  1. Just for the record, I occasionally find that some demo discs are a bit niggly sometimes. I had real problems installing a Thief II demo once, it told me I didn't have enough disc space too, but I knew full well I had well over 1GB at the time. Emmett is sending me the PCZone demo disc, I have 15.4 GB free disc space, so we'll see. Just two points, from a newbie point of view, some of your comments are a tad patronising sometimes SC ('I doubt it'), not everyone here is a top game designer and BC:M is going to be MASSIVE and I have the utmost respect for all the time, effort and money you are putting into the project. However, some of your comments can leave a unpleasant taste in the mouth. Some of us (like me) probably know little about computers, but just about enough to be a danger to themselves and others. And daagon, chill out with the 'shitty' comments. I know it can be really frustrating sometimes, but there's little point in getting arsey over the whole thing. Just my SFr 2 worth (yes, Switzerland can be pricey sometimes). [ 05-29-2001: Message edited by: Paddy Gregory ]
  2. Sounds like he spent more time wanking than playing games. Maybe he should sue God?
  3. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: This is a game of my creation, not a game of a TV show. Did I ever say it was? I only referred to Space, Above and Beyond because that's the kind of role which would appeal to me. Ease up SC. What I'm trying to say is, it would be interesting to have dynamic characters as well as the dynamic universe. For example, everyone chooses a race, that's all. from there you decide, military academy for such a career, or University to become a medic, scientist, diplomat etc. As you proceed through a military career, you go through several roles (marine, pilot etc) until you become a commander. But because you've been through the necessary training you can also hitch up with the grunts (with the necessaary equipment) or have a go at dogfighting, as will be possible anyway. Then, if you become disillusioned with the whole military thing, resign, take a sabbatical or simply steal a fighter and just go AWOL. Get work as a mercenary, do a bit of piracy or just explore and trade. Hell, go back to Uni and become a Biochemist (mmm, sounds TOO familiar) if you really want to. Anyway, wishful thinking probably. It's just what I'd like to see in a Sim/RPG/FPS hybrid. SC, what next after GCO? Retirement? More games? Cos I've had a great idea for a game knocking around for years (but then haven't we all?) Peace Paddy
  4. Wha was this moved here, I thought it had been deleted? The answer to my question about ships and ranks has already been answered, I'm now looking for an explanation as to why you can't have a multi-role character as described above. Thanks

  6. Mmmmmm, OK. Why can't a Commander suit up as a marine? So is there a caste in which you can fly space and/or planetary fighters AND go on marine-type missions? I'm thinking along the lines of Space, Above and Beyond here (I can't believe they only made on series), where you are a pilot and marine all rolled into one. I'd love a scenario where you attack an enemy planet, set the BC to take out the orbiting defenses, while you hop into a fighter and take out a few for your own personal pleasure. Once the area is clear, escort your marines to the planets surface, do a few strafing/dogfighting runs, then land and join the jarheads in a fragging spree. Possible? Yay or Nay? Edit: OK, I've read the assets page, so I've sort of answered my own questions. [ 05-23-2001: Message edited by: Paddy Gregory ]
  7. Ok, thanks. That answers the first part of my question. Now what about the second?
  8. Having never played BC3000AD I am curious as to how people in the community acquire their rank, ship names etc which appear in their sigs. Do you choose your own or is it assigned to you by the game? It probably seems like a silly question to all you vets, but I'm just curious. Oh another thing, if I deploy ground troops in BCM, being the Rambo I am (not) can I join them in a firefight? I think I'd get a bit frustrated watching them from afar. Lost DNA

It is indeed sad, sad news. He was a very brilliant man. The hitchikers books were probably best known, but did anyone read the Dirk Gently books? They are an excellent read and I actually enjoyed them more than the hitchiker trilogy God bless you DNA (shame he didn't have a son called Richard Neville.........think about it)
  10. Am I correct in thinking that EB have the exclusive rights to sell BCM for the 1st 3 months? If so what about us poor souls in Europe, where EB stores are few and far bwtween, if they exist at all? I know it is possible to pre-order from EB and they will send it, but $30+ for shipping?!?! When will the game eventually be available in Europe? (Or would some kind soul like to buy me a copy when it comes on the market and send the CD and manual for <$10?) Paddy
  11. 27? A mere babe in arms.
  12. I have a 66MHz mobo with 96MB PC100 SDRAM (which worls fine btw), I'm just wondering if should keep an eye out for PC100 or just buy some PC133. Seems to be a lot of contradictory information regarding mixing memory speeds. What do you guys think?
  13. There are different kinds of Country? Oh god help us all. Anyway, while I'm awaiting the demo, just a couple of questions: These are my specs, do I have a good cahnce of running the game at a decent resolution? Celeron 633 Voodoo5 5500 SBlive! 1024 Voice Win98SE Dx 8.0 96MB RAM I will probably up the RAM if I have to (been meaning to for a while now, difficult getting hold of PC100 though) Secondly, any release date for Europe? Cheers, Paddy
  14. quote:Originally posted by pkzip: Paddy, what are you going to do when multiplayer BCM comes around? Never mind, one stupid question this week is enough. I won't bother, I hardly ever play anything online. I'm not interested to be quite honest, as well as the obvious monetary restrictions (not to mention the wife, kids, studies etc etc). I very rarely play anything for hours on end, maybe at the weekends into the wee small hours sometimes, but that's all. So, you're in Nashville eh? God, I sincerely hope you're not a Country fan.

  16. quote:Originally posted by Emmett.hendrick: Paddy thats like asking whats the difference between chalk and cheese BC is a completely different games, BC is a much larger scope of a game and the amount of freedom you have is imense(and somewhat overwhelming), the closest I can describe is Elite but that even pales in comparison. I kinda gathered that, I think. I always like the 'get down and dirty' aspect of sims, but I always wanterd a bit more. How much emphasis is placed on the dog-fighting and how much on the command aspect? Or is entirely up to you (ie that's how deep it is) as to how you play it? I love my sims and shooters, but always felt them a little 'empty' sometimes (except Deus Ex and FS2). I get bored very quickly with RTS games and have only ever finished one, too much planning and strategy for my liking. A compromise between the two would suit me down to the ground, and I hope BCM will deliver the goods. Am I asking too much, or is this what BCM is all about?
  17. Man, do those all hit a raw nerve, except like Emmet, my 3 and 1.5 year-old daughters aren't embarrassed yet. Except the 3 year-old corrected my French once! Who's embarrassed now? It's funny, you come into this world, you drink, throw up and piss and shit yourself constantly. Go out and celebrate your 30th now and realise things haven't changed that much in 30 years.
  18. Ok guys, first of all, chill out a bit! Paddy doesn't like people getting all shitty for his benefit. pkzip, I do not have a free server, or free local connections, therefore I would have to pay quite a bit for a @6-7hr phone call, even overnight (hence, 3rd world) and being a graduate student, money is one thing I don't have a great deal of (trying to save up for BCM y'see). Also, I had Getright, but it kept crashing out on me and the only large download I did with resumptions etc was completely screwed and wouldn't even extract properly. Therefore I'm pretty sceptical about long downloads. I'm not in any great hurry to play it, and am quite willing to be patient and hang out for snailmail. SteveM, sorry I didn't reply to your PM, I forgot to take my log-in password home at the w/e. Someone in Ireland is already sending me the demo from PCZone, but thanks for the offer anyway. I have played quite a few space sims, Freespace 1 & 2, all the X-wings, one of the Wing Commanders, Starlancer, Tachyon etc. What will be different about BCM? Will the 1st person aspects be as good as a top-flight FPS? I can't wait to take out some planetary defences, land my ship, then take on some meanies face to face. For me, this switching from sim to shooter is the most revolutionary aspect of the game, if it is done well. Will you be able to get out of your ship and inspect the damage yourself? For example, if your engines took a nasty hit, will you nacelles be smoking and fire-damaged? I've never played any of the Battlecruiser series, so I am totally unfamiliar with the command aspects of the game. I wait in eager anticipation........
  19. Unfortunately, neither PCZone or PC Gamer are available in the 3rd world (ie Switzerland). Would it be really out of order to ask someone to send me their demo-disc (once they've finished with it of course)? I will send it back on request. Come on chaps, help out a desperate ex-pat here.
  20. Being a poor soul with only a 56kps modem, It'll take me for ever to download the demo for BCM. Is there anywher I can find out in advance which UK/German mags will have it on their demo cds? Failing that, anyone wanna make me a copy and send it? (Probably not, does that violate copyright?) I'm looking forward to this game so much, as I've always dreamt of a game which combines my 2 favourite genres, FPS and Space sim. I hope it's a good as they promise. Also, any idea on a release date in Europe? Thanks in advance for you help.
