Quoting Hamblin on the OF forum: quote:Oh, and lastly, yes, there was a type of ship called a Battlecruiser. Back in the early 20th Century, a British Admiral by the name of Sir Jackie Fisher, invented a new type of ship called the Battlecruiser, the first one being launched in 1909 and named HMS Invincible. The Battlecruiser was one of two major warship concepts that Fisher brought to Naval warfare (the other being the Dreadnought Battleship). It was a ship with the size and armament of a Battleship (in some cases, the armament was superior), but sacrificed armour for speed. For example, when comparing HMS Invincible, she was armed with eight 12" guns as her main battery, about the equivalent of her contemporaries (such as HMS Dreadnought, armed with ten 12" guns, main battery). However, Dreadnought had 11" armour on her belt, to Invincible's 7". They were therefore designated "cruiser killers", ships which relied on their speed to be able to keep up, and outdistance an enemy Cruiser, whilst at the same time pounding it with it's superior armament. It also meant that these ships were virtual death traps when fighting a true Battleship, as their armament and range advantage is nulled when used in a ship-of-the-line fashion against a Battleship, and their weak armour proves to be their undoing.

< incoming transmission > < Encoding : none > Welcome in the ISS fleet, Commander Von Schaffen. Since ISS' numbers are still small I am the acting leader of the Destrier Wing. Don't worry, I'll try to give you a mission profile that is ISS-like, but you might have to do it the Orion way sometimes. Any question, comment or anything else can be addressed to me by email to [email protected] < end of transmission > [ 10-19-2001: Message edited by: Epsilon 5 ]

Hmm. If I can put the win98 look back in WinXP (entirely) I wouldn't care too much. I hate the XP fisher-price look.

I'm sure Hamblin has something different to say about that... I think frigates are fast, AA vessels (well in space we are talking about anti-fighter), while Destroyers are fast, well equipped AS vessels. Cruisers would be like Destroyers, but bigger, more armored, and better and more weapons. Battleships are king-size vessels, slow but not to underestimate, capable of delivering an incredible punch. If I was to associate what I said with the BC vessel classes, I'd say frigates are heavy-cruisers, destroyers are super-cruisers, cruisers are heavy-carriers and battleships are super-carriers.

Unknown_Enemy... what's with the sig?

LOL! some of this stuff is simply ridiculous... seen the face of god? hahahaha! I heard about the deformation of the news in muslim territories... some say that the terrorists that hijacked the planes called 5 hours after the crash to say they are alive. I hate psychological warfare... everyone (but not me ) is going crazy with the anthax fear, by the fear of other terrorist attacks... Al-Qaïda keeps saying stuff but nothing will happens... until everyone is freaked out, they it'll be near-chaos.

quote:Im a bit ignorant on the gun control policies of other countries besides the US and my own. Any Euro or Asian nation out there ban weapons completely? This what I know about guns in Canada - You can possess any contact weapon (i.e. sword) but too many can be suspicious. You can also possess any BB gun. - You must be at least 18 (well DUH!) - You must not have a criminal record (at all) - You need a permit, and you need to prove regularily that you know how to handle them. You must prove that you also know how to lock them away. - Before giving you a permit they investigate on all they can find on you, to be sure you're not dangerous in any way (even slightly) - You cannot have military or specialised weapons. - You cannot have explosives (duh...) Basically you can only have pistol and hunting rifles, unless you are a armorer or specialised collector.

The more the better. Always.

Long before today people learned that the earth wasn't the center of the universe, and that everything wasn't revolving around it, as they thought. Now people must learn they are not the center of the universe. On the contrary, they are meaningless dots in the grand sheme of things... and that THEY must work to be recognised and known. Welcome to our nightmare
