What to do if you run out of gas(or Radine)
Apollon replied to R_wilco's topic in Battlecruiser 3000AD (Legacy)
happened to me too, and i also launched the shuttle, but instead of just running to the base to buy radine, i towed the whole BC home. the shuttle┬┤s tractor beam is immensely powerful, and it holds on the BC even when you hyperjump. -
my, my, my, what is this talk ? reminds me of the situation in Mankind (by cryo). i have a clan... sorry, a federal republic ( ) in this game, which i consider to "transplant" into GCO. we┬┤re just some 15 citizens, but i very much doubt that we will join any of the existing fleets, such vultures that you are

when i fire the laser turrets manually, they always tend to fall to "deck level" when i rise them. this makes targeting nearly impossible (except when you shoot at buildings). is this intended ? or do i just have to push some button to make it go away (similar to "decouple" for the IOD) ? and if it is indeed intended, what is it supposed to simulate ? gravity of some sort ? or are the cannons attached to rubber bands ? i promise, i will ask no more questions after this one

how *does* the dreaded TLM work then ?
Apollon replied to Apollon's topic in Battlecruiser 3000AD (Legacy)
ah, alright then. i just interpreted your response as "you don┬┤t need to know how it works, just do the other trick"... sorry. please leave this thread here, so that other newbies won┬┤t waste their time trying to figure it out ;-) i don┬┤t mind if it doesn┬┤t work. i just got mad because it seemed that everyone knew how to do it, except for me; and that no one cared to explain it to me... so, sorry if i wasted your time *again* -
how *does* the dreaded TLM work then ?
Apollon replied to Apollon's topic in Battlecruiser 3000AD (Legacy)
p.s.: i know how to perform this task using waypoints, as i was suggested. but i don┬┤t want to, for 2 reasons: 1. the option to do it through the TLM *does* exist, so why not use it ? unless it actually doesn┬┤t function (then why is it there ?). according to the manual, it *should* work. either the manual is mistaken, or it lacks some vital bit of information. 2. deploying 4 ATVs through the TLM would require 13 clicks. doing the same through TACOPS would require four times as many, and would comsume way more time than through the TLM, time which you may not have in dire situations. -
to transport people: 1. send your crewmembers to the transporter. 2. wait until they get there. 3. go to TACOPS and zoom to the desired location. 4. click on the upper left corner to open the waypoints menu (too many acronyms, i can┬┤t remember the proper one :mad . 5. when your crewmen have arrived in the transporter room, a sign saying "TRANS" will light red. click on it. deploy. but then of course, you can read all about it in the documentation, chapter "TACOPS". ok, this is my one and only, but utterly frustrating problem i have with BC3K. i have asked this on another thread recently, but i received no useful answer (apart from the suggestion that i have to do it the "right way" *doh*). probably the question was a bit out of place, as the thread was on another topic, so here it goes again: the TLM (tactical launch menu) is located to the right of the main view. you can issue orders to your escort ships from there. there are a variety of orders you can issue, some of which work (launch, RTB etc) and some just simply *DON┬┤T* work. EVER. among them are the vital "deploy" and "collect" orders. i want to do some mining, so i launch my 4 shuttles. i click on their icon in the TLM and select "deploy->drone" --- no response. i tell the shuttle to hold first, and then to deploy the drone --- again no result. i go to tactical->launch->shuttle#->deploy drone --- nothing. only when i switch to the shuttle and do it myself if will deploy the dreaded drone. same as above for ATVs. same as above for collecting of drones. fortunately you can order an ATV to RTB, so you don┬┤t have to rely on the shuttle for that. am i the only one who experiences this ? does it work for you ? am i missing something ? is my crew just too stupid to perform those tasks on themselves and do i have for them to gain AI ? what is going on ? like my son, when he puts a lego in his mouth and refuses to open it or spit it out. only way to make him give up the lego is to lure him with candy. perhaps the shuttle needs some persuasion as well *arms the IOD* [ 07-28-2001: Message edited by: Apollon ]

i burned some insurgent bases on earth. as i don┬┤t trust my pilots, i got down there with my battlecruiser. hop into an ATV and take out the SAMs. then you can take care of the bunkers with the BC, while the ICs distract the fighters. there aren┬┤t many of them anyway, just 1 or 2. you get around 100 EPs for each building you destroy. after i burned all the buildings, i recall my ICs and head for GALCOM for repairs. if there are survivors, i spare them. usually some GALCOM marines will appear and assist you, but they aren┬┤t too effective. but take care you don┬┤t kill any of them by mistake. i think that it takes away some EPs if you do.

i quit. your solution worked at first. i even got to load a savegame, but after 10 seconds it crashes to a corrupt, funny colored desktop. from that point my computer is frozen and i have to reset. i did it twice. i now bow to my fate and will leave the dreaded WIN version for those who know how to handle comuters professionally. and i was going to design a whole new bridge graphic... *sob*

here are my top 3: 3. the canyons and odd-shaped mountains of venus 2. the dark side of mercury: black ground with little lakes of lava 1. the rings of uranus it disappointed me however a little that uranus had no thick layer of clouds. the frozen surface should be way, way beneath the outer layer of clouds. i haven┬┤t been outside the sol system yet, so there will probably be more wonders of nature out there.

hmm, my intro.ani is 42.520.576 bytes long, which is a difference of 3.649 bytes from your 42.516.927 ! how┬┤s that possible ? p.s.: your bc3k.bat is identical with mine.

well, this is the content of bc3000.ini: [bC3000AD] ;cdrom drive letter. Set by INSTALL or if user relocates game after install cdrom=C:Bc3000ad ;Home directory. Set by INSTALL or if user relocates game after install home=C:BC3000AD ;current game version. Usually updated by install and patch updates version=2.09 + map pak ;installation type. Full, Medium, or Small install=Full ;location of PTE config & texture files. If blank, Home directory is searched ptefiles=bc3lib3.res ;Installed language language=english as you can see, i installed it again, this time directly into C: (since the SC noted that it would not run in a folder named with more than 8 characters), and . again, the bc3k3dfx.bat runs smoothly (like it did when it was located in the folder "programme"), while bc3kwin-full.exe still won┬┤t run. i think that the name of the parent folder had nothing to do with that, or else the DOS version wouldn┬┤t run either... thank you all for trying to help anyway... i┬┤ll just go on playing in DOS mode.
-
oops as "programme" is the default name for "programs" in the german version of windows, it never crossed my mind that it could have any impact. obvious when you are used to "programs", but for me it was just something i took as given. sorry for wasting your time. i know, that┬┤s embarassing... silver fox will most certainly have exactly the same reason for not being able to run it, as he is german, and will probably have his parent folder also named "programme". thank you for your time, and excuse my foolishness.

hacking ? i can┬┤t even program HTML, let alone touching some EXE ok, here it goes: Regardless of whether the path in the INI file points to a valid CD-ROM or a hard drive yes, the INI does point to the proper directory on the gard drive. it will check for these files and sizes on the CD-ROM (actual CD-ROM or CD-ROM= path stated in the INI file). If it finds them, then you won't be prompted. ANIM3klogo.ani (file size 1400233) ANIMbcintro.ani (file size 42516829) both files are present in the directory "BC3000AD/anim". i moved them directly into the parent directory, but still got the same result, so i put them back again. so that shouldn┬┤t be the problem. now for the hard part: try adding /d1 to the shortcut to the bc3kwin.exe or bc3kwin-full.exe files and see if that works. where exactly am i to add "/d1" ? when i open the properties of the shortcut, i get only 2 tabs. one says "general" and the other "shortcut". under "shortcut" there are the following text fields: path: C:ProgrammeBC3000ADbc3kwin-full.exe execute in: C:ProgrammeBC3000AD keyboard shortcut: none display in: normal window (pull down menu). i have windows 98 SE. well, anyway, it┬┤s not that important, as i can still run it from bc3k3dfx.bat without problems.

Annoyed by debug-info in freeware???
Apollon replied to Rico Jansen's topic in Battlecruiser 3000AD (Legacy)
damn, you are right when i open it with ADCSee from my hard disk i can view it, but when i try to download it, i get hieroglyphs... i uploaded the original file instead, and the result is still the same. apparently my FTP damages PCX-files somehow. try this link if you want: http://download.tripod.de:81/terminus/bcbridge.BMP it┬┤s a BMP version. just convert it to PCX format and tell us if it works in the game. i think the bridge rocks now -

Apollon replied to Rico Jansen's topic in Battlecruiser 3000AD (Legacy)
are the hanging and dangling feet annoying you too ? try this: http://members.tripod.de/terminus/bcbridge.pcx save it into your BC directory, but rename the original file first (!) no more feet in the air if it works that is... didn┬┤t get to try it yet, as it won┬┤t let me start the windows version without a CD but i will solve this too eventually... -
uh, sorry to disappoint you, but i just tried to start the windows-version myself, and i got the same error. yes, the installation path is the correct one (BC3000AD). i┬┤m absolutely positive that i did everything required by the documentation. to be sure i completely reinstalled the game from scratch. here is what i did: 1. uninstall (salvage the savegames first ) 2. delete manually all the remaining files, 3. get system mechanic to sweep any registry remnants, 4. install, 5. unzip the win.exe, 6. run setup, 7. put a CD in the tray, 8. run bc3kwin-full.exe. but still, it promts me to insert the BC-CD... did i miss a step ? don┬┤t worry, silverfox, we will get to the bottom of this mystery

maybe it┬┤s just my bad english, but isn┬┤t that what the SC considers it ? it┬┤s no longer a product, so you can┬┤t treat it like you would treat one. it┬┤s a gift now instead of a product, which means that no demands or reproachments are legitimate in any way. at least that┬┤s what i understand.

mind if i pop in ? >I hope this is the right area for it.. since it's v2.09 related I'll post it here: i waited for someone to post a new thread and see if he gets deleted. you didn┬┤t, so i assume that it┬┤s ok to post here *grin* >My BC3K Wish-list: but wait, you don┬┤t really expect any of them coming to reality, do you ? if yes, take a deep breath and an aspirin or two: BC3K is no longer considered a legitimate product, so it will not be supported, and i doubt that the SC will provide any more patches. heck, that game is 3 years old. you don┬┤t see any patches for civilization II any more either, right ? >I play in v2.09 in Free-flight mode mostly. same here :-) >These are things that I find annoying or wish was in the game. Hopefully some will make it into BCM. Take it for what it’s worth… Crew Rotations: You should be able to have 3 8-hour watches for crew. Right now when you take your officers (or any crew) off-station to rest their station is vacant. You should have a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Engineer for example. You should be able to assign officers and the rest of the crew to a watch rotation in the Roster. Then you can just select which watch is currently on duty. i always keep some crewmen in the sickbay, so their officer won┬┤t assign them to posts. that way they are always fresh (no fatigue in sickbay) and can be assigned immediately when needed. that┬┤s especially helpful with marines, as you don┬┤t have to click much to get them on search-mode. >Assignment selection: Have a drop-down box or some way to assign many crewmembers at once. It’s tedious the way it is to assign each crewmember individually, having to click 7 times on each to get to the right selection. Like changing marines from “searching” to “off-duty”. great idea. true, the clicking on the arrows is tedious. there should be checkboxes instead. but alas... >Buying/Selling: Ability to sell ALL of an item at once, or to hold Shift/Ctrl/Alt down while clicking to buy/sell 10, 100, or 1000 at a time. i don┬┤t even bother to sell minerals. i┬┤m too lazy to work for my money, hehe. so i go to the nearest debris field, launch all my shuttles and order them to sweep for cargo pods. once they sweep the place empty, i switch to some other screen and then back again, to get fresh pods spawning all over the place. when my shuttles can┬┤t take any more, i go and sell the expensive things (like numegas n┬┤ stuff ). you always find one of these things during a complete sweep. but take care you jettison any illegal items before docking with the station. if you want to keep them though for some reason, stuff them all into a shuttle and launch it before docking. >Communications: Just plain empty right now, the ability to talk to other ships, planets, stations, etc. would liven things up a lot. i suppose that feature is of a certain importance in the campaign, as part of the plot. don┬┤t know yet. >Perspective/scale: Capitol ships are too puny. I like the scale from Descent: Freespace, where your Interceptor has to use it’s afterburner for several seconds just to fly past a capitol ship. When flying up to a capitol ship or station in a shuttle or interceptor you should feel awe at the immense size of the ship. i disagree here. i think the proportions are just right. capital ships are already quite big compared to ICs. don┬┤t try to compare a battlecruiser, with its 118 crewmen, to a stardestroyer, with 37.000 men on board ! >Is that a Capitol ship or an interceptor? A huge capitol ship should not be as maneuverable as an IC. When piloting my BC I feel like I’m flying an IC. I’ve even taken my BC down onto planets, and even landed. The only time you ever saw the Enterprise make planet-fall it crashed…. again, why not ? in space there is no atmosphere to hinder rapid movement, and inertial dampers are doing their part as well. while on planets you can see a significant difference in maneuvarebility between a BC and an IC. and lets not forget that the enterprise is probably much larger than the battlecruiser, and of a far more inferior technology, being built some 700 years earlier besides, the voyager does have the capability of landing on planets >Well, other than these things I LOVE “The Game”! Keep up the good work! couldn┬┤t agree more ! >P.S. A good quick reference screen for keyboard commands would be great! got a printer ? use it good thing to see us newbies populating this forum

by remote command i mean the order you issue to launched units from your bridge (from the list of units located on the right side of the screen). i can launch a shuttle or an IC from there, but not order the shuttles to deploy their ATVs, although the command is there. there just doesn┬┤t happen anyhting when i click on it. only way around is to switch to the shuttle and do it from there. what is it everybody else is doing ? do you all deploy your ATVs by switching to the shuttle, or is there a way around this ? furthermore, are you using all 4 of your ATVs in a strike mission, or do you preferably rely on ICs ?

"make sure the waypoints are not below the ground and not at a high altitude (5000'??!?! yikes)" LOL - commander to shuttle ! deploy your away team ! - but sir... - are you deaf or something lieutenant ?? DEPLOY the away team NOW ! - aye sir !! **THUMP** - damn... sergeant, prepare another away team. we will use the transporter this time. **THUMP** - stupid crew ! do i have to do everything myself ? (enters transporter) **THUMP**

Battlecruiser 3000AD v2.09 FREE
Apollon replied to Supreme Cmdr's topic in Battlecruiser 3000AD (Legacy)
er.. *timidly* does that no-new-thread-directive apply also to the new legacy forum ? anyway, don┬┤t get me wrong, i don┬┤t mean to get offensive, but why did you release v2.9 for free, if you don┬┤t want people to download it ? or did i miss some point ? i don┬┤t see anyone complaining or something. every post i read so far just asks some polite questions. i can┬┤t see why this shouldn┬┤t be possible, since the documentation and interface are rather a bit confusing. i certainly agree with you that no one has the right to demand from you that you offer support or even answer questions on unsupported games. i also find it ok that you require everyone on the pain of banning that they behave themselves. but i don┬┤t see anything wrong when a new member of this community asks a question and another member tries to answer it. i for one thin don┬┤t mind answering newbie questions (even though i myself am just another newbie yet). as for myself, i will certainly buy your new game when it comes out. i did not buy BC3000 because it never was shipped in europe, and i didn┬┤t have internet back then. why not just rename the "legacy forum" to "the battlecruiser hell - a place abandoned from god, support and the supreme commander" and let it follow its own destiny ? why not let it be a platform where newbies try to help eachother ? maybe install automatic censorship, searching for "bad words" like "support", "money back", "demand" etc and have it automatically ban everyone who posts a text with this words in it sorry for taking the liberty to be so direct... i certainly don┬┤t mean to question your decisions. best wishes apollon -
thank you, SC, for answering >Make sure that the waypoint is not below the ground. i figured that out already, and i┬┤m taking cart that this doesn┬┤t happen. >Also, try using two waypoints. #1 would be 'proceed to next' and a little distant from #2. Then place #2 with the deploy order, at the desired location. By the shuttle intercepts waypoint #1, it will be at low altitude and low speed, en-route to #2. It should carry out the order if the waypoint is not below the ground. you mean the remote command doesn┬┤t really work ? ok, i will stop trying to make it work then about waypoints: as far as i figured, you can only set waypoints for certain units. can i set a waypoint that applies for all units ? i don┬┤t want to set 8 different waypoints for 4 different vehicles... also is there a way to group ATVs, like you can group marines ? >It can only RTB to the shuttle that deployed it, if it is in range. well, it is the shuttle that deployed it, but it won┬┤t return nevertheless. the ATV is out, and the shuttle that deployed it is out. both are crewed. but i can only make the ATV to RTB if i actually switch to it and order it from inside (and turn it over to the AI then). anyway, i had a nice little adventure with one of thos disobedient ATVs that had a serious engine damage and wouldn┬┤t move. the pilot of its shuttle died though, so i had to figure out a way to retrieve them both. although it took me a full hour to get it done (i finally sent out a second shuttle to tow them in), i must say that it was in no way frustrating. it rather felt like being in an episode of star trek, and you have a problem to solve. this game has DEPTH ! i LOVE it final question (for today ): when i attacked an insurgent compound, in the antarctica, i noticed some galcommian marines running around. they weren┬┤t mine, ┬┤cause i left mine in the BC. where did they come from ? will i always get such assistance when i attack insurgents on earth ? or was the timing just a coincidence and they would attack the base anyway, even without me ?
-
i suggest you just zoom out again and then zoom back in, so that the map is perfectly vertical to your point of view (you looking at it from the zenith). then the waypoints will be on ground level. i think...
