  1. Paddy, I feel for ya. Another Voodoo owner, and I'm just going to have to suffer. I've resolved myself to that fact. But if it's any consolation, when the new Geforce cards come out, prices should drop. Grabbing a GF 2 would be better than staying with the V5 in my H.O.
  2. I want to vouch for Menchise also! I like to think I can smell a troll a mile away, and Menchise is no Troll. I'm positive. I understand there may be something suspicious happening, but it has nothing to do with him, I'm sure. If you need convincing, consider my voice added to the fray!
  3. basseb Dude... If there is any way you can get your money back, I'd try it. I know for a fact that there's an EB in Ottawa, if you live nearby, you could snag a copy there and save yourself alot of dough. And I'd check to see if there's one in Montreal, I don't see why there wouldn't be. Just tellin you what I'd do.
  4. Okay, I forgot about the faq!!! I'm a loser!!! Thanks for pointing it out to everybody
  5. basseb So we wait a couple of weeks, so what. It's Canada. I'd be more concerned if I was living in Australia or Europe or something. That could be a long wait. And hey, that's right. You don't have to order it online. Unless you live too far away from an EB. If that's the case, you may find a friendly Canuck here who could help out if they live close by. 6. Okay, just so I'm clear on this... We can re-register on the General forum without the game, to gain access to all other forums we'll need to have bought the game. I just want to be clear, cause I don't think I'm getting a copy of the game before the 17th, and in case something weird happens with my order, (they misplace my number, they loose it behind a radiator) I would still love to be able to check out the general forum while waiting for my copy.
  7. Can you say which sound and which video drivers you had problems with? Actually I'll be more specific, any problems with the Geforce 3 drivers, or Creative Soundblaster drivers. I'd love to know for the obvious reasons.
  8. I too, am a 98SE user, and I am sooooooo ready to dump it in the trash for the stability of an OS based on Win NT code. I have it from very reliable sources that the NT core is super stable. And from what I understand, they actually placed Dos game support into XP and according to PC Gamer, it works. We'll see if it does, and I'll let you guys know if there are any problems. Personally I'm getting ready to kiss my Dos games good bye. I loved them. I'm playing the last few of them as we speak. But I can't take it anymore! I need stability. Win 98 has served me well. We've been through alot together, good times, bad times, and now it's time to BURN IT ON THE TRASH HEAP OF TIME!!! XP will be stable, it will hopefully be able to handle Duke Nukem, and if you don't like the look it comes with the classic win 98 interface. The only thing that ticks me off royally about the whole deal is this... They want info about my computer?! For what, to stop me from loading it on another computer? I'm sorry but... a) If I have two computers in my house, I should be able to load it onto both of them with one copy. You don't like it Bill, tough for you. It's my house, they're my computers! I upgrade like it's going out of style. It is going to be a pain if I get to the point where I have to call them just so I can load the damn thing on my computer. That will really tick me off big time. But in spite of it all, I'm making the jump. I'm going to be an early adopter. And I'll let you know if you should jump right in, or stay the hell away.
  9. My money says XP is the OS of my dreams!

That bootable CD idea ROCKs. I don't know why I hadn't thought of it. Thanks for the tip!

    Formatting

Once a year for me. I find that the Windows 9x OS takes about a year to get bogged down with crap. A clean format and re-install makes every thing work just fine. I really do hope that Win XP is everything it's supposed to be. Then, dare I say it, you may not need to re format your drive for a very long time. But, alas, only time will tell. I wouldn't worry about harming the drive itself. I've never ever heard about an over-formatted hard drive. I'm not saying it's impossible to over-format, I'm just saying it's not something you hear about too often. And once a year is NOT too often.
  12. By the way, SC, you may want to change the release date on the BCM product info page. Heh hehe!
  13. We all know the requirments! What we all want to know is... will I want to upgrade my CPU the moment I start playing, or will I even forget what CPU I have, lost in the world of BCM. And the difficulty in answering that question is that the jugdment really is quite subjective. I may not have a problem with the occasinal stutter on a P3 500, whereas, someone else may not be satisfied unless they're running on a 2ghz with 256 meg of Rambus RAM. I don't think Derek can tell what your personal tastes are, but... My guess is that with a P3 750 (and this is a guess) you'll be fine. My P3 500 / Voodoo 3 combo however...
  14. I have so many questions I want to ask, but part of me just wants to be surprised when I get my greedy little hands on the game. There was some talk of issues with frame rates dropping when a massive fire fight starts up. Has that been cleared up? (Not that I care too much. I'm planning on upgrading to a 1.5 Ghz machine, and from what I understand, 1 Ghz should handle it, but it's the only question I could ask that has nothing to do with the content of the game. I'm so excited, I can't take it!!!)
  15. I called them. Heh, I'm a little eager.
  16. And I just got word from my local EB, they're expecting to have my copy Oct 17th. Whoo hooo!!!!!
  17. I'm gonna wait for the new Geforce 3 to release before picking up the older G3. Prices are about to drop so don't go changing your card this second. Wait a while.
  18. Woah, whad I miss? Is Macon gone, I thought he was joking?
  19. Hey Macon, I hear ya, I know how you feel, I've been there. I'm not worried. I actually think it's a GREAT idea from a tech support angle, to have as a part of registration handing over my computer specs. It may become problematic cause I change something in my computer every six months. Sometimes I upgrade the whole shooting match, and I know myself, I won't remember to change my stats on the site. I'll try but I know I won't. It's still a good idea I think. And the marketing stuff... well, personally I don't give a damn if he knows my profession unless I'm unemployed. Then it would just bugs me that someone somewhere knows I'm spending my time gaming and not working. But personally I don't see it as being such a big deal. But I also think that anyone I give personal information to should take it very seriously. It's a delicate thing in this age, to allow someone to know you and yet at the same time know nothing about you is what the internet is all about. Knowledge is power. I have faith that Derek wouldn't do anything un toward with my info, but no one can be sure about someone hacking into the site and taking the info, then what. Personally I don't think you should be concerned, but I can see why you are concerned.
  20. Macon I think that's a valid point, but I doubt many people do that. And usually I just use the demo of a game to see how it plays on my configuration. Here's my 0.02. Have a page with the updated demo's for down load. If you like the game, buy it, then register on the forums. And if you don't like 3000ad knowing your proffesion, do what most people do when they don't want to give out information that they consider to be too personal... fib. I don't think Derek really cares about what you do for a living, but if you want to impress him, put down President of the United States. It'll give him a kick to see the leader of the free world is checking out Galcom. [ 10-02-2001: Message edited by: Kush ]
  21. Derek... what the hell are you doing?!!! Go on vacation. Go. Take a trip. You deserve it! I'm very serious. It IS possible to over work yourself. I know some are going to hate me for saying it, but the demo can wait. Go relax for a week at least. We'll be fine. You 've been working hard for all of us, now it's time for you to spend some time on yourself! I'm so emphatic cause I USED to be just like you. (I still am, a bit ) You work all out on a massive project then when it's done, you can't stop, you just keep going. It gets to you. Trust me. Promise me you're gonna take a break. If not now, soon. You'll need it. Trust me.
  22. Fendi, I gotta jump on the band wagon... You're twenty FOUR!!! Chill. You don't have to know what or who or where you'll be at 34. I'M AT 34. I know what I want to happen. Whether it does or not is not up to me. a) Two kids. Boy and a girl. Same wife. Better house. c) Total job satisfaction. That's what I want. I keep telling myself Pierre Trudeau had no idea what he wanted to be until he was forty. (He ended up being the greatest prime minister of the last century.) At least I'm starting to know what I want to do. I'm ahead of him already. That's not too shabby.
  23. The countdown to GCO is going to be pretty intense I can tell you.
  24. Heavy handed? I want a joystick that works, heavy hand or not! They could build joysticks that are more durable, but they don't. I've been burned in the past by most flight stick makers, and now I only buy one cheap enough that I don't mind throwing it away when it falls apart.
  25. You go $ilk!!! Nice job kicking butt
