Did you install the patch correctly? (Second step is greyed out. You should do it, but I'm not sure. The downloads page states that 1.0.08 RC23 is a FULL patch, while I haven't heard any other word from SC. If it is a full patch, you could go ahead and install that RC patch first thing, but if that doesn't work, then it's obvious you should try the other route.) [*]Install BCM [*]Copy the 1.0.07 FULL patch .exe file to the BCM directory, and run it from there. NOT THE DESKTOP OR IT WON'T CORRECTLY INSTALL. [*]Copy the 1.0.08 RC23 patch to the BCM directory and install. [*]Unzip the models update into the BCM folder. I myself have been having models disappear once in a while, but that's because I've been doing graphics tweaking recently. Changed the settings back to defaults, and that helped me. If you're tweaking some stuff, try undoing that Dreil. . Oh yes, and also. I've been having some sort of graphic anomoly happening, regardless of graphics settings. Once in a while, while in hyperspace, if I use an external camera to view some objects, I'll see some phantom particle trails (yes, I have them active) where the center of the screen is. Other times, I'll see them floating around, usually in front of a station. I can tell it's obviously something not intentionally put in or some sort of in-game thing, because they're my trails, in the sense that if I disengage thrust, the trail slows down and disappears as if it's on my ship. Happens in 800x600 and 1024x800, both 16bit and 32bit, regardless of what ship I've used. I'll do a re-install of BCM and report back in ASAP to see if it's just an install problem. I'm glad to report NOT A SINGLE MAJOR PROBLEM on my end. Most of the trouble I have is just having my computer hang or lag, which it does anyway. It's so freaking stable compared to the original release. It's been nice and good. And I've been getting better framerates recently, opposed to 1.0.07. Which I'm hella grateful for. (And I can't believe it's been like 8+ months since 1.0.07..... Time's been outta synch for me recently. ) quote:#2 by spiflication on 11/2/2002 12:52:39 AM PST is this the patch that makes it a game? No, it makes it THE GAME. If I find any trouble, I'll be sure to report it.

BTW, register into the DB, and spread the word. It'll only work if we get a piece of everyone.

Well, I couldn't figure out a good way to get an existing guestbook system to work for me with updatable information, so I decided to use the AvidGamers clan/community system, with some mods. It's been a long afternoon of chopjob coding. Anyway: Temporary Commander DB Main Page Commander Listing Register into the Database here Working on tweaking it right now. I mean, it's not gonna be very good, because I'm waiting for hte official FleetDB anywhoo. [ 10-30-2002, 06:22 PM: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

OMFG, I was like SOOO thinking this last night. I read this post this morning, and well, didn't have time to reply. But anyways, here I am. The forums are good. The community is sorta good, although the RPers have seemed to all but disappear. What I believe the community needs is not a new forum (i.e., BCC), but an actual organized site such as the proposed Starstation Centron that was brought up as an idea AGES ago. I was looking around, and realized how some of our organization has gone to be upgraded, only to disappear without a trace. We had the RP Timeline of DeSylva's a while back, which was the most thorough RP guide EVAR (lol ). We had the Fleet DB to organize who belonged where, who was what, how everything was organized, and what shipnames were taken. I'm attempting to make a quick little page to make a mini database of the taken shipnames and owners at the moment, just to serve that little purpose, in case some newbie tries to take someone else's ship. If I get a hold of Blades and/or DeSylva, I'll figure out what we can do about Centron, and what we're going to make out of it, if the operation is still go. Rumors have been around that Blades is gonna upgrade the BCC Forum (and/or the Orion Forum) to phpBB. I'm trying to expand my current Newbie Welcome Wagon and PR Officer projects, by reviving old ideas. IMO, the only thing that's been stunting this community is RL time. Which is far more important than the game, anyway. But, if we can find some of our old vets, and see if we can bring 'em back in time for MP, you just might see a big turnout of new stuff being chugged out constantly by some of the rest of us. I'm trying to put in my share by doing some old stuff I never finished; and I'm also trying to be the monkey on everyone elses back, trying to get them to finish their stuff as well. No, it's not that the community is dry; it's just the loose ends. And I hate loose ends. And the fact that it's been months since any major RP has happened. Currently working on the Newbie Projects. Later. [update: BTW, I'm gonna re-upload the RP Timeline and any old documents I have lying around. The ISS website, which hosted it, is down, so I might as well.] [ 10-30-2002, 03:36 PM: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

Was at school, but installed it earlier today. I'll go check right now. Congrats on post 10900, chief. Let the numbers fly. [update: Unless the "randomness" of the savegame bug let me load this session, all systems appear good. Thanks, SC. ] [ 10-29-2002, 03:38 PM: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

OMGOMG, thanks SC! Now I can actually try to play myself a full game instead of seeing how long I can last using resume.

That was my favorite one!

ROFL Random insanity. Check it out for yourselves.

Okay. Right-o. As I was saying. Back in the saddle. So, like, to prepare for MP, and a possible influx of newbies, as Orion PR Officer, and Newbie Welcome Wagon, I'm getting the ball rolling on finishing some of my older projects. New sig and new avatar. See sig extension. Both links (OF Handbook and Newbie Info) are active, and link to the current versions of both. The Newbie Info page is the same one from my old Orion RP Source site that went down a while back. I'll be sure to update it and add more as I go. More news later. Forum tip-of-the-day: jump to new posts
Cmdr Nova replied to Joel Schultz's topic in Battlecruiser 3000AD (Legacy)
OMG NEITHER HAVE I..........*cry* Hm... Tip of the day... Sounds like an idea there for me to use... Newbie Welcome Wagon thing and all. -
Eh, don't sweat it. I tried to do this with character profiles in Orion, and like, only one person replied with an actual profile. Go and pester them on AIM/ICQ/MSN or something, or by email, and see if they're still ticking. Then, check if they have the time to do the profile thing.

Happy birthday there, Kiran. Have a good one. I think there's an extra spacesuit around here somewhere.

omfg, I posted somethign here, but I think my connection crapped out or something, and it didn't post, and I didn't feel like rewriting it. quote:If you go with Bell, you will very quickly discover that AOL and PPPoE do not play well together. OMG SO NOT TRUE. quote:1. I hear AOL and Earthlink/Mindspring are the worst Broadband providers? Is this true?I'm getting DSL through my phone company (Southwestern Bell/SBC), and getting AOL Broadband as a side, with their "bring your own access" plan. I tell you--if you're a multimedia freak, or a heavy music fan or something (like myself), AOL Broadband has the biggest pool of streaming multimedia, and it's damn fast. I hate them being my main ISP, but as a multimedia provider, they're nearly second to none, considering they own a TON of the entertainment biz. Bellsouth runs under SBC (the Bell thing), and their DSL broadband access, I think, should be listed as Yahoo! SBC Broadband or something, as all the Bell companies are. I love my SBC DSL right now, and it's been very very reliable. You should have similar results. I get probably about 130-150KB/s down and about 13KB/s upstream most of the time. I've had no encounters with downtime, except during horrible bad weather when I wouldn't be using my computer anyway. As for Charter. I had Charter Cable before I got my DSL. It was good, and freaking fast back in the day, when no one else had it, but their reliability was kinda iffy. THen again, I had it back in the day when broadband all over the map had sucky reliability. If you can't afford $50/month + modem for the 1500/150 DSL, or you can't get it from where you're at, then try Cable out. It's better than not having broadband at all, and it's somewhat cheaper. I personally love cable, because of the faster upstream speed, and I've had some really positive reports from friends of mine with cable. Charter Pipeline uses Earthlink as your ISP, sorta. (Or they used to.) Charter would provide the line, and then Earthlink would serve as your ISP and everything. You'd be billed by Charter. You'll have an email address at Earthlink. Like I said, it was a while ago when I had this, so it may have changed. I think Earthlink did a very very nice job, however. Note, you should ONLY get Cable internet if you're a cable subscriber to that company. They'll give you some surcharge if you're not, because you're using the cable lines you'd use if you had their service. If you've got some more questioning about AOL, I'm probably the guy here who's been aroudn the AOL block way more times than anyone else. (And being in the AOL Beta program kinda helps, too.) So, yeah.

Have been having the CTD on save load problem. Yeah, I've noticed it's random as well, and I've found some luck in using "resume" opposed to "restore", but I'm not really assuming much. Awaiting next patch. (Since it's random, Buzz probably hasn't encountered it in his reinstall.) VCF Camping Time [ 10-24-2002, 07:42 AM: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]

Well. Newbie Welcome Wagon returns. I'm rusty from months of shore leave, so excuse me not knowing everything. That's SC's job, anywhoo. quote:Originally posted by Kiran: 1. As a marine or pilot are you doomed to forever be a loner, or do friendlies show up to help?Yes and no. In the game, right now, under free flight, it's just as usual, with the random AI guys coming in and out of reality. If a friendly station is under attack, expect it to launch shit. quote:2. How do I go about increasing the crew's AI?I only know of one way, and that's to leave them on station. Someone did some calculations on how long it'd take you to get them to 100 AI, and the figures came out to like a few months or something, IIRC. Make sure Windows is clean and like, stable, before undertaking such a mission. My rig's not really stable enough to go longer than like a couple days game time, but that's because I screw around too much. Lol. quote:3. Do co-pilots serve a purpose or can I assign them to shuttles without hindering the fighters' effectiveness? It's something about the accuracy of the shooting/bombardment. You can re-assign them as you wish. In something like the uber-carriers, you can have each pilot fly one fighter if you really really need the power. quote:hy does the manual say I can assign waypoints to away teams and transporter teams but the game doesn't let me?Haven't used ground crews so much. I'll look at this, since I'd be interested, too. I do know that you acn assign waypoints to craft, and those OC craft, and give orders to single marines. If stuff's not in the game yet, SC might've changed his mind, or might do it in MP. We'll hvae to see. quote:5. Is there any way to tell how far along the RE is when ID'ing artifacts? There is a chart somewhere or some data somewhere, that I recall, that listed some sort of timeframe for the research. It varies on the AI level of the RE, so mileage varies. I don't know of anyway to see the research process. Just leave it alone, and pretend it's not there. I try to buy artifacts earlier than usual, just to make time for that. quote:6. Is there any way to see what kind of minerals a planet/moon would yield?Nope. It's (sorta)random, I think, according to SC. quote:7. Is there any reason to explore planets that do not have visible zones? Not unless you're mining. Or jumping ship. Or leaving Resnig out to catch a cold. quote:I know this is a lot of questions, but I don't like floundering around not knowing what to do and no offense, but the manual and tutorials didn't help me very much with the execution of tasks. Is there a place I can go to find these answers, or do I just keep pestering you guys? Read the boards, and hang around. (That's how I learned and stuffs.) There's the FAQ and VCF (links @ top of board index page). Also. Check out the Appendix; like, very seriously. It's like better than the manual. Um... And experiment in the game. Lol, half of us didn't exactly know what to expect with regards to new stuff and differences to 3000ad. If you can't find a way to do something, then it's either not there, or you're looking in the wrong place. (Like, go to Tactical to replace a destroyed shuttle, opposed to Logistix, and etc.) Anyway, sorry I couldn't really be of much help. Shore leave really messes with you. Remember that.
