Say hello to Oban, newest member of Wraith Fleet!

quote:Originally posted by Oban: You do have to be careful not to sour anyone on the game by appearing too elitist. Some people may take it the wrong way and leave or even not recommend the game to friends... that only hurts the SC's pocketbook and in turn the qualtiy of future BC products. It is exactly that balance, between maintaining fleet integrity and helping the cadets, that I hope this thread will help clarify.

I'm sure that at least some of you have heard about John "Abdul Hamid" Walker who joined the Taliban in their war effort. Supposedly there are two other US citizens (makes me sick to grace them with that) in the same situation but I haven't heard/seen anything on them. I have only one word for such: traitor.

Seems that the upcoming MP has thrown a unique spin to giving out helpful gameplay hints and strategies. The BC forums have always basically been all for one and one for all. If I have a good way of doing something I've always been willing to share. Now that MP is coming, I am more hesitant to simply share all my pet tricks. After all, I know that some of them will come in very handy against live opponents but only if my opponent doesn't already know the trick himself! What ethical, for lack of a better word, responsibility do veteran players have in regards to strategic/tactical questions? In short, does the community here think it's OK to withhold information? My view: Maybe, strategies/tactics developed by the various fleets/organizations aren't public knowledge anyway. Fleets/orgs should be responsible for training their new members and sharing such information between other fleets/orgs under the direction of their various leaders. Players wanting more in depth training would have to look to an organized group, their own devices or the forum search feature. The possible exception would be ACM/IA missions. I gained most of my training via the ACM and now the IA missions but I try to never give more than hints on those things anyway. Those are my thoughts, am I off base?

quote:Originally posted by Oban: Hey Gentlmen , I was fed my lunch last night by a firestorm and her fighter compliment, I was flying a sunflash. ( to see a rundowm of the battle its in the fun stuff section under experiences). I obviously need some help/advice. Can any one offer advice on how to deal with cloaking carriers with a heavy cruiser? Did I even stand a chance in the Sunflash? What heavy cruiser holds up best vs Carriers? Should you ever use missles on fighter or is it a waste of firepower? What missle would be best vs. Fighters? How often/little should EMD be used to maintain it's effectiveness? Any replies are greatly appreciated. Cheers This brings up a rather interesting thought. In BC3K it was basically one for all and all for one when it actually came to the game and strategy. With the upcoming introduction of MP, that changes a bit. Suddenly explaining tactics to an ensign becomes a bit more like publicly announcing where the key to the back door is hidden. As such, here are some general pointers: [*]Try your best to avoid skirmishes until you've made any available upgrades to at least your shields and preferably your armor, reactor and engine. [*]Fighters are extremely hard to hit unless your head to head and head to head often means you'll end up dead. [*]EMD is your friend as often as you need it.

Not especially "fun" but stocking repair items is always a nice thing to do...reminds me of the time I had just destroyed Gammula station in Gamma-2. They had managed to lob a couple of spiders through the shields and I had the engine idling while the SE's worked on our 52% hull armor or at least they were trying to work on it. JAC refused to let anyone near the area and seemed to be under the impression that paper mache worked well to patch Titanium V armor. I was mighty glad I had stocked up on spare parts or we might have been in real hot water that day!

quote:Originally posted by Pugwash: My advice would be to stay with your CC in Earthz for the first two missions trading between Galcom and Genesis while towing Dip1 to Majoris with a shuttle you'll have to give the shuttle a new jump to command each time it changes zones, then use the deliver order once in Majoris to "Dock" Dip1. There is no real need for you to escort it. I would label that a bad idea - the one about not running the actual escort. While that was fairly kosher in BC3K, I ended up with -4950 EP in BCM, after the EP were awarded for successful completion of the TOD, because I ignored those two words: Patrol Zone. Now if you aren't worried about the EP, then don't worry about the partrol zone.

quote:Originally posted by Barron Morris: Pardon if this has been coverd... Is there any way to set the game time or game start time in BCM. For example 2 ppl wanted to sync up there time for role playing or multiplayer? Quick answer, no. Long answer, no and in MP since the players would be starting out together anyway there is no need for such things. IF players can join an MP game in progress they would of course be bumped up to the current date time (note that is a big IF).

marines and pilots like to sky dive without parachutes!!!

Perhaps I should just break out my Holy Handgrenade of Antioch and lob it at you on the count of 3 Hey, I can't let Tac corner the market on that kind of stuff now can I? Just for the record and to keep on topic...I say keep things the way they are. How hard is it to use two waypoints? Why fix something that actually works? And yes I believe that using two way points is not just a work around. <rp> Sniveling cadets playing at commander. When I was a cadet survival training started on day one with a hands on course in sewing your arm back on! Where's my Zelon Sipping Soda! <rp> -
quote:Originally posted by Commander Elio Jason: the stormcarrier and the MK2. nothing can demenstarte supremacy as much as the stormcarrier. but i like a sleek yet powerful design and the MK2 wins there. The only thing that impresses me about stormcarriers are the fighters. Without the fighters, stormcarriers are just too slow to fend off attacks by any other craft, especially if you know where the sweet spot is on those beasts. As to an actual favorite, it all depends on what role I want to play but here's some idea: MKII or Megaron. Questar Jenstar - a beautiful ship if I do say so

quote:Originally posted by Riga: playing: Ter/Mil Asset: BCMK2 version: 1.0.02 RC3 In the logistic computer, the items on deck tree are displayed on two different pages. On both the first and the second page the following items appear: N/Reactor cooling system N/Reactor Engine S/Reactor I just repaired the engine and on both pages it was listed in grey (at least so it looks to me, I'm rather colorblind ), that's how I actually found out (I've got some screenies if they are required). reproducable on my system. Started a new game and it also showed. Do not know about other assets though. There isn't a page one and two, just one page that scrolls and the items you've listed just don't scroll off the screen.

quote:Originally posted by Kadil Ram: I've had this game since Wednsday, and so far, I like it a great deal, except for the fact that it has the strange tendancy to crash unexpectadly. Check the GENERAL ISSUES AND STABILITY section of the troubleshooting faq (look in the DOCS sections of your BCM program group - Where's Nova? Surely he knows a url for the thing and I don't have one handy). I was crashing straight to desktop, followed the suggestions there and no problem since. NOTE this is not technical support just a friendly suggestion...DO NOT SHOOT! Read this thread as it's fairly well mandatory information and welcome to BC. [ 12-01-2001: Message edited by: Tyrn ]

Pilot dead, but don't let my co-pilot die!
Tyrn replied to Simparadox's topic in Battlecruiser Series
quote:Originally posted by Simparadox: Cool. That's what I was planning to do next. Too bad I didn't get a chance... Sunanta is dead on, if you use your CC's tractor beam it does prompt you as to whether you'd like to attempt recovery. Just remember that you drop your shields the moment you engage the tractor beam! Best bet is to have the shuttle tow your disabled fighter to a quieter location (via wormhole, jump gate, etc) and then proceed with your recovery operation. -

quote:Originally posted by Simparadox: So how could I pick the nearly dead fighter up? Even ships with no live crew will do an RTB if you order it (that assumes, of course, that the fighter is capable of returning). Your shuttle should be able to tow your other support craft back to the CC but as I haven't had to do that I can't give you directions...yet. -
Suggest you start by reading this thread. You might try this one as well. [ 12-01-2001: Message edited by: Tyrn ]

quote:Originally posted by Badgerius: Wow. I've never seen that. I'd stopped posting marines in shuttles, because I've lost marines after intruders had launched with them. Perscan showed that the Marines lived, too. But that was all BC3k. Now, I've noticed that sometimes I can see the intruders locations in perscan, and sometimes I can just see the number of intruders. Is this based on intruder AI, or is an officer's AI that's to blame? Perscan may not be adjusting properly, try dragging the end of log bar down.

quote:Originally posted by Schmendrick: Not once during the entire fight were my shields ever breached. All the damage was done by the intruders. I now understand why Resnig is so despised by the people of this forum. It's as though my marines were trying to fight off the intruders with pocket knives. I'm turning in the POS Mk 3 and getting myself one of them super carriers with 40 marines. If you're going to play like that, you need to carry irridium and lots of it. The other thing is that that Resnig seems to be forgetting to have the marines prep for combat. If your combat kit level doesn't drop you might want to issue a prep for combat order to all your marines before engaging in such fun. Personally, I always have at least ten marines on search duty. Any intruders board and the other ten get their marching orders as well.

quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Stop misleading the newbie. Its bad enough that he's confused. The CALS does work. Correct, and here's how to land on a mountain side or where ever (been there and done it folks). Absolutely the most important step, clear any waypoints for you craft that are set in TACOPS. Having a waypoint set and initiating CALS is a good way to die. Engage VTOL mode Fire your retros until your craft is between 20 and 50 M (I believe altitude is in meters isn't it?) the lower the better. Set throttle/engine to zero Initiate CALS When the altimeter reads zero disengage the autopilot and you're done. [ 11-30-2001: Message edited by: Tyrn ]

quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: There was time (during the Beta) where intruders would go into FCs, close the hatch and refuse to come out. You just had to picture the marines standing there, guns drawn, threatening to blow a hole in the FC. Of course they won't do that, so the only option was to power up launch control, let the b*stards take off with the craft, then blow it up: Nearly as bad as when they started grabbing hostages, that was a PITA.

quote:Originally posted by Meldan: This is one of the minor gripes I have. The artifacts appendix says that the Celestial Orb reguires nothing, it just works. When you look at the crew appendix, it lists what is needed to get the Celestial Orb to work (RE having sufficent AI). I just think that the artifact section should list the AI needed for all the artifacts, not just some of them. I don't know about the Celestial Orb having a reduced effect when it is not analyzed. I have one that is not analyzed (RE AI is 22) and I can't tell any difference that it is making. I'm not saying there isn't one, just not one that I notice. Boy does that sound familiar, now just don't try to beat the SC about the ears with the library and why the vegetables you have for officers refuse to use it for learning anything new. Having trod that path once I can tell you that while it ended well, it just wasn't a pretty sight. The information given out by the SC in the manuals and appendices requires, note the word requires, that you exert a deal of effort to put the pieces together. In short, the docs are not walk throughs, they are actually documents that you need to research to find the answers you're after. You also need to know that the docs do not have all the answers, just like real world docs don't have all the ansers for real world situations. [ 11-28-2001: Message edited by: Tyrn ]

quote:Originally posted by Urza: That's not quite true. I cloned a pilot, and when he came back to the living, he still had his CMs and CKs. I don't know about his AI, since it never went up in the first place. CM (combat missions - if I recall correctly) and CK (combat kills) are not AI points. A pilot with hundreds of each that has the AI of an eggplant will behave like...an eggplant.
