  2. Hmm. I tried downloading the non-accelerated version and it worked. I was browsing around this afternoon. Guess it was their software...
  3. quote:Originally posted by Cmdr Nova: I'm thinking of being police. I wonder if I can do some undercover investigations (rpg idea)? That would be so cool. And that would make the rpg's a lot more complicated and the plots thicker. As a GalCom or Insurgent, you're somewhat limited in scope to military duties. ...If you choose to be independent, a large world opens up, but you don't have so much support lying ahead of you. As a cop, you can do whatever you darned well feel like, so long as you do your job at least once in a while. However, if you're not a cop, you can do whatever you want, period. But, police also have the added benefit of being able to travel just about everywhere; most races disregard police as targets. I'm not sure if I'd encourage being a police officer or not, though... I haven't had a chance to try it out yet! I walk the walk and talk the talk, but do I do the dew?
  4. Hmm, not that this has much of a relevance to the current direction of this thread, but I tried two times, without success, to download and install Active Worlds. I double-click the icon, my hard drive processes a bit, and then the wonderful windows Close Program box comes up saying the install program is Not Responding. Anyone have any clues why? I tried both the download off of the Files section of this site, and the Active Worlds page itself. Neither worked.

quote:Originally posted by Blades: Ok, so I didnt tell you the plot. Im not sure If I could using words. Just go read it or watch it. Wow, I don't even remember when I saw that movie. Probably when I was too young to remember. And I probably had my head buried in a pillow when the "bad parts" came along. Heck, I don't even remember the movie itself. I probably should go watch it again to get a refresher.
  6. quote:The 6th axis allows you two fast forward through the space/time continuum. Am I the only one that knows that?? Oh, OH! The 6th axis! I thought he said the 60th axis! Hee hee.
  7. quote:Originally posted by aramike: Oh yeah, the Insurgents and all their military might is afraid of the cops. ??? Um, not sure where you got that implication. I said and implied no such thing.
  8. Well, I'll act like the SC on this one. quote:How much POWER will BCM GBS have. Can we change the gravity on the planets? Yes. quote:Can we make new planets, new jump point, Yes. quote:new weapons? No. quote:Can we change the items around? Er, I'll have to get SC to answer that one. Not sure what you mean entirely. But referring to ship loadouts, Yes. quote:Can we affect the core stuffs: like making gravity in outer space? No. Hope I'm right, and hope that helps. [ 06-18-2001: Message edited by: Spuzzum ]
  9. Oh, wait, I found my source! Straight from the BC3K manual... In an effort to save face, the UFN officially declared the Insurgents an outlaw organisation in 2965. Keyword there, "outlaw". Guess I read it wrong, though...
  10. quote:Originally posted by Menchise: I know that players can attack what they want, but as far as I know, the Police have no established imperative to attack Insurgents. Hmm, my sources are apparently flawed. Thought I remembered seeing that somewhere. (One other thing that led me to that conclusion was that police, typically, have been rather opposed to civil disturbances... and the Insurgents are a rather big civil disturbance, from GalCom's point-of-view.) "Every alien nation has its own police force operating within their regions. This caste attacks raiders and criminals only. Attacking this caste causes you to be attacked by them each time you enter a region controlled by police castes of the alien nation you attacked. In this manner, even if the Terrans are friends of the Empirians, attacking an Empirian police caste will result in your ship being attacked each time you enter the region. To relax the rules a little and address gameplay issues, as long as the player does not destroy the caste, on exit from the region all will be forgotten and the incident treated as an accident." Well, if I don't have Insurgents red, all the more ease of my duties!
  11. quote:Originally posted by Fendi: If your a cop would you arrest me if I was drunk flying? That means I can't even play BCM or GCO with a can of beer anymore! Depends. There's a lot of room on that road in the sky, but drinking and piloting impairs your better judgement. So... only if you're coming closing to ramming another ship.
  12. quote:Thats odd. They should be dead and listed as such in the CSD. Unless you happened to look at it before it was updated. Well... I don't know what to say... I'll see if I can launch another attack on Wayfarer and see what happens when and if my fighter is blown away. But after several minutes, both were definitely not dead. Maybe I should've checked Perscan... Both pilots had a reduced life factor when I looked at Tactical|Crew. One had around 58 and the other had something like 49. So whatever happened, they got hurt in the process. (If they can launch into escape pods, that's probably what happened. ) quote:FC = Fighter Craft OC = Other Craft e.g. ATV, CAV etc SC = Shuttle Craft Other Craft! Doh! I knew the other two (well, I figured they were 'complement', but either word makes sense). Thanks, though. [ 06-17-2001: Message edited by: Spuzzum ]
  13. quote:Originally posted by Epsilon 5: Yep, but police people have insurgents red in the scanners. I can thank GalCom for that one. I'm afraid it is my orders to attack Insurgents. While I will do just that, I won't make it a goal, or even a favoured target. In fact, if I see an Insurgent going somewhere, I'll probably just ignore them unless they head my way. If they do head my way... well, orders are orders!
  14. [RP] 23:22, May 16, 3008 Jupiter, Sol UCV-Razorback, Officers' Quarters Colson lay on his couch. He preferred it to the bed; the bed was much too soft. It was nice to lie down on now and again, but he hated the absolute luxury. The couch, essentially, was "baby bear's bed". Not too hard, not too soft, but just right. He rolled over and closed his eyes, tugging up the tin and foam mesh blanket over him sleepily. *BEEP* He opened his eyes at the sound of his quarter's door alert. He lied prone, waited, and ignored it. *BEEP* "Go away!" he yelled. "Sir, it's me, Rena," came the muffled voice from the other side. Colson sat up rather quickly, having a dizzy rush as he swatted rather helplessly at the button on the wall to let her in. As the door slipped open, Rena glanced over at him. She looked a little surprised at first, but started to speak. "Um, I've got something I have to..." Colson interrupted her. "Dammit, Rena, how long have you been up?" "...er, uh, around 26 hours, why?" "Don't you think its time you've got some rest?" "Um, uh, I can't rest, I've got too many things to do." "Rena, we're on a ship, with 10 marines, and 10 engineers, and you have to do all of the petty tasks yourself?" "Well, uh, no." "So go to bed." She sighed. "Uh, sir, I came here to tell you something important." He blinked, and rubbed his eyes. "And that would be what?" He suddenly remembered he was mostly naked, excepting his underwear, and grabbed his robe off the wall sheepishly. She tried to look away as he pulled it on, and said, "Remember those two Warmongers we encountered here a couple days ago?" He slid his arm into the other sleeve. "Yeah." "Those were military ships." He looked at her. "But they said UCV." "Camouflaged IFF signatures." He looked at the floor, and rubbed his eyes a little. "Computer, lights." The room filled, slowly as he had programmed them to, with light. "Anyway, Rena, what does this have to do with us?" "Well, it could've been EarthCom, or GalCom. EarthCom owns Jupiter, sure, but I think it was GalCom." Colson sighed. "Rena, you still haven't explained to me why this should matter to either of us." "GalCom has done some sneaky things in the past. And this looks like a textbook case." "And...?" "And, that usually means that something illegal is going on. Mercenaries, assassins, smugglers, whatnot. All in the interest of gaining equipment or information." Colson looked at her. "Rena, you look like hell." She blinked. "I hadn't noticed. Anyway, I think we should check it out. Those Warmongers jumped outsystem. I'm suggesting that we go check it out." She handed him the datapad, to which she had copied her conclusive evidence. Colson yawned, touched the button a couple times, and then shut it off. "Sir?" she asked. "Go to bed Rena." "But..." "Don't make me make it an order." "Yes sir. ...But what about that datapad?" "I'll sleep on it. Computer, lights." And with that, he tucked it under the cushion, and slept on it. [/RP] [ 06-26-2001: Message edited by: Spuzzum ]
  15. quote:Originally posted by Epsilon 5: Spuzzum, you can name the warmongers, but you can't name my ship. My ship has no iff signal at all (most of the time) I don't think I named your ship. Did I? I saw the UCV-Dagger's Pommel (Warmonger) and the UCV-Runesque (Warmonger). "They" referred to those ships. Essentially, the other ship (i.e. yours) we didn't even see. Blame it on Rena's inexperience.
  16. I watched on my scanner in horror as my Alinix fighter flew straight into the path of the other ship's missile. After a boom, half of its armour and all of its shields were gone. My attention was diverted with another fighter (who was having a world of fun dodging my lowest power lasers... that is, he wasn't having the best of luck doing it ). Then I looked at my fighter complement, and where FC-1 used to be, there was a red box, rather than a green one. I looked in my Logistix crafts and FC-1 was marked as destroyed. But the pilots, both of 'em, were still alive in the CSD. So my question is, how? And one other thing... what exactly does OC stand for? Orbital Complement? I could never figure that out, since vehicles aren't orbital... anyway, whatever.
  17. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Since that will probably be the last title in the Battlecruiser franchise, its going to be kick-ass. High opinion of it there, but I would be lying if I said I'm not looking forward to it. Anyway, I'm certain it'd be fun. Then again, I've always had a natural aversion of pay-for-play, but that's just me. (BCM! BCM! And, uh, GCO, sometime soon. BCM! BCM! )
  18. Yay! [RP] 23:17, May 16, 3008 Jupiter, Sol UCV-Razorback, Officers' Quarters Colson leaned back in his chair, while tapping the datapad. "Salary for this week." He looked at it, and looked at it again, and smiled. 20000 Galcreds wasn't much, but it was enough. What Colson had really earned was the bounty of a smuggler's vessel... one LRT-15 that appeared a few days ago. And, after dicing a Jenstar, that LRT-15, and three Raider fighters, he felt pretty good. But now was time for a nap, and he had a weak will when it came to relaxation. *** 23:18, May 16, 3008 Jupiter, Sol UCV-Razorback, Library Rena thumbed the monitor on the wall, confused. Those Warmongers... there were no such ships. No UCV-Dagger's Pommel, and no UCV-Runesque. Then it hit her... they weren't UCV. They were camouflaging their IFF... GalCom. EarthCom, possible, but much less likely. No UCV puppies could get their hands on that amount of hardware that easily. Something was up. Rena stood up, and went off to tell the commander that something was amiss. [/RP] Hope no-one minds that I named those Warmongers. If anyone disagrees (I remember something about UCV-NO NAME) I can always edit.
  19. Doo dee doo dee doo... dum dee dee dee dum. La dee da dee da... ho ho ho ho ho... *pauses* Did my mouse just move by itself?! *another pause* Nope. Darn. *another pause* La dee dee dee da... 20. quote:Originally posted by Epsilon 5: Can you order a box, not its content? Or one of those big display boxes? With a really big novelty plastic CD-ROM included? And a gigantic printed manual? ("Hey, mom, we need a bigger hard drive!" "Why's that?" "Because LOOK AT HOW BIG THE GAME IS!!!" ) Ah, okay, so my sense of humour is going haywire. Maybe it's the adrenaline slowly building up due to the pent up anxiety.
  21. I'm eagerly awaiting it! BCM will be better than sex! Hey, wait, I'm still a teenager. Replace the last word with 'a Ferrari'... and don't quote me on it, either. (For some reason, I picture a BCM Cult... people worshipping the game box and offering ritual sacrifices of other space simulations.)
  22. I'm not worried, but I tend to never spend my money until I can have a product in my grubby little hands. Yes, I'll buy the game. Otherwise, this new joystick is a waste of money too. ...But, I never pre-order. Not that I distrust the Supreme Commander, or Electronics Boutique, but rather, I prefer to have an immediate return in my investments. That's even more true when things get delayed... that makes me upset. Besides, AFAIK I'm one of the only, if not the only, Vancouverite on this forum. (Yes, Coquitlam is part of Vancouver. You had to ask, didn't you! Oh, wait, you didn't. ) So, best-case-scenario, there won't be any copies missing from Lougheed Mall's EB when I get there on the 19th. Worst-case, I'll grab one of the last ones. (Hmm, I don't disagree with reservations, though. I'll go do that. Just in case there's something worse than worst-case. )
  23. quote:Originally posted by Jaguar: Watch what you wish for, you just might get it. Okay, I wish I had a million dollars, an extremely shapely girlfriend, and two plane tickets to Bermuda. Seriously, though, I'm a fairly hardcore pilot... I'm not worried, even if it is quite hard. I'd be worried if it was too easy, though. (Sigh, the nuances of post-pubescence... )
  24. [From General Discussion, since that isn't exactly the place to discuss the benefits and drawbacks of the particular castes...] quote:Originally posted by Outlaw: Why don't u try being a merc or assassin? Certainly being a cop isn't more exciting than those 2 castes I mentioned? Think about it. Oh, but you don't realise the subtle nuances... how much fun it would be to fly over top of a world, fly to a mission zone, swoop over a criminal in a meeting, lock a tractor on 'em, and fly back into space. Against the Insurgents, that would be too hard; I'd get blown away. Against GalCom, same deal. My goal, though I do have ICV as a red on my sensors, is not to take down the Insurgency... that's for those GalCommies to do. If I were a merc, there wouldn't be much of a point in having fun with an apprehension, since you'd be hired for combat missions. And an assassin would most likely deal with adversaries on a ship-to-ship scale, or on first-person with a gun. Besides, AFAIK the BCM single-player mercenaries won't have scripts, initially. (Being a proud programmer, MIDI engineer, sound effects recorder, game designer, level designer, and presentation maker, I'll probably sample the world of GBS-II fairly soon after Millenium comes out, anyway. A police script would be first, a merc second, an assassin third, and then whatever the heck I feel like afterward... meanwhile, I'd be seeing which I like most anyway.) Also, as a copper, I have less obligation than even a merc or an assassin; I'm not hired out, or working for an assignment... I'm merely flying through space, helping people out as necessary. And, to put another scoop of ice cream on top of the sundae, I get paid for it. ([rp]Of course, I have the full intention of being an upstanding officer. I'm guessing that I didn't come from LA.[/rp]) [edit] Oh, and I might add, I'm a moderately good artist too. [ 06-12-2001: Message edited by: Spuzzum ]
  25. Matrix BCM! Yeah, I also always thought that gravity was a wee tad too weak. But who cares, anyway?
