Has anyone but me noticed that most of the proverbial "newbies" chose UCV? Even me. Anyhow, this was just an observation... ...and eventually, those GalCom and Insurgent fleets will be outnumbered! (C'mon, a guy can have wishful thinking... )

Nebula combat in Klingon Academy is probably the most annoying and least useful feature available. It drops your shields, and you can't target other ships. But other ships seem to have an uncanny edge when it comes to targetting you (or the ships you're trying to protect). Other than that, it's not a bad game, though I wouldn't consider it a necessarily good game either. Lots of features that were hacked in favour of an earlier release date (sound familiar? )... (Actually, I wrote an Epinion on it. I don't even remember what I wrote. ) [ 06-11-2001: Message edited by: Spuzzum ]

Heck, you don't need a laser. Just sunlight, a south-facing window, and a watch. Move your wrist as desired, and watch the kitty go. (When I had two cats, they would fight each other for pouncing rights. ) [edited] Well, in Australia, you'd need a north-facing window. But I digress. [ 06-11-2001: Message edited by: Spuzzum ]

quote:Originally posted by Maxamillian: Do you really think that the SC would make "The" game easy for you, boy are you new to the BC world.... Problem with that was that ships could still be blown up too easily in the old version... not other ships, mind you, but your own ship. I couldn't even take on an armed transport by myself without losing a huge portion of my shields, if not all of them and half of my integrity. If he made the demo purposefully easy, I'm still worried, because that's WAY too easy. Think of it this way; you have an easy game and you make it easier and it will be really easy. The demo is INCREDIBLY easy. Of course, I have no doubts in the SC's playbalancing strategy. He'll probably make it nice and fun. Heck, in the demo I tried to take on an 'aestrom' and was beaten silly with its PTA. (In fact, my cargo bay blew up and I lost everything. That made me mad. ) I guess I'm just making sure that the final version will present a challenge. And I hope those enemy ships will learn how to point and shoot with their main guns...!

quote:Originally posted by Epsilon 5: [QB]Seriously, the battles in BCM are too short lived. You get shot down too easily, and you shoot down the enemy too easily. And in the warmonger mission, I bring down a station in 10 seconds but I only get half my shield down. woaaaa...[QB] While I do agree and I am, after all, the original supporter of this topic... ...isn't the Warmonger mission the one where you're supposed to protect the station? Yeah, I know, you're talking about the Gammulan stations, but it's still an ambiguous statement.

Only some missiles (Vagrants, Ralixes, and Questors, I believe) have telemetry data. And no, I don't think you can switch between them, though I might be wrong.

quote:Originally posted by Issaqua: & can you put support for 6 axis in aswell? 6 axis? I think there's only a limit of 5 axes in modern technology; On jet/propeller aircraft, 4 axes: pitch (stick), yaw (rudder pedals), roll (stick), throttle (throttle control). On helicopters, 5 axes: main rotor collective pitch (collective pitch column), tail rotor throttle (rudder pedals), main rotor throttle (lever on collective pitch column), main rotor forward tilt (stick), main rotor sidewise tilt (stick). I don't think it's possible to have six... then again, I could be wrong.

Well, even though Klingon Academy wasn't the greatest game of all time (or even a great game), I absolutely loved how long battles took; capital ships, brimming with weapons, would dive and collapse onto each other and launch a massive volley of weapons. The other ship, of course, would just sit there, look at the attacker, laugh, and say "Is that all you've got?!" Though BC3000 and BCM are far from comparable to KA (in a good sense, that is), I'm just wondering why ships are so easy to destroy in this game... I mean, I can launch a salvo of full-power beams at a starstation and knock it apart in the span of 20 seconds. And if another ship doesn't move, I can blow it up in even less time. (What's more, I find that I'm constantly outmaneuvering the enemies and blasting them to bits without my shields getting a dent in them.) Would lasers and weapons be toned down? While I'm all for mass-destruction, I think ship vs. ship is much too easy. Of course, that's just me, and if other people disagree, I'll take back this statement. =)

[RP] 10:23 hrs, May 12, 3008 Earth, Sol GALCOM-HQ "What do you mean?" Colson asked. In actuality, Colson well-understood what the Mandorian told him, but he didn't like what he had heard. "Sorry, officer. No can do." "All I'm asking for is a supply of Vagrants," Colson continued. The Mandorian centred his eyes onto Colson, saying, "I don't have to repeat myself, do I, sir?" Colson narrowed his eyes. "The Tradcom says you have a huge supply of Vagrants. I want five. That's all. No more, no less." The Mandorian blinked. "Unfortunately, the Vagrants are under temporary confiscation. An LRT-15 that docked here a few minutes ago stole a whole bunch of 'em and hi-tailed it out to Jupiter." The Mandorian grabbed the nutripak that had been sitting on the desk. He consumed it, looked at Colson, and left the room. Colson stared at the vacant seat. *** 10:30 hrs, May 12, 3008 Earth, Sol UCV-Razorback Colson growled. Now, not only had he made an enemy with a Raider group, but he had also been tricked by a Trader. "Roman, bring us out to Jupiter. I want that bugger's reactor in my cargo bay." Duped by someone who was about to get ripped to shreds. What a wonderful galaxy it was. [/RP] Hee hee, sneaky little traders. [ 06-01-2001: Message edited by: Spuzzum ]

I wonder how long I have to wait until this moves another 15 minutes. -
This piqued my curiosity, but I haven't played quite long enough to verify or disprove this for myself. Do cloaked ships give off intermittent sensor pings? I.e. if you stare at your radar long enough, is it possible to get a quick little indication of where the baddie is? (Not saying that this is really all too relevant to the original subject of this thread. ) [edit] I might add, I've seen the static. I knew what it was from the manual, too. But I was wondering if the sensors briefly pick up the ship or not. If not, that cloaking system really is something! [ 05-31-2001: Message edited by: Spuzzum ]

I realise that I'm using a Questar in my signature, but I'm fairly certain that that doesn't actually mean anything; that is, I haven't actually chosen that asset, I'm just saying that's what I have... How am I supposed to go about selecting which ship I use for the Fleet page? (And my launch base, et cetera?)

I know you support three-axis joysticks... that is, having pitch, yaw, and throttle. But I was curious as to whether my brand-spanking new joystick's twist-handle can be used to control the roll of my ship. So... is it possible? (I can hack it, of course, by setting up Wingman Profiler to read those twists as keypresses, but it'd be nice to have built-in...) I might add, brilliant job on the joystick support! It works flawlessly. I also absolutely love the throttle maximum with the number keys. Prevents me from overshooting my target! And at the higher speeds, my throttle is very touchy, so it helps to set a maximum with the number keys and then to compensate for slower velocities.

I heard that Red Faction is supposed to a be a really "kewl" game (quoting someone who I'd rather not quote. =) My friends recommend it, too. But, I'd rather trust the word of a bunch of total strangers than of my friends, so... Has anyone here tried it? What are your thoughts? I might buy it at some point, if I need to, or if the man upstairs forces me to. (My landlord can be persuasive at times. ) (In case you didn't catch it, that last paragraph was a joke. But you probably caught it. )

quote:Originally posted by Spuzzum: If destroying a ship is really wrong, an officer should be able to tow a trader to a GalCom station, and then the goods will be confiscated, the trader will be fined, and the police officer will be credited. quote:Originally posted by Soback: because you can always disable the other ship (wait for a sos signal) and then tow it to the station. That answers that one, but if the trader is carrying illegal goods, I think the officer should get more points. Towing a ship just gives you a small boost in credits, as far as I know... but if you towed a ship carrying illegal goods, you would get credits AND a confiscation bonus. Just my thoughts, anyway! (I was referring to both BCM and GCO, by the way.)

Take that, Nintendo! Actually, I do resent that remark, Ultima VII: The Black Gate is my favourite non-linear RPG of all time. Origin has made some pretty lame screw-ups, though. Ah, well. It's pretty funny. But everyone knows that college students masturbate at FIVE different intervals, not four.

Coincidentally, I managed to coincide a coincidental purchase of a coincidentally better joystick to match up with the coincidental date that it should be coincidentally arriving. What a coincidence!

What's SC's policy on suggestions? (Besides the fact that he'll usually ignore them? No offense intended, of course! ) Anyway, since I'd be nuked with a R.A.N.D.O.M. if I posted this in the wrong forum, I decided I'd post it here, as a newbie, and say I didn't know any better... There's only three suggestions, and each of them follow my career choice: Suggestion the First: If a police officer brings illegal items to a GalCom station, when they are confiscated the officer should be credited for turning in illegal goods. The credit, of course, would be much less than the actual sale price of those items (otherwise the police could load up on illegal items and get credited to his heart's content). Suggestion the Second: If a police officer attacks and destroys a trader carrying illegal items, he shouldn't get a violation, assuming an officer CAN get a violation. If destroying a ship is really wrong, an officer should be able to tow a trader to a GalCom station, and then the goods will be confiscated, the trader will be fined, and the police officer will be credited. Suggestion the Third: This isn't a very likely suggestion since boarding won't be implemented as of BCM, but if a police officer boards another vessel, all illegal items should be transported to the player's vessel. Anyway, feel free to point out the rules if I've broken them. But I really haven't been hovering around much until now, so I don't know where they are, if there are any.

[RP] 10:15 hrs, May 12, 3008 UCV-Razorback, Bridge Colson blinked. And then blinked again. He had just entered the Earth region. As the data filled the viewscreen, he wasn't sure how to interpret the information; carnage, or a massacre. Two Raider Spacestars were tearing apart an LRT-15 transport. "What in sam hell?" Colson asked, though his bridge crew were just as surprised as he was. "Roman, hit the hyperdrive and fly us above the transport." "Yes, sir." Roman Louisi, a corporal in the Police Academy, and well-trained at that, thumbed the button with ease as he guided the ship to a stop, and made it fly out of realspace. Roman cared little about his own free will, and would gladly die to stand up for someone who was oppressed. Instants later, the Razorback flung itself out of hyperspace, immediately in front of a salvo of IOD fire from one of the Spacestars. As the Razorback weathered a few beams rather harmlessly, it launched a volley of beams at the source. But before a battle could break out, the cruisers ceased fire. "Rena, put that trader ship in a tractor." She complied. "Sir," she said, "the Raiders are hailing us." "Well, by all means, put 'em through." The face appeared on screen. A very angry face. In fact, an very angry and very ugly face. "What the hell do you think you are doing?! This ship is carrying a supply of goods stolen from our benefactors!" Colson tapped the console. "No, it isn't. In fact, it's quite empty." Rena glanced at her console as well. "Sir, they're acquiring us. Looks like they're trying to be sneaky about it, too." Colson sat and waited, staring into the face of the Raider commander. He was still rambling on about how the ship Colson was covering was involved in numerous amounts of Insurgent trading runs, and where it had subsequently picked up a drop-off that was intended for the end of a "gang war". And that was assuming that Colson cared, or even wanted to care. Colson had had enough. He activated the PTA, and the beams lanced out from the Razorback at the two enemy targets simultaneously. Less than a second later, the FO hit the hyperdrive, and as the beams from the Raider ships coalesced around his fading ship, they did nothing; the Razorback was already in nilspace. Colson smiled. The Raider ships wouldn't dare to come any closer than they already were to GalCom HQ. Five GalCom fighters were already speeding on their way towards the Raiders. The Raider commander growled through the still-open communiqu├®. "You'll regret that." The image fuzzed as the Spacestars exited the system, and then the face vanished entirely. [/RP] I like my posts clean and crisp. Like my lettuce. Oh, wait. [ 05-24-2001: Message edited by: Spuzzum ]

You know what'd be cool? If BC:M shipped with a nice shiny little BC3K 2.0 CD bundled inside... Heh, just kidding. ...Well, then again... I've been keeping tabs on the Battlecruiser series since '96, but haven't really been involved until now. And, I also missed out on a chance to get BC3K 2.0. It was in stores... and then it wasn't. If it had a 2.0 CD in it, I'd definitely buy it! (Well, I'm gonna buy it anyway, but that's beside the point. ) Just wishful thinking though. Besides, it'd cost that much more to make a bunch of CDs that half of the people would give away.
