  1. "It's funny cause it's true."
  2. I'm with Luc on this one. Just because a reviewer has played the game and you haven't means that he has an opinion. Not necessarily a VALID opinion. Just an opinion. You can't depend on just a review to know whether or not you want to play the game. You could miss out on alot of fun. You depend on your friends first and formost. Then you depend on news and reports about the game from game sights. Then you rely on your own opinion as to whether or not the gameplay is something you might be interested in. Then finally you look at the review, you make an assesment as to whether or not you feel the reviewer has a valid opinion, then you get teh game. Or in my case, you wait until your wife says it's okay to buy the game.
  3. Gary Trudeau's brother... heh heh.
  4. I'm glad you and your wife are alight. Every now and then, something like this happens in all our lives I think. And it just makes you realize how fortunate we are to be alive for another day.
  5. The reason why the Canadian Dollar is so low is because we KEEP IT LOW. A low Canadian dollar makes Canadian manufactured goods and services all the more attractive to American companies. I shouldn't really spill the beans here with so many American's listening, but having a dollar on par or higher than America was a good strategy when all we did was sell natural resources to the States. Then came along Pierre Trudeau (I know you westerners just LOVE him) He turned things around. Started Canada on a road towards becoming a nation of manufacturing goods. It started with branch plants, American companies could only operate here if they had a canadian branch of their company. A Branch Plant. The American's said, "Sure, whatever." And companies sprang up like wildfire due to our a)highly educated workforce, easy access to natural resources and power c) a lower currency means the American dollar HAS MORE BUYING POWER. This has served Canada well in the decades that follow. The reason why American films from 'The Score' to 'Good Will Hunting' to 'Driven' to series like the X Files and Robocop, and Relic Hunter are shot here in Canada. We make literally Billions of dollars in trade thanks to our low dollar. We don't lose, we win big time. By the way, the low dollar has nothing to do with the debt. It does affect intrest, but being in debt creates being in debt. And America has a MUCH bigger debt per capita than we do. (They also have a MUCH higher GDP than we do ) The only people who want a dollar on par with America are old people who remember when all we did was sell lumber. People who sell lumber. And people who haven't got a clue as to how the economy of this country works. Personally I love a low dollar. It means I get to work with more and more Americans everyday. And as much as I like to tease them mercilessly, they are really cool people deep down inside. Just don't let them know you think they're cool, they'll never let you forget it. ;D
  6. Hey, cut the guy a little slack, he wasn't whining too loud. And i'm not sure if the download at file planet includes the manual. (which you will find here on this site in the files section.) You'll need Adobe acrobat to read it, and I'd print out the whole thing if I were you. Jumping back and forth between Acrobat and BC3k is a hassle.
  7. What I want to know is WHEN will it be released. I've been talking it up to my friends and I want to know when I should tell them to check it out?
  8. I understand your fear but it is baseless I tell you, baseless. All new features should be in the demo readme file. Green text indicates new information. Occasionally new information doesn't appear in green but very very rarely and looking for new info is half the fun. If you want to know the current state of the game, look at the latest update and the Known Bug file. That's what I do. After a while, you get a good idea what's being tackled first and what has been put on the shelf. I've become a little addicted to the VCF. Sometimes I think it's better to not look at it EVERY DAY, but I can't help myself. It's a good idea. Wish more developers did things this way.
  9. Rock and Roll!!!!! Very smart move. (No pun intended. ) PS I may ask you to put on lipstick, but I'd never call you Sally.

    LEXX?

I stand corrected Maybe the show isnt that bad after all.
  11. Well $ilk, so far SC hasn't said you're wrong. I still like my idea better. And in keeping with the topic, I have to say thank you Derek for taking so much time to get it right. My heart wants you to release it now, but my head knows it helps everyone that you work out all the bugs you can before release. I actually really do appreciate this. I wish more developers did what you're doing.

    LEXX?

Micheal McManus (I'm not sure about the spelling on the last name.) He's a very cool guy and a great actor. Mostly seen him in theatre. Fendi... Yes she's hot. No I can't get you her number.

    LEXX?

Actually it's a Canada/Germany co production. One of the actors on it is a friend of mine. I've never seen an episode because he's warned me off it. The money is German, the writing is Canadian. (Meaning the writing is horrendous.)
  14. Actually $ilk, I think I figured it out. BCM.... THE MOVIE. Brad Pitt stars as a trigger happy Elite Force Command operative up against the odds. He travels to a far off Military outpost, only to find Kirsten Dunst under siege trying to protect an experimental craft. John Lithgow plays the evil Doctor Curtis who has joined the rebel force and wants the craft for himself Man... I should work for Hollywood.
  15. Oh Man... It's just like trying to quit smoking. You get one little taste, and you just want more! Nice to hear about the speed up. The Demos run fine on my system, but more speed can't hurt. It's so nice to see the remaining issues are so few and far between. You seem to be nailing them as fast as they pop up. I know this next question is about as annoying as asking 'Are We There YET?!' But I'm gonna try anyhooo, how close do you feel? Don't give me a date! I don't want to hear a number or a month, but do you feel on top of things? Do things look good. Just the general feel. That's all I want. (Getting the demos really helped with the cravings, but I'm still an addict, so sue me!) And I'm astonished that no one has uttered a peep as far as I can tell about the big surprise on the 16th. My guess is a single player mission to be realeased after BCM ships. I know, my deductive powers are freaky. What can I say, it's a gift.
  16. Seven Kingdoms Rocks!!! It was way better than Age of Empires. It should have sold way more than Age.
  17. Darn, I missed Hamblin's post. I'm so sad. On a more serious note... Can anyone in the Beta toss us non beta people a bone as to how things look without breaking the NDA? It's been a while since the SC allowed Beta people to talk about the game and I'm just dying to get any little scrap or crumb of how things look. From the VCF it looks like things are getting real close, and I'd love to hear anything about how things look.
  18. BCFreak13, Trust me, you speak for all of us. Even grumpy old Commander Hamblin. Now if we could just find the Stone of NVidia, we could increase his Code Skill by 7 points and with the Boots of Neversleep, Derek could finish the game tomorrow.
  19. I for one really appreciate the fact that as a developer he stuck around. He believed in his product and himself and he stuck to his vision and turned what could have been a total disaster into a truly great game. Richard Gariot didn't do that. John Romero didn't do that. I could go on. There are enough people 'out there' on the net going over old crap, taking cheap shots at the guy. I think it's okay to have one place where people who appreciate his hard work can pat him on the back and say THANKS. (Don't worry about inflating his ego. I think he can handle it )
  20. Menchise There is no bad press. The handful of articles we read on the net is NOTHING. Most people don't have a clue. And when XP is released M$ is going to do their best to squelch any naysayers. I hope the major media outlets pick up on the resistence to XP. They might, they might not. In the mean time vote with your wallets. And write a letter. Not an e-mail, a letter. I'm serious. You wouldn't believe how big an impact getting a piece of paper from a total stranger has on a software company. You may think it's nothing, but it does have an effect. I still use Word for Win 95. If I were to upgrade, it would be to Wordperfect. For obvious reasons.
  21. And yet another reason to hate Micro$oft... http://www.zdnet.com/zdnn/stories/news/0,4...hkpt=hud0004200 [ 07-04-2001: Message edited by: Kush ]
  22. quote:Originally posted by Spuzzum: Well, you can't ignore the fact that Canada has one of the poorest records for film productions on the planet. Our movies blatantly suck. If they go down to the 'States, they'll at least have a chance. LOL! Boy do we EVER! There've been a couple of movies that don't suck too much... Decline of the American Empire, Jesus of Montreal... but those are French films from Quebec where they have real film makers who have actual talent. The vast majority of English Canadian films blow chunks. Big time. (I did like Don Mcellar's 'Last Night'. If you haven't seen it, it's a good rental.) [ 07-03-2001: Message edited by: Kush ]

  24. If it makes you feel any better, I'm sure sooner or later there's going to be a hack that will disable it. In the mean time, take a serious look at other office software. Send a letter to MS telling them what you think (they actually do mean something). Remember, part of the reason why MS has a monopoly is because WE GAVE IT TO THEM.
  25. Speak of the Devil... XP Activation Nightmare!!! If I ran Corel, I would put a HUGE amount of cash into an ad campaign that said, "Look, you can use our office suite, any files you created with MS Office are completely compatible, and NO ACTIVATION!!! No subscription payments, no nothing." But I'm not the head of Corel. The head of Corel probably right now has his head in the sand. I feel like sending an e-mail. I think I just might.
