I went in expecting an interesting drama on science-vs-religion and I got pretty much exactly what I was expecting. They've definately been selling this movie to the wrong crowd and I think it's really going to piss some folks off (The Village, anyone?). It's very good for what it is, even if it's categorically not so much a "scary movie". Not quite DVD-worthy, however, as I don't think I'd ever really get the hankerin' to want to see it again. Here's to waiting for Paul Shrader's Exorcist prequel "Dominion" on Oct 25th! 7/10

WHAT WHAT!?!? Serious Oscar-caliber cinema here... and I generally don't like Nicholas Cage. What a bloody marvelous movie. The acting, cinematography, editing, writing... superb. If Lord of War dosn't walk away with one or more golden statues this year it'll be a friggin crime. 10/10 There's a lot of psychological detail in the writing that all the actors manage to portray magnificently. It's an excellent moral and personal drama... and it also mangages to be artistic, informative, insightful, and entertaining all at once.

On my list of movies I have to see as soon as school gets out this week. It's friggin hell week here as I spend every waking second working or working on projects. Aie. This is supposed to be really really good, oscar-material type stuff. Between this, Lord of War, and Emily Rose, it's gonna be a busy fun-filled Saturday! Can't wait!

I believe this movie was made on a $1 million budget and was originally supposed to be a straight-to-TV movie. Those things considered, they did a pretty good job. SciFi should have snapped this up early on just to prove that they can make movies that don't completely suck.

I said I'd never subscribe again, I didn't say I'd never watch it. There are many paths to HBO in this age of Tivo. Ie: Friend still has it.

There was a movie in limited release by The Descent. Supposed to be much better than The Cave and very similar story/setting. Never got to see it, though, as it just didn't play anywhere nearby.

Geez - this kind of wonton and gratuitous gore and nudity can't even be shown at the movies any more. I'm most definately not complaining... it's about time someone went all out to do things the right way. I'm a little bothered by the british accents and the fact that their latin pronunciation is complete crap (it's keekero not sisero, dammit) but I'll get over it (the accents at least). The first episode definately left me wanting more, and it seems that Season 1 will be self-contained... meaning if Season 2 never happens, no hard feelings. This show did cost $100 million, after all. Oh yeah, and Roman soldiers didn't actually wear red, contrary to popular belief. Nevertheless, there seems to be plenty of political intrigue and backstabbing to keep things interesting for a while. 8/10

As a self-proclaimed Gilliam-worshipper I expected I would be defending this in lieu of very mediocre reviews. But yeah... I guess not. It's not Gilliam's fault. The script is rubbish, Matt Damon, the cg is terrible (cgwerewolflooksatthecameraandgrowls), and the editing is... well it definately wasn't Gilliam at the Avid station. *sigh* Still, kids will enjoy it. It's like the darker classic Disney stuff I grew up with (Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, etc). Not as good as Lemony Snicket or Baron Munchausen, but still decent enough. At any rate, I don't plan on buying the DVD. 5/10

If they go heavy on the Equilibreum and don't fall into The Island trap, then it could be good. Looks like there's enough style - just needs the substance to go along with it. I'm actually looking forward to it.

FYI, the version of the game they had at E3 was complete crap. On the other hand, the trailers look extremely promising... But I'm inclined to take a developer's word over a publisher's any day... especially in light of the way JoWood's statements are carefully worded. I hope Perception takes JoWood to the dog house with this one.

I plotted out the entire story for The Others and The Sixth Sense within the first 5mins, so that's not saying much. I've been waiting for a Louisiana-themed horror flick for a while (it's so ripe and yet neglected!) so I'm interested in this. Of course, I much appreciate a movie with a very effective mood control instead of gimmick jumps and a twist ending. So is this more Amityville Horror (A+ creepy horror) or is it more The Grudge (rubbish gimmick horror)? Statistically PG13 means the latter, which is why I havn't bothered to see this yet.

The problem, nomad, is that this "historical epic" was two and a half hours of Alexander flirting with guys. Had it been handled politically it might have worked great as part of a "grand historical epic"... which the movie was NOT. It was a big 'ol gay romance that just happened to have people charging around on horses a couple times. No, this was more of a political platform than a balanced or accurate historical epic. As for Vin Diesel playing Hannibal (it seems he is also directing)... oh god, no.

I have to admit, Grayfox, that's a DAMN good movie pitch. I'd be glad to help. Any recommended reading material?

Nope all the gay pseudoporn is still in there but it's been toned down significantly. They fixed some of the terrible action sequences, though (especially the ridiculous ending). It's definately a better movie but that dosn't say much. Alexander still comes across as a pussy about as capable of leading an army as Depp's Willy Wonka. It just has too many inherent flaws to save. Original 1/10 Directos 4/10 Here's hoping Baz Luhrman does the subject justice (if that is actually what he is working on, as rumors suggest).

So I just rented this despite having experienced the exercise in cinematic masochism that was the theatrical release. They actually cut 18mins from the film, so I'm hoping the gay porn quotient is significantly lower this time around. I'm putting it on at 8:00pm pst. If you've already seen it, you have until then to stop me.

Horrendous overacting, absurd plot, and lots of explosions... it is, however, better than most SciFi Channel Original Movies... and there's lots of explosions. Did I mention the explosions? 6/10

Looks like a fun flick.
