  1. Different that everyone knows what the term Abandonware means. I agree with the 2 points that Menchise said. To add a third point to it, companies sometimes re-release older games in "packs"; another way to keep squeezing cash from a perhaps abandoned game. I enjoy old-school games. NES, SNES, and DOS/Win9x based games; those were the days....
  2. Nah. I probably wouldn't pay. I use other sites to download the same stuff from. Sometimes even, the official game site's FTP could even be faster. Anyway, you could use ad-blocking tools (like the stuff in ZoneAlarm Pro) to block ads and popups. But, nowadays, sites seem to be forcing the ads onto you--GameSpy Arcade can't be accessed if you're blocking ads. Heh. With the cost of huge bandwith, and the demand of hundreds of thousands of users, I'm not surprised by this. I may not want to pay, but I'm not surprised. 3. Um. I'm going to post there soon. I just got my "space legs" back. Lol. Back to BC writing and stuff for me. If you need something to do in the meantime, I still need a picture, real life bio (optional), RP bio, and AE (role-play purposes) profile for the Orion Fleet Handbook, which I just started to re-write. http://www.orion.i8i.co.uk/forum/topic.asp...leet+Discussion
  4. What's this? SC hasn't posted in days? What's this? The VCF hasn't been updated for weeks? We haven't had a patch in over a month? What has this world come to? AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! Don't work yourself too hard, SC. (You know, between XP1 and Multiplayer, and stuff.) We're still here for you. Just keep us updated, so we all don't go insane. 5. Congrats, Jag. [ 04-28-2002, 03:03: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  6. The world is very disheartening. Especially recently. Ignorance. It's all about the ignorance which fuels the hate that kills, and fuels the idiotic politics in the day. I see my share of ignorance just about every day at school. Doesn't anyone even notice the world as a whole? Don't they actually notice that everyone else lives and dies like they? Or are they afraid of the truth? Heh. It's one of those days. I've had a long week.
  7. I'm in one of those weird moods, so you know. Heh. It's April 26th. Anniversary of the Chernobyl Nuclear Reactor incident. Anniversary of the 1 megaton, "Boxcar" underground nuclear warhead test in the US. And fate seemed to have another hiccup as well, as possibly one of the world's worst school shootings has happened in Germany, and Lisa 'Left Eye" Lopes, of the hip-hop group is dead in a car accident. Some strange evil coincidence this world brings about.
  8. quote:If the software comes with a EULA, it's not Abandonware, and can therefore be considered pirated.Really? That's taking it to an extreme. You didn't remember this in you speech, did you? Er, and clarify the term "freeware statement". It's kinda confusing me. If you pay for something, it can't be freeware. Unless portions of it are, then they have to make some sort of credit. ______ Hehe. You could always wait until the Copyright expires if you really wanna be um, legit. quote:How long does copyright last? The Sonny Bono Copyright Term Extension Act, signed into law on October 27, 1998, amends the provisions concerning duration of copyright protection. Effective immediately, the terms of copyright are generally extended for an additional 20 years. Specific provisions are as follows: * For works created after January 1, 1978, copyright protection will endure for the life of the author plus an additional 70 years. In the case of a joint work, the term lasts for 70 years after the last surviving authorÔÇÖs death. For anonymous and pseudonymous works and works made for hire, the term will be 95 years from the year of first publication or 120 years from the year of creation, whichever expires first; * For works created but not published or registered before January 1, 1978, the term endures for life of the author plus 70 years, but in no case will expire earlier than December 31, 2002. If the work is published before December 31, 2002, the term will not expire before December 31, 2047; * For pre-1978 works still in their original or renewal term of copyright, the total term is extended to 95 years from the date that copyright was originally secured. For further information see Circular 15a.lol.
  9. If Nick says it's okay, then I could add it. I added a "Upcoming/Recent Release" board on it. (Er, I forgot to ask, though. But I think it's good for the site.)
  10. I'm not sure. But considering the site only has like 2 or 4 reviews in total, we could use a back-buffer of reviews..... Jamont?
  11. *bump* Listen now. It starts soon.
  12. Hell, I watch TechTV all the time. I think I'll enjoy this. Having a TV near the computer has always been a good thing.
  13. The server's moved to http://www.forum.orionfleet.com/. If you're there, and you can't find it, see if you've got "Show all topics" on. To make it easier, here's a link. *ahem* Where is everyone else? It used to be that I'd miss one or two days and fall so far behind..... Now it's just, blah. 14. Ahoy. I could help around. Even though I'm more of a coder than a content creator, I've always loved shouting my opinion when it comes to games. And I could help with news updates, downloads, and stuff. Contact me ([email protected]) if you want to talk one-on-one.
  15. I'll begin this post with what I think about it. Wow. Now, I'll continue with some actual information about it, and what makes it so cool. First, you can find it here. It's a project, that's set to take a record of most of the internet, as it happens. Some of the archives go back as far as 1996..... When I found it, I thought I'd give it a test spin. Here's the list of 3000ad.com Archives. (Some may not work.) Point of interest: the forums, as of December 12, 1998. Ancient. www.orionfleet.com is also cool to look at it's evolution.... Besides that, I haven't found any really good BC-related stuff. Hm... Wraith Fleet hasn't changed, ISS has blocked search engine bots, and well..... Try the thing. It's incredible how many now-dead sites I could find cached on there.

  17. Yes, RDRAM needs to be installed in pairs. Get two 256mb modules instead. 400 watts is more than enough power for a gaming system. And what kind of game card are you talking about? The kind of game port thing? Most (nearly all) PCI sound cards have them already. Depending on your purpose for it, I expect most of the other people on the boards to tell you to get an AMD Athlon. Hm... I don't really see any big downfalls to your system.
  18. For anyone who hasn't listened to B2Radio yet, and/or isn't on the B2 mailing list, there's a brand new show in town. Here's the official stuffs (from the B2Radio Schedule): quote: Hot on the heels of THE BASEMENT comes Thursday nights BRAND NEW show - THE HITCHING HOURS - kicking out the biggest and baddest rock and metal tracks this side of hell. Presented by B2 RADIO newcomers Hitch and Monsta, expect more than your average hard rock and thrash experience as these two will pick up where THE BASEMENT left off and have your hurling your lunch into your lap. Catch them LIVE every Thursday from 9pm - midnight only on the UK's premier internet radio station - B2 RADIO.Well, I only got a chance to catch the first hour or so of it, but they've got me itching for more. I'll definitely tune in next time. Any fan of Rock music would be pleased. And all those peeps who think diehard American music 0wnz0rz the stuff Blades's been playing on The Basement--I'd suggest you join too. (Hehe, sorry Blades, but you know it's true. ) That's Thursdays, 9PM-Midnight (GMT). That's just about 4 o'clock 'til 7 o'clock, Eastern Time. All info for it should be at the B2: Radio Website. 19. Was bored, and decided to watch a couple flix on AtomFilms. Go here. It's like an infomercial for Al Qaeda. I thought it was pretty damn funny..... Man, some people have too much time on their hands, and they use it with Shockwave. Praise Allah!
  20. quote:our message stop wars all over the world stop investing money in stupid businesses stop killing innocent people teach kids to respect the natureUnfortunately, I agree. I've seen this on TV a couple times. Instead of running protests and futile sit-ins like the olden days, the youth have turned to the internet to show their power and their message. It's been hacked. So what? The Texas Lotto Commission's site got hacked and that pissed people off. If the sites don't take the time to implement a lot of security, this happens. Heh.
  21. I saw it last week on The Screen Savers... The decimal clock (on that first link) is pretty wierd. You might want to give it a look. lol....
  22. The tools are getting better. But some of the potential users don't have a firm grasp on usage of them...
  23. Heh. Illusion of Gaia and Actraiser. At least I know about them. A lot of SNES games on your list.... And you took most of my choices. (Earthbound, Chrono Trigger/Cross, Secret of Mana, Street Fighter, and so on.) Hm.. I've ended up going to the PC now, because the console market is all about graphics now. I have a Gameboy Advance, just to make up for the lack of 2D games. Not saying that I don't like 3D console games, but my best console times are remembered on the NES, SNES, and Sega Genesis. Here's what I'm going to have to add; mostly because I've wasted many hours of my life with some of these games: Final Fantasy III (US--IIRC, it was VI in Japan.) Rogue Squadron (I and II) Megaman X 1-5 (ahh... 2D side-scrollers on a PSX...) Dance Dance Revolution (heh. this is only in by the fact that they released a PSX version of it and floormat pads.) Halo I might have more later.
