quote:I agree that marriage is a powerful thing, and need honesty and trust to survive. Seems to me that is what is lacking....Honesty and trust is what love needs; marriage is just one possible consequence of love, although marriage is also potentially independent of love as love is independent of marriage. Loveless marriages (particularly those that emerge from formerly lovely marriages) exist, and they can last a long time despite the unhappiness that it can bring to the couple. This is when circumstance keeps them together, children being the frequent example. This is not my opinion of the current scenario (I have no opinion on this yet), it's just my general idea of what may be relevant. [ 02-05-2002, 20:33: Message edited by: Menchise ]

There are three Commodore antiques in my house (they sure made great stuff). 1. Commodore PC 10-II. This one is older than I am! While cleaning out a messy room, I found myself leafing through its manual which would make a great museum piece. It was written back in the day when manufacturers didn't assume that everyone had seen a computer before. It even had descriptions of parts of the keyboard, like the Caps Lock key! 2. Commodore 64. 'Nuff said. 3. Amiga 500. In my opinion, this is the best home computer ever made. Imagine 256 colour graphics, 640X480 resolution, and digitized sound effects in 1987! Its OS GUI (Amiga Workbench) came on one floppy disk, ran on 1 MB RAM, optional hard disk installation, and included a text-to-speech synthesizer that rivals even today's $100 packages. The computer ran the latest Amiga games for six years without upgrades, and it never broke down (although the monitor did once or twice). I would still be using it if I still had the cables. I miss the Amiga. *sigh*

quote:Who could argue against that?Me! Me! Just because it doesn't mention wrapping paper, doesn't mean that the gifts weren't wrapped. If that were the case, then the fact that the Book of Matthew doesn't mention what type of clothing the men were wearing means that they were naked. Next!

quote:CSS heavy sites may have some problems being shown.I maintain two sites that are fairly heavy on CSS and Opera 6 runs them very well. How the CSS is processed also depends on how much detail the author provides in the CSS properties. It's wise to be as specific as possible. The only thing about Opera that I really don't like is the email client interface. Putting the Hotlist in a separate window was a bad idea, not to mention separate windows for Inbox, Sent Items etc., and there's no progress indicators when checking email. quote:My point is that gift-wrapping is one of those skills -- like having babies -- that come more naturally to women than to menCop-out. Gift wrapping takes practice; it's not a gender thing. I used to be totally pathetic at wrapping gifts, now I'm only slightly pathetic. Practice, man, practice!

MCGR's first review is online.

I don't get it. The review text seems to pan the game, yet the final rating is 72. *shrugs shoulders*

Hehe, the guys at Lancers Reactor were biting their finger nails off waiting for that update (it was the first in two months). quote:I think BCM's graphic engine far surpasses whatever engine their using. Take this in- game screen shot for example. The planet in the background bites when compared to the ones in BCM.That's an old screenshot. The texture is probably a placeholder.

The first gaming scandal of 2002. I wonder what the next one will be.

SimTower review sent.Reading... quote:I can also do Master of Orion II, Caesar II, and Civ II.Civ II is not on the Readers' List. quote:BTW, do you only plan on reviewing older games?Well, most of the games I have played are older games. The most recent (in terms of their release dates) are BCM, Gabriel Knight 3, and System Shock 2. The majority of my purchases in the past year have been collections of game series. Want to write a review for MCGR? No? Well, anyway, you can now! I'm also looking for some feedback on the new rating system (no more percentages, numbers, or stars!). [ 01-28-2002, 22:42: Message edited by: Menchise ]

Newtonian Physics vs. the SC's Physics
Menchise replied to Thomas Braun's topic in Battlecruiser Series
The motivation for having Newtonian physics in a game should not be for the mere sake of having it in a game, because the game needs to be fun. If space sims were genuinely realistic, then apart from what's happening inside your ship's structure, there wouldn't be any sound effects because sound doesn't travel in space. Imagine Star Wars without the laser blasts, explosions, and engine noise. Such physics should only be included if they add something positive to the experience (the lack of sound in 2001: A Space Odyssey was a smart move). The only game I have played that has properly balanced physics with gameplay to make a fun experience is Independence War, then there are those fun games that add a little bit of physics to make the space combat more tactical (eg the Shelton Slide in Wing Commander). The reason why combat games that use comprehensively realistic space physics are extremely rare is because nobody really knows what space combat would be like, thus it is not only difficult to make such a realistic game fun, it would also be difficult to make it realistic. -
I think that kind of behaviour only applies to soccer fans (there is more than one football code in Europe), and it happens in South America as well. Reputedly, the worst European soccer fans in this regard are the British, especially when they're in another country.

Signs you've been playing BCM too much...

You send your OC to the mechanic because the wheels aren't spinning. You fly a shuttle to New York and wonder where the cab drivers went.
