[rp] Cmdr. Warsong, we are of one mind. I am amazed at the similarities you and I share in our views toward this conflict. Both of us see the petty and misguided strugle between these two organizations, both looking for the common good, both seeing the same side of a coin, but reading it from different angles. I feel very hopeful for this galaxy, for if more understand what you and I both do, the human race will be marked in the histroy books as the most civilized civilization to ever emerge from the slimes of primordial ooze. quote: Commander Liev, you and I both know full well that your words came with no hidden agendas. Give it up. Uh? Oh, I understand. You belive that what a person says and does is always completely obvious to you, and further explanations are only cover-ups for a slip of the tounge or a mistake in speech. I'll remember that next time I find myself up against Spectre Sation. "Feit tactics will always prevail against Cmdr. Aramike, because he will take everything at face value". Thanks for the intell! [rp] I'm mean, aren't I? ------------------ Commander David "Whisper" Liev *Fighter Commander Sationed, Wraith HQ "The underestimated weapon will deal overestimated havoc." You see? YOU SEE!? Kill 'em with paper cuts, that's the way to go! ------------------ Commander David "Whisper" Liev *Fighter Commander Sationed, Wraith HQ "The underestimated weapon will deal overestimated havoc." ICQ # 78084562 =Wraith Fleet=

Very nice! Clean and simple, yet rather classy! Seems you picked a tight squeeze to put our offices, so it looks like straight up from here!

I've always had high opinions of those who fight in unconvential ways. If I had the option to fly with a by-the-booker or a rouge, I'd chose the rouge. They don't let rules interfere with what's best. And now for Whisper's traditional evangalism: While still young, Cmdr. Steele, Wraith Fighter Command has a place for you. There will be a squadron dedicated for those who live outside regs, and who do things there way. And if combat is not your cup 'o tea, there is great honor to be had in piloting logistics craft. Quite a list of specailties! Perhaps it would be easier to list what you don't do! Glad to see you aboard(pun), and happy to see we'll have someone dragging our smoking hulls back to HQ when we get to brave. ------------------ Commander David "Whisper" Liev *Fighter Commander Sationed, Wraith HQ "The underestimated weapon will deal overestimated havoc." Should this be moved to the "RP" Forum? Or let it stay as a case study for all new commanders?

I'm getting directly attacked! Now I feel part of the family. [rp] Fellow Galcommers, I think we can agree on one thing that officers of the Insurrgency can do very well: twist words. But it's so easy (and so fun!), who can blame them? They can twist them all they want, and we're here to twist 'em back! quote:From where I'm standing, the ONLY reason you joined those Fleets were: 1. You just took what was handed out to you. 2. You didn't pay attention to the history in the manual. 3. You are accustomed to being put on pedestals held up by the good people still trapped in the chains of the UFN. 4. You lack the moral fibre and character to step up and speak out for those who are unable to speak for themselves. 5. In other words, You just weren't GOOD enough to go that final step and actually become an Insurgent. Pure and simple, you are a follower, not a leader. Re-twisting: 1. I sought a postion with Galcom. It was not offered, it was not handed out to me. 2. I paid very good attention to my history lessons. But, curiously, in the history section given to us, surprising little is mentioned about the Insurrgency. What is written seems a little vague on just why the Insurrgency is Insurrging. Yes, yes, peace, freedom, yadda yadda yadda. Very broad. Like Anarchists, members of the Insurrgency just want to "bring down the establishment". And then what? And that's a serious question. Can any Insurrgent tell us, plainly and non-evasivly, what they don't like about how Galcom runs things and what they will do once (or if) they have taken Earth? 4. I speak for myself, for I presume not what others think. But more importantly, it is not my job to speak for my comrades. That's thier job. All I will do is encourge them to speak for themselves, not have someone else speak for them. 5. I am running a completely new Fleet section (Fighter Command) and the descions I make today might very well effect all other Fleets Fighter Commands in the future. I am a leader. But why didn't I become an Insurrgent? I mentioned that before. The Insurrgency, while its revolutionary goals are noble, does not appear to understand WHY it is fighting, as well as what it is going to do when they win. Galcom has very clear-cut goals, most of which I agree with. And, for the most part, it is doing a very good job running itself. Insurrgent Aramike has inquired how I may belive the Insurrgents can succeed in overtaking Earth, and still remain courageus, honorable, and full of duty. I think it is pretty darn courages speaking my contrary and possibly mutinous view. Plea for truce? No, enthusiastic encourgement, for I hold no love of Earth, nor it's government. Honor? There is no honor in bending your views to appease the powers-that-be. Duty? Sir, you heard nothing about what I would do should such an event occur (Insurency attacking Earth). If it became my responsibility to defend any Galcom asset, including Earth, I would do so to the best of my abillity, for it is my duty to defend Galcom, regardless. Be warned, twisters of words, for all I say and believe is carefully thought out and not contradictory. You may not be aware of my methods, but I am. [rp] Ohh, I LOVE doing this! Playing with words is such a joy! And I'm goning to be carful now, you sly foxes, 'cause your gonna use any advantage you get, including taking sentances out of contex. Nothing wrong with that, I'll just try to avoid giving you bloodsuckers any opportunities! [rp] One more thing, Insurrgents. There is a very large difference between you and I, for all you care about is Earth, while I care for all except Earth. [rp] I've always thought it odd that the Insurrgents feel the need to brag about how sterling and pure they are, as opposed to the evil, venomus, baby-eating Galcommies. Why is this? Perhaps so they may maintain a physcological advantage, as it's the only advantage they have? Or is it perhaps because their ranks contain only those who betray an organization they have sworn to protect, and doing so requires much brainwashing? Also notice they spend more time deriding the enemy then talking about their own superiority? Hmm. And so to avoid being hippocratic, I'm going to reveal the joy of being a card-carrying Galcom commander! Resources: about 3/4 of the Terra Quadrants systems are members of Galcom or friendly with them, so there's always someplace to stop for repairs or refuel. Options: Galcom has enough memebers and Fleets that they can specialize. Join the Fleet that concetrates on your strengths, so you can be sure you are the most useful to your government. Honor and Duty: Galcom commanders are entrusted with the peace and secruity of the galaxy. Commanders provide escort to neutral ships, provide a means of stimulating the galactic economy, and help oppressed and endangered nations. Galcom's millitary is just a small part of what we are. But the fighting forces of Galcom are extremely helpful in fufilling are charters of galactic unity, prosperity, and co-operation. And (saying what might be called mudslinging) the Insurrgents are dedicated to "liberating", by force, Earth. That's it. They are in no way intrested in peace, trade, or fellow nations. Heck, sometimes their (dis)organization seems down-right xenophobic! So, to sum it up, the differences in Galcom and the Insurrgency could be summed up in three words: order or war? [rp] Come on, Galcom! Defend yourself! Show your pride! Why did you sign with Prime, or Orion, or Wraith, or EarthCom, or ISS? Tell them! ------------------ Commander David "Whisper" Liev *Fighter Commander Sationed, Wraith HQ "The underestimated weapon will deal overestimated havoc." ICQ # 78084562 =Wraith Fleet=

Okie-doke, Greenwhich 'tis. Oh, and...I don't no where else to put this...I just found out that I screwed up my e-mail address in my "Profile". It's changed. I am most terribly sorry for any grief this might have caused. [This message has been edited by Whisper (edited 06-26-2000).]

Why haven't we put a colony on the moon yet? Very simple: not enough public intrest, thus not enough funds for NASA and who-da. But a colony on Luna wouldn't be profitable or get much return on it for many years, because it is enormously expensive to start a cargo run between Earth and Luna. And the colony wouldn't be self-sustaining for bunchs of years, because of atmosophere and such. But we could do it! Oh well.

Drat! Double drat! Sorry I missed everything (Ben's sending me the minutes), but I thought I said 2100 EST, Sunday June 25th. Was I unclear on that? I apologize. But, as Gallion said, there will be others. Ohhh, and I'm just bursting with ideas! Oh well, I'll just check me mail and see what you folks thought up. Untill next time!

Dear, oh dear, I'm being played like a ping-pong ball. Saturday the 24th is still out, but I can make it Sunday. I regret to annonce that I will be far, far away from a computer this weekend, due to a last-minute compramise. But perhaps we could reschedule to next Saturday, on July 1st. Maybe this will also give Cmdr. Smith an opportunity to join us? ------------------ Commander David "Whisper" Liev *Fighter Commander Sationed, Wraith HQ "The underestimated weapon will deal overestimated havoc." Finaly, someone with some sense!

As you may or may not be aware, Cmdr. Logan, Wraith also has a fighter branch that you are more than welcome to join. If you like troop insertions and extracts, sometimes that involves a shuttle as well as a Generis. Fighter Command is the organization who handels fighters and shuttles and such in Wraith, and you can be a pilot as well as a fancy pancy Big Arse Carrier pilot. Oh, don't listen to Gallion if he advices you to avoid WFC. He's a little biased. Then again, so am I! And welcome to Wraith, the best seat in the house! ------------------ Commander David "Whisper" Liev *Fighter Commander Sationed, Wraith HQ "The underestimated weapon will deal overestimated havoc." It's begining to look like 1800 Pacific, 1900 Mountain, 2000 Central, 2100 Eastern, on June 24. Did I get that right? If this conflicts with anyone, please post before date.

Check out each of the fleets websites (you can find them through the CMDR FLEETS link on the main page). Each fleet has a sort of "specialty" or a specific mission they fullfill. I chose Wraith necause they had some niffty reconisence and "Black Ops" type Wings. And then I got handed a whole new division! ------------------ Commander David "Whisper" Liev *Fighter Commander Sationed, Wraith HQ "The underestimated weapon will deal overestimated havoc." =Wraith Fleet=

Oh, sure, Gallion, so you can come on in and learn what we're gonna do to ya? Naw, your invited. The real fun in making tacrics is that they should work even when the enemy knows it! ------------------ Commander David "Whisper" Liev *Fighter Commander Sationed, Wraith HQ "The underestimated weapon will deal overestimated havoc." =Wraith Fleet=

Attention pilots! I am considering holding a ICQ chat discussion on strategies for anti-capital ship engagements, such as what I and Gallion have been discussing . I begin this topic to try to arange an appropriate time for this meeting. If you do not have an ICQ device, you may download one at http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-10061...10061-108-19877 If you have an alternate suggestion for chat software or a web-chat sort of thing, please mention it. When everone can decide on a place and time, I'll try to open it up. All pilots need not attend. ------------------ Commander David "Whisper" Liev *Fighter Commander Sationed, Wraith HQ "The underestimated weapon will deal overestimated havoc." =Wraith Fleet=

I've played a few WWII fighter sims in my day, and I've comed to realize that there is no comparison between "air" sims and space sims. The dynamics are completlly different, the weapons act differently, there's no ground to crash into, all sorts of stuff. But two of the things that are most important are this: shields and hyperdrive. With a hyperdrive, a craft can retreat very quickly, "heal" by charging the shields back up, and rejoin the fray fresh. Yes, turrets are real nasty, and in v2.0*, BC handeling is very quick. But this "showdown" will be using the BC:M engine, which our dear SC said was rather different, and BC aren't gonna move and groove like they used to. So perhaps Gallion's "Capitin Insaneo" tactics won't be valid. I saw your point about dodging and catching up at the same time. But if a pilot was not trying for a missile hit and just trying to use lasers, one would not need to be that close to a BC. If enough fighters are dodging and swearving and making hits 5-7 klicks away from the BC, that captial ship is gonna have a rough time at it. Might I add, though, on a sperate note. The "duel" we are disscusing between a BC (or similar capital ship) and 2-3 flights of fighters probably would not oocur to often in the game. What would be more likely is something like this: a strike force (2 capital ships carrying a flight each, in conjunction with an additonal flight of fighters) would encounter its target (say a medium sized starsation with the usual defences), and a battle would ensue. The point I'm trying to make is that preparing for a strictly fighter vs. BC situation would perhaps be a waste of time. But I'm game for a little brawl with my CO. ------------------ Commander David "Whisper" Liev *Fighter Commander Sationed, Wraith HQ "The underestimated weapon will deal overestimated havoc." =Wraith Fleet=

True, missile hits will be rather close, but any manevour a BC can do, a fighter can easily match. And sure, shields recharge fast, but "pea-shooters" are faster. Ohh, I can't wait untill BC:M! Weee! ------------------ Commander David "Whisper" Liev *Fighter Commander Sationed, Wraith HQ "The underestimated weapon will deal overestimated havoc." =Wraith Fleet=

Darn... It looks like those gosh dern clever Insurrgents caught on to our evil plot to steal thier top secret battle plans. You blew it, Tac! For the Hienlien fans out there, TANSTAAFL. Oh well, t'was fun while it lasted. I don't want to rub your Insurrgent noses in this (since I know you're going to read this!), but that whole episode was really quite funny! Imagiane my amazment and delight when the super-secretive rebels were giving out counter-strategies for our very own fledging Fighter Command! You just can't get better intell than that! No hard feelings, fellas, okay? Just a little boo-boo. And what was that crack at our Fleet Commander?! ------------------ Commander David "Whisper" Liev *Fighter Commander Sationed, Wraith HQ "The underestimated weapon will deal overestimated havoc." =Wraith Fleet= [This message has been edited by Whisper (edited 06-20-2000).]

Terminus : Nutty old Parias needs your help!
Whisper replied to Parias's topic in PC Gaming & Technology
I'm no espert either, and do this only if ABSOULTLY NOTHING ELSE works. Go into DOS, copy all important documents onto floppies, and wipe your hard drive using FDISK. Stick the boot disk into the drive, shut off your computer, turn your computer back on, and reinstall Windows. Something similar like this (error loop) happened to me somewhat recently, and after I tried eveything else, I did the above. Just put as much onto floppies (or zip disks if you got 'em) as you can. Often times game save files are too big for floppies, so kiss them goodbye. If there is an absolutley critical document that is to big for a floppy and can be found nowhere else, go get a zip drive or something familiar (and DOS compatible!) Lastly, let out a good cry. You will be unable to salvage your bookmarks, that monster download that took you three weeks, BC high score, all that. But please remember that the websites are still there, the games may be played again, and that 400mb demo wasn't that much fun anyway. Once again, DO NOT DO ANY OF THE ABOVE UNLESS YOU HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING ELSE. Wait around this topic for a week or six, and see if something comes out that works. Hope your "best friend" gets well soon. -
Oh! Gallion! I jsut got a great idea! Your wing (the Corsairs) styles itself as a band of pirates more or less, right? Wouldn't it be fun for a bunch of you Corsairs to learn fighters, and roam around multiplayer picking fights? All the newbies would think "Pshaw! Just 8 fighters? Ha! I got a BC mk3! Bring it on!", while all the vets would remeber the fammed Corsair fighters and chuckle to themselves as the newbie engages. After the green gest ripped to shreds a shuttle could come out and "liberate: some cargo. They could be a kind of roving pirate squadron, luring unsuspecting greenhorns into the gaping jaws of plunder and pillage! That sound like fun? Why are several people conviced that a (assume for the sake of argument) BC will mop the celestial floor with 2 flights of fighters? A BC has three offensive assets and two defensive assets. Offensive: Main Laser- a joke when it come to anti-fighter deatail, as long as the fighters aren't moving real slow and close togheter. If decoupled, the already small maneuverability of a BC is cut to jsut about ziltch, making it a nice fat bulls-eye. Not a threat if fighters don't travel in clumps. Missiles- Jammers make them irrelevant. But if a missile does achive a lock on a craft, a fighter is fully capable of dodging and destroying the warhead. If worst comes to worst, a fighter can avoid a missile untill the missile runs out of fuel. Not a threat to a good pilot. PTA- While they fire fast and track quickly, the "stream" of PTA fire is easy to avoid, and the system has several blind spots. The PTA's effective range is only about 5km if both BC and fighter are moving. Even though there are 3 turrets, there are 4 fighters in a flight, and a 2 flights are not a unreasonably sized task force for a normal operation. Not a threat if pilot can use evasive tactics and stays out of effective firing range. Defensive: Shields- the biggest problem with shields is that they can recharge, and a fully upgraded system can take some serious beating. But if the attacking fighter group is competent and can avoid all offensive systems, it is just a matter of time before the shields get beaten down. Armor- If a BC starts taking hits with its armor, regardless of upgrades, it's in deep trouble. Systems begin failing, crew start dying, and a wise commander begins contemplating retreat. Armor could still take a number of hits, and there is still chance for survival, but if fighters have done this much already, there ain't much hope. So, if the pilots know what they're doing, we don't need 15 fighters with Vagrants. 8 will do nicely, and missiles might not even be nesscary if the BC commander isn't too experienced. ------------------ Commander David "Whisper" Liev *Fighter Commander Sationed, Wraith HQ "The underestimated weapon will deal overestimated havoc." =Wraith Fleet=

It seems like we've come to the point where only a battle will resolve this dillema.
