I'm bailing out to Windows!((
Tyrn replied to Aleksey Kichigin's topic in Battlecruiser 3000AD (Legacy)
Update on the shuttles doing a deathdance in the debris fields. Very easy to duplicate, but there's a catch: Center BC in DF. Lauch all shuttles to collect different cargo pods. Target any distance (requiring HyperJump) object in the BC. Order shuttles to RTB. Initiate BC HyperJump. Watch shuttles vanish. Now the catch. The cause of this problem is not the DF collapsing as I had thought (newbie commander at the time). It's the fact that all four shuttles are jumping from very closely located start points (they're already converging on the BC so their start points are obiviously ever closer) and that they are all jumpin to the same target. You are almost guaranteed that two of them will jump right into each other if not all four. Bug or bad commanding? I want to say the former because it's easier to blame the developer but I'm more inclined to lay the burden of this one on myself. ------------------ Commander Tyrn Marcel GCV Falcon, Wraith HQ (Lyrius) Wing Leader - Wraith Fleet/S.O.G. So, ACM may well be a learning experience And a painful one at that. Right now Jo can't find her way back to the research lab from medibay (it's just down the hall dear) and two of those #$%@@! pilots refuse to exit their interceptor. Probably has to do with all systems being at 100% and yet tacops shows the Falcon at 96% integrity. I wonder if it's related to the problems I've had with JAC earlier? Have to experiment with that. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: One of the things that I have been planning on doing, but which I have not done yet, is the ability to allow you to play any scenario, with the same profile. So, you could play Roam (was FF in BC3K) until your crew gains enough experience and then go play ACM. I haven't done it yet because it requires some dangerous architectural changes. I may look into it toward the end of the development cycle, sometime in the Dec/Jan timeframe. Think radioactive and not explosive. Had to treat a huge number of crew members for radiation when Jo - in a flash of brilliance - realized that we had dangerously high concentrations of certain minerals on board. Thinking along those lines, if the amount were too too high then they might reach critical mass and light up your BC like a firecracker (speculation on that last bit of course). ------------------ Commander Tyrn Marcel GCV Falcon, Wraith HQ (Lyrius) Wing Leader - Wraith Fleet/S.O.G. quote:Originally posted by DREADA: Tyrn, where about on the fleet's site will you be placing all the wing links? That one has me concerned. Tac has them linking back to the FleetOps area but there is no link from FleetOps to the Wing page. As FleetOps is actually a flash I can't just edit the page. I'm still waiting for a reshipment on my Macromedia software "What? You mean your PC doesn't run Mac software?" Even then I'm not sure if I can fix the problem as I only have access to the .swf (compiled flash?) files and not the .fla (source) files. I'll probably end up recreating the FleetOps area as an image map so I can link the Wings from there as Tac intended. More on that when I have another free brain cell. ------------------ Commander Tyrn Marcel GCV Falcon, Wraith HQ (Lyrius) Wing Leader - Wraith Fleet/S.O.G. Fast, Furious... FIRST!" sigh...Cadets As soon as you know you have an intruder aboard, turn off launch control until the situation is secure. No power to launch control = no possibility of ships being stolen. BTW, I can guarantee that you lost more than a shuttle and your marines but you also lost a goodly amount of cargo. Intruders always load cargo onto a shuttle when they board it. ------------------ Commander Tyrn Marcel GCV Falcon, Wraith HQ (Lyrius) Wing Leader - Wraith Fleet/S.O.G. Fast, Furious... FIRST!" That reminds me of another thing I like to not do: While cargo sweeping in a DF, I park my BC in the center and let the four shuttles fight over the cargo pods and any intruding trade/com ships. Occasionally I forget to recall the shuttles before I jump to the resident starstation to dock. I always enjoy hearing "Shuttle One has been destroyed, Shuttle Two has been destroyed, Shuttle Three has been destroyed, Shuttle Four has been destroyed," when I do that. Presumably they were slammed into A) the asteroids, the mines, C) each other as the debris field objects "collapsed". ------------------ Commander Tyrn Marcel GCV Falcon, Wraith HQ (Lyrius) Wing Leader - Wraith Fleet/S.O.G. Thanks for the effort Hidama regardless of the outcome. Right now the total size for the fleet sight is ~2.2MB and the SOG site is 136KB but expected to expand to about 1.5MB. Keep your eyes open people. I'm hoping to use www.redrival.com but have to wait for them to open registration again. They do not use banners and have a good reputation among their current user base. Even with that in mind, the more options we have the better ------------------ Commander Tyrn Marcel GCV Falcon, Wraith HQ (Lyrius) Wing Leader - Wraith Fleet/S.O.G. Fast, Furious... FIRST!" I've had the same debris field problems and I've found that it almost always involved a similar situation to what you've described: SCX in DF with second SC headed to distant lands and bang I'm dead. I have also had this happen, on rare occasion, without being in a DF. I guess, and it is only a guess, that the sudden jump in objects (mines, asteroids and cargo pods) plus the activation of multiple areas due to the second shuttle gives BC and/or my PC a belly ache. The rare occasions are usually SC on planet surface + heavy firefight in orbit + SC headed again to distant lands. My advice: Don't do that. BTW, these and a couple of other little "quirks" are on my personal "let's see if this breaks it" list for BCM. ------------------ Commander Tyrn Marcel GCV Falcon, Wraith HQ (Lyrius) Wing Leader - Wraith Fleet/S.O.G. I have links for SOG (go figure ), Corsair and Fighter Command. The last mission of TOD3 will also bring your machine to it's knees. The trick is to start killing off fighters (and I do mean killing, don't leave any SOS stragglers) as quickly as possible. You can quickly bring the number of NPC's down to the point that the AI processing is not quite so heavy. ------------------ Commander Tyrn Marcel GCV Falcon, Wraith HQ (Lyrius) S.O.G. I would also suggest actually deleting the directory where BC was installed (usually c:BC3000AD) and also make sure that the Bc3k.ini file is deleted from your windows directory. Uninstall should clean-up for you but since you're already having odd trouble you should take the extra precautions. ------------------ Commander Tyrn Marcel GCV Falcon, Wraith HQ (Lyrius) S.O.G. My real beef with WinME is that it is not an essential upgrade in that it doesn't provide any substantial fixes to Win98SE. If you're getting a new machine, get WinME. If you're just wanting a stable machine don't spend the $49 to upgrade unless your machine isn't stable and then realize that the upgrade probably won't be a silver bullet. ------------------ Commander Tyrn Marcel GCV Falcon, Wraith HQ (Lyrius) S.O.G.
