualified marksman that was in one day training/qualifying session. same day introduced to the m16, same day qualified. our shoot had a timed shoot, and you had to put 4 in each target...no more than 4 allowed, this was to stop you from putting all in the closest ones ....... but thats only police training, i dont walk with m16, so my day with it was enough.

yup i completed all four of them already, the basic training ones. i have an honour of 10, exp 5000. i updated gamespy, same thing. i click join, the music stutters as though its in, screen switches, more load time, then it switches back to the server screen with "loading map" across the screen, then loading map disappears, and it remains at the servers screen except all the servers are now gone , and i have to refresh again. this is annoying. do i have to complete any tours of duty first and update my jacket too?
-
gave you a headache as in you the game ran badly? ok im not sure if i did that last mission mount or whatever but i did the others, ill make sure when I try it now. also, i opened the actual gamespy client, and it says it needs a critical update, cant use it without it, could this also be the cause of aa exiting a connection once it seems to have connected? im asking, because the game has its own in game browser powered by gamespy, so would this automatically get updated if i update gamespy? this thing needs error msgs man..heh kind of groping in the dark......
-
ok i got it, i try connecting to any server, making sure that all honour requirements and what not are filled, the music stops, it looks like its loading, then i hear gunshots from players on the server, then it cuts back to the internet games screen, then the dialogue box "loading map" comes up, then it goes away and i remain at the internet games list, all servers all the time. then i have to refresh the servers again each time. i was wondering, is there some map pack i dont have? i have a clean install of 2.0
-
you're kind of a meanie aren't you ... anyway i just want to try it, does it have a single player mode at all?
-
i downloaded america's army v 1.9 on my 56k, 604 megs, only to find out a new version got released, tried to download the patch but all the download sites for it suck and the patch sucks too, its buggy...so i start from scratch now to download the v 2.0 650 mb file. ill be away the next 3 days or so while i leave on the computer, it actually takes 27 hours total, but i wont use the net at all during that time. i never tried it before and i want to. so no jokes.

i would have liked to answer your questions, but what would be the point, i couldnt give you a definite answer. all your questions seem to be for the developer. quote:Due to UC's name change, will that also effect [later down in the road] BC Online's name? how do you expect a forum member to know that? anyone who said to read the faq or whatever did more justice for you than deserved.

Current or upcoming games to look forward to...

im not a wwII game fan per se, but i think medal of honour was done really well. ive played through it twice. i thought the sounds were so realistic, the way the m1 clip fly out when its finished, seemed straight out the private ryan movie. call of duty demos are impressive, so i might get that, but the sound isnt as good as medal of honour, kind of strange when its from some of the same developers who did MOH. -
tell me about it, i think 3 months ago, after being here for 3 years almost 4 i had about 500 posts, now all of a sudden ive got double that. someone out there must be adding posts to my profile! are we gonna have a server?
-
we bc people seem to have a tendency to freak out.
-
you could probably take every base in the game, meaning that it would be possible because capturing space stations is, i know people here have made it there mission to try this throughout the known galaxy. however i doubt you'd get it done. bc has so much going on underneath, you'll find the fun in discovering.

quote:You are paraphrasing Pugwash's quote.gee and i thought no one would notice getting a little colder down here at nights now its near christmas, and not as hot days. i think that blowing up wraith fleet or one of those galcom fleets come multiplayer is gonna be fun. maybe we could all merge, and just have two fleets, a home fleet and a masquerading in galcom space fleet.
-
judge a fleet not by the quantity of their commanders, but by the quality. someone famous once said that.

im liking these flat crt monitors. the future is bright

i have a radeon9000 on my laptop. it runs everything fine for me. im not sure how people can play in 1600*1200 things on screen are too small to me squinting. but i run all games at 1024 and get no probs. i could use some more memory though. recently played the call of duty demo, its quite good, but i noticed they changed the gun sounds, not so authentic as allied assault sounds.
-
looking to upgrade my old desktop. or perhaps buy a new one eventually, however, a few questions. the sound card debate, does buying these advanced 48 channels 24 bit playback and all that jazz types of sound cards really make a difference that can be heard? like does it make a gun shot or other sounds more real over the speakers? or can all this be achieved just by having a good subwoofer and an ok onboard audio... let me know

ive seen an ati 9800 xt or pro cant remember, probably xt for 499 u.s why would anyone pay this for a graphics card? unless they have a lot of money to spare of course.

Cruis. In replied to Charles Lindsey's topic in Insurgent Fleets
ok nice. its november time for a new chat and what are you talking about with the video thing? applying to do what race? I get the feeling black and white people don't mix much where you are from. here it is natural. i should become cruis.dread
