  1. AKUMA! Hmm, Foss might not, but I would. *Ahem*
  2. It's been a while since this forum has been used, so I figured I'd get some interest when I post here. *Ahem* The Orion site has been down for a while due to my inability to spend any time on it for the last month. Well, that all ended in the last few days, so I've been workin on it once again. Brand new forum is up there for anyone and everyone who cares to use it, as well as the first new site content. More will follow as the days go on, so I suggest anyone who is interested in a careef within the Orion fleet or just wants to pop by go have a look. The url is in my sig. Dont be shy. Btw, it's good to be back. ------------------ Fleet Cmdr. Karl Savage GCV - Tsunami, Orion Starstation (CENTRIS) Fleet Leader, ORION FLEET www.orion-hq.fsnet.co.uk 'Here cometh the storm!'
  3. Website development is on the go again. First step, a new forum for us troubled souls to investigate. Everyone needs to register quick sharpish. Non fleet members are welcome to register as well, but dont expect to get access to all the forums once I get round to finishing it off. http://www.orion.i8i.co.uk/forum/default.asp ------------------ Fleet Cmdr. 4. Nice preview there. It's reading articles like that which remind me what Im really doing here. Kudos.
  5. Hey, dont be ruling me out just yet. So what if we're seperated by a zillion miles or more? I'll see If I can do around the summer time. 6. I was moved to tears, Akuma Anyway, I'll post again this evening. ------------------ Fleet Cmdr. Karl Savage GCV - Tsunami, Orion Starstation (CENTRIS) Fleet Leader, ORION FLEET www.orion-hq.fsnet.co.uk 'Here cometh the storm!'
  7. Just a quickie to see what Akuma is playing at. [RP] Savage glanced between Rattler and his subordinate, Commander Akuma Minako. He was unsure as to why she had returned to the briefing room, since his instructions were to prep the Vulture and stand by for a speedy departure. True, the briefing had taken longer than he had expected. Longer, perhaps, than was even neccesary. With the brief ruckass, the confused questions and Gallions outbursts, time had over run and they were already behind schedule. Still, Akuma should have waited on the flight deck instead of coming back down here. She must have had a good reason to leave her post, and he for one wanted to hear it. 'In your own time, Akuma.' 8. Greetings gang. You've probably all noticed that I havent been around too much in recent weeks, and I'd like to explain why. Those of you that know me, know my life is somewhat *complicated*. Within the last three months, I've taken on an alarming ammount of out of hours IT contract work as well as settling into a new full time role. Well, this full time position Im in is rather stressful, since Im bouncing between various projects while covering for sick people. My job title isnt really set just now, although I seem to be leaning towards being the Internet services manager (When my collegue is off sick), field entwork engineer (When Im out on call) as well as in house support spechalist and about a zillion other things. As a result of that, my time to devote to other projects is limited at the moment. I've had to stop doing The Basement weekly broadcasts because I dont have the time, and havent been able to devote much time at all to anything BC related. This, quite frankly, sucks big time. Other minor concerns (Well, not so minor if you know me) would be my continued pursuit of happiness, which is always kinda up and down with the wom(an/en) Im involed with. Throw moving house and buying a new car into the pot as well, and it makes for a pretty stressful end of year for me. Hrum. On the plus side, by the begining of the new year most of these problems will be resolved and I shall once again be able to spend more time on fleet matters. For the time being tho, Im still not going to be around all that much. Anyway, just thought I should let you guys know that Im still here, still check the forum every day from work and am still dedicated to making (With your help) the Orion Fleet the most feared and respected gaggle of fools in the gaming universe, come the BCM launch. And while Im here, I think it's time for a quick role call. Sound off people. ------------------ Fleet Cmdr. 9. Tis never too late to join in, Silence. We can all assume you were one of the quiet commanders who were invited for whatever reason to attend the mission. If you are thinking of selecting a GalCom or Insurgent fleet to join, this RP may be the perfect way for you to introduce yourself. You know the story so far, and you know how it's going down. Follow the others lead and you'll do fine. Welcome to the war. UPDATE Just noticed you have been approved and signed up with the Insurgency. Heh. Well, your taste is dubious, but at least now you got yourself an excuse to get yourself involved in the plot. Suggest you attatch yourself to Chavik since your character is a newbie. Im sure he'll look after you. ------------------ Fleet Cmdr. Karl Savage GCV - Tsunami, Orion Starstation (CENTRIS) Fleet Leader, ORION FLEET www.orion-hq.fsnet.co.uk 'Here cometh the storm!' 10. Just so you know, Origins Of A GalCom Commander is still going (And in some respects) may well help define some of Gallions animosity towards Savage in later years. I'll try n finish it before we hit the 2 year mark.
  11. [RP] Savage regarded both Gallion and who he correctly deduced was Commander Ben Somerset with the sort of glare reserved for grade A psychopaths and the result of treading in somthing unsavoary on a walkway. Despite Rattlers efforts to calm his boiling blood, he couldnt hold himself back from a goaded reply after the SIN wings commander opened his noise blower and sounded off. 'In case you havent been paying attention commander, we're in the middle of a situation that could very well result in the end of human civilization as we know it. Or did you miss that part of the briefing? Let me refresh your memory. We are here to recover Akira from the Earthcom agency that took him. We are doing this to prevent Akira's knowledge of Insurgent bases, fleet movements and a myrid of other clandestine information being used to conduct a preemptive strike that would plunge us into a bloody civil war. Heres another eye opener for you. We are currently at war with the Gammulans, who I am pretty sure you will remember from not so long ago, are more than capable of giving us another short kick in the ass you remember all to well. Just imagine what they will do when GalCom ships are diverted from the front to engage the massive Insurgent war machine we have all been pretending didnt exist? Thats right commander, they waltze in with their big assed size twelves, punch all the way through to the home systems and drop the mother of all bombs on Disneyworld and hey presto, Micky is riding a mushroom cloud all the way to Cambodia. End result, humanity becomes a sidenote in the Gammulan Empires book of conquests.' Savage paused for a moment and allowed Somerset to return his glare. 'Are we paying attention now? Good ...' Somerset looked as if he was about to protest when Savage again cut him down. 'As interesting as it is that you choose to quote rules and regulations to me, it has no relevance to this assembly. I 'asked' you here for a very secret, and very special operation. You know why I have brought you here. The legality of the situation has no relevance what so ever. This is an illegial operation. I am guilty of conspiring with the enemy, I am guilty of aiding the enemy. Im probably going to be guilty of all the other charges you can throw at me right now. You want to know somthing else Im guilty of? Im guilty of bringing most of you into this. Im probably going to be guilty for getting most of you killed. You know what Im not going to be guilty of? I will not be guilty of sitting back and allowing those misguided *******s back on Earth to destory everything we know. I will not let Rattler try to pull this off by himself and potentially blow the one real chance we have to stop this. And I will not let any one of you stand in my way of this. Not on my watch.' Savage paused for another moment while he let this sink in. 'Should any of you feel it is neccesary to report this to your superiors may do so after the operation is complete. I wont stop you. If any of you decide not to patricipate in this operation and try to make contact with your superiors before this operation is completed, I will have you killed to protect it's secret. If any of you agree to assist us and then attempt to sabotage the mission, again, I will have you killed on the spot. These boys here are not just for decoration. They have been paid extreemly well to follow my instructions to the letter, and they will not be turned.' Savage sighed and lowered his gaze slightly. In a qieter voice, he added 'If you are with us, we welcome and thank you. If you are not, say so now and you will be comfortably held in a secure facility until the operation is complete, one way or the other. Stay, and theres a very good chance you wont be coming back. Go, and you get to live in the knowledge that your contribution could have been the difference between saving the human race, or dooming it. Again, the choice is yours .....' Savage turned away from the gathered officers and quietly took a secluded seat at the side of the podium. He looked tired, utterly drained. It was as if the last few moments of angry retoric had sapped the last of his strength away. However, just before Rattler could take over from where Savage left off, he jumped in for a final, if somewhat quiet, sentance. 'You and I have a problem, Gallion. This isnt a problem I want to have to deal with today. If you are with us, you do as you are told and nothing more. You want to take this up with me at a later time, you are free to do so. But for now we need to be united in this. Agreed?' [/RP] Can anyone say Grudge match? ------------------ Fleet Cmdr. 13. .. finally someone at the palace took me seriously. This is a real weight off my mind ..
  14. Hate to do this to you guys, but I dont recall anywhere in the thread that mentioned assigned quaters. The briefing aint over yet, so dont be overstepping the mark. You got questions? Ask questions. You have an in character opinion? Share it with us. Dont go getting ahead of yourselves. Thats how you end up as worm food real quick.
  15. Savage extended his hand to the Galcom commander that stepped up to him. 'Thank you.' he said as he shook the commanders hand. 'Im greatful for your support, and offer of assistance. Your intel background was one of the reasons why I sent for you in the first place, and as much as we could use the resources at your disposal, Im afraid for security reasons we cant rely on anyone outside of this room. Well, nearly everyone.' Savage stepped back from the commander, and gestured to the vacant seat which was previously occupied. He looked back out over the gathered officers and caught glance of a man he suspected had a question to ask. 'Your question, commander?' ------------------ Fleet Cmdr. 16. Into The Fire [ACT TWO : Choices] [RP] 23:47 hrs, 18th May, 3008 Modified LRT-15 Transport S.S Vulture Command Deck Briefing Room Upon escorted entry to the briefing room, nearly all of the new arrivals found themselves staring into the disbelieving faces of an enemy. Most masked their surprise (Perhaps even horror) at being confronted with those they had sworn to kill, and several had to restrain themselves from acting on instinct and drawing confiscated weapons from empty holsters. One amongst the many went so far as to forget himself completely, and launched at the throat of a man not three feet from where he entered. Better restrained comrades intervened quickly, and attempted to separate the brawling and cussing pair before it escalated into free for all melee. Had it not been for the timely (And unexpected) enterence of both the commander of the Orion Fleet and the CIC of the Insurgency upon the shrouded, raised platform, it would have descended wanton violence instead of the stunned silence they now enjoyed. ÔÇÿYou know,ÔÇÖ said Savage to his Insurgent counterpart some time later, ÔÇÿin a devient, power monger kinda way, I really enjoyed that.ÔÇÖ It took a few more moments of calming down before everyone assembled began to fully take in what they saw. In the few minutes that followed while the stragglers made their way into the briefing room, both Savage and Rattler remained silent and looked out at their assembled troops. Remarkably, both groups seemed to be fairly evenly dispersed amongst eachother. One would think that a natural response to being confronted with both friends and foes would be to group together. After all, there is safety in numbers and unity. Perhaps it was the unique circumstances they found themselves in that rooted them to the spot. Perhaps they were just too dumbfounded to move themselves to friendlier territory. Finally, as the last arrival made his way into the briefing room, did a quick double take at the platform and then root himself on the spot, the two men illuminated the platform where they stood and took a united step forwards to face their officers. ÔÇÿGentlemen,ÔÇÖ started Savage, looking to both the faces he recognised and those that he didnÔÇÖt. ÔÇÿwelcome aboard the S.S Vulture.ÔÇÖ He paused there, quickly trying to gauge the expressions on each of their faces. Seeing a mixture of bewilderment, anxiety and intense curiosity, he took a moment to gather his thoughts before continuing. ÔÇÿOn behalf of myself and Rattler, thank you for attending this little gathering.ÔÇÖ Almost immediately, Rattler continued. ÔÇÿNow, I know what you are all thinking. Why is the leader of the Insurgency and that of the Orion fleet together recruiting commanders from each of our respective organisations and having them meet in the hind quarter of the galaxy in secrecy? Well, thatÔÇÖs not the easiest thing to explain, and some, if not all of you here must be fighting hard to keep yourselves from running to the nearest working comms system and reporting our seemingly treacherous actions.ÔÇÖ From somewhere near the back of the briefing room, a hidden voice uttered a brief reply. ÔÇÿThe thought had crossed our minds.ÔÇÖ Instantly, Savage strepped forward and spoke loudly into the mic. ÔÇÿI wouldnÔÇÖt recommend anyone does that. For one, we wouldnÔÇÖt be doing this without a very good reason. For another, remember those mercs you saw on your way into the ship? Well, they have explicit orders to shoot anybody, Galcom or Insurgent attempting to leave the ship.ÔÇÖ That produced a series of murmers from the assembled officers, and Savage knew instantly that it wasnÔÇÖt well received. Then again, it wasnÔÇÖt likely to, was it? thought the Fleet Commander. ÔÇÿThe order was jointly given.ÔÇÖ Said Rattler, coming to Savages aid. ÔÇÿAnd one that I whole heartedly endorse.ÔÇÖ ÔÇÿThe reasons for which,ÔÇÖ continued Savage, picking up from where Rattler left off. ÔÇÿwill become apparent shortly. In the mean time, please take your seats.ÔÇÖ It took a few moments after he made the offer before everyone began to take heed of his words and begin moving towards the large, oblong table and pull up a chair. As they did so, there was brief conversation between those close together, each asking questions the other had no answers too. At least, for the moment. Once they were seated, Savage continued. ÔÇÿNow that you are more comfortable, a few ground rules. First, while you are on board this ship, you are civilians and will be treated as such. That means restrictions on your movements and to information. You have no rank, no special privileges and no access to weapons or communications of any kind. Both Galcom and Insurgent personnel will be expected to keep your personal feelings towards eachother and to us burried. If I find anyone starting a fight or causing any kind of problem that jepordises us or the mission, I will have you put down. Is that understood?ÔÇÖ A few of the Galcom commanders returned with a sudden, if less than enthusiastic ÔÇÿYes sir.ÔÇÖ While the rest remained awkwardly silent. Rattler took another step forward, and spoke abruptly. ÔÇÿI donÔÇÖt think the Fleet Commander heard you people. He said IS THAT UNDERSTOOD!?!. That, at least, seemed to get their attention. Both Galcom and Insurgent personnel replied with a more enthusiastic response. ÔÇÿAhem, good. Rattler?ÔÇÖ Rattler took a moment to view his people before continuing with the brief. ÔÇÿAre there any questions at this point?ÔÇÖ Everyone there had questions, but few had any they actually wanted to ask. One Insurgent, however, decided to voice his ÔÇÿconcernsÔÇÖ. ÔÇÿSir, just what the hell is going on here? Why are you .. you ..ÔÇÖ he struggled to find the words ..ÔÇÖcollaborating with the enemy?ÔÇÖ The questions was less that diplomatic, but it was one everyone assembled from both camps wanted an answer to. In response, Rattler glared at his subordinate. ÔÇÿWe are not collaborating, as you put it commander. We have forged an alliance for the duration of this mission.ÔÇÖ From the opposite side of the table, a Galcom commander spoke up. ÔÇÿWhat mission?ÔÇÖ he said. ÔÇÿI mean, what is this all about? Why have you brought us here?ÔÇÖ ÔÇÿYou werenÔÇÖt brought here,ÔÇÖ started another Insurgent commander. ÔÇÿLike the rest of us, you weÔÇÖre ÔÇÿinvitedÔÇÖ to attend. Probably by that fleet commander of yours.ÔÇÖ The Galcom commander glared at his Insurgent counterpart. ÔÇÿIf your Intel was up to scratch, youÔÇÖd know that he isnÔÇÖt my fleet commander. Before today IÔÇÖd never even laid eyes on him.ÔÇÖ The Insurgent scoffed. ÔÇÿBut you went along all the same, didnÔÇÖt you? Blindly obeyed an order. Typical Lemming.ÔÇÖ The Galcom Commander, Savage couldnÔÇÖt recall his name at this time, pushed himself up from his chair and leaned over the table towards his antagonist. ÔÇÿLemming ?!? Why you miserable son of a bi-ÔÇÿ ÔÇÿEnough!ÔÇÖ bellowed Rattler once again. ÔÇÿDidnÔÇÖt you listen to a word we just said? Consider this an order, Insurgents, there is a ceasefire in progress. Which means no berating, no trouble. The next one of you .. the next one of any of you that speaks out against another, I will personally break in half.ÔÇÖ Savage gazed down at the Galcom officer who was involved. ÔÇÿThat goes for you, and any of the rest of you too. Take notice.ÔÇÖ The room began to settle again then. Uncertain glances were exchanged from friends and foes alike, neither certain with what they were being told, nor happy with it. As far as they were concerned, either their superiors had gone completely crazy, or something so serious, so bizarre was up that it had frightened the pair into working together. Whatever the case, they needed explanations, and they needed them now. As if on cue, Akuma Minako appeared from nowhere behind the podium, carrying an armful of datapads and began dispersing them one at a time to the commanders around the table. As the last was handed out, she stepped back from the table and faced her commander. ÔÇÿPermission to begin pre-flight countdown?ÔÇÖ she asked. Savage nodded to her and flashed her a slight smile. ÔÇÿPermission granted. IÔÇÖll see you on the bridge in thirty minutes.ÔÇÖ The moment Akuma turned to leave them, Greg Miller, the Orion Fleets Executive Officer shot a quizzical glance at his friend. ÔÇÿWe going somewhere sir?ÔÇÖ ÔÇÿWe are.ÔÇÖ Said Rattler, interrupting before Savage had a chance to respond. ÔÇÿAt least, some of us are.ÔÇÖ ÔÇÿWhat does that mean?ÔÇÖ asked another Insurgent. This time it was Savage who interrupted Rattler. ÔÇÿAll in good time.ÔÇÖ He said. ÔÇÿFirst we should probably explain to you gentlemen exactly why we invited you here. Once thatÔÇÖs concluded, each of you has an important choice to make.ÔÇÖ When he finished, the room remained in silence. It was only after an almost uncomfortable amount of time that Savage continued. ÔÇÿAlright,ÔÇÖ he said, ÔÇÿlets get started.ÔÇÖ [/RP] Ok gang, instead of going through the background all over again, weÔÇÖre gonna skip it and get right to the initial reaction. After the next narrative, there will be some time for characters to ask questions. RP your chatracters initial feelings, but donÔÇÖt descend into a drawn out discussion. Suggest you keep it short and to the point. Both myself and Rattler will answer them one at a time. Floors open gents. [RP] 00:14 hrs, 19th May, 3008 Modified LRT-15 Transport S.S Vulture Command Deck Briefing Room Twenty minutes had passed since Savage and Rattler began explaining. When they had concluded, they allowed everyone a few moments to let it all sink in. Judging by the looks on the faces of those present, there was a mixture of disbelief, horror and anger. ÔÇÿTime is now of the essence gentlemen. If you have any questions, I suggest you ask them now.ÔÇÖ [/RP] ------------------ Fleet Cmdr. Ah yes, Hercules in space. Been watchin it for the last three weeks on Sky One, and I must admit, despite looking a bit dodgy to begin with, it's starting to grow on me. Sadly, it's taken the ultra moralistic outlook on life that we all know and love from Hercules and applied it to this far future storyline, which in my opinion, is a wee bit tragic. Still, it's fun to watch for the most part, and I havent been cringing too much (With the exception of the 3rd episode - The Space Station one with the kiddies. )so far. Anyway, if you get a chance to watch it, I suggest you do. Been a few well placed in jokes there as well. Why not try and spot them? ------------------ Fleet Cmdr. Karl Savage GCV - Tsunami, Orion Starstation (CENTRIS) Fleet Leader, ORION FLEET www.orion-hq.fsnet.co.uk 'Here cometh the storm!'
  18. [RP] 23:24 hrs, 18th May, 3008 Pixan Star Station Command Deck of the S.S Vulture Savage stood on the Vultures command deck and watched the assembled crew members work at their posts. Three officers crewed the small bridge, all hired by the Fleet Commander some days before when both he and Rattler began putting their plan into effect. Even before the communication to recruit those that were needed was sent out, the services of the crew of the S.S Vulture and a small band of notorious mercs had been secured for an impressive sum of money. Now these officers and mercs worked to the fleet commanders order, preparing both ship and cargo for the adventure ahead. Entering the bridge from the rear turbolift shaft, Leutenant Commander Reynolds from the Orion starstation awkwardly approached his commander with a datapad. Handing it to him, he took a moment to look around the bridge. ÔÇÿIm not sure If I like the company weÔÇÖre keeping, sir.ÔÇÖ Said Reynolds, quietly. Savage briefly looked at the datapad, and under his breath muttered ÔÇÿYouÔÇÖre gonna like it even less in the next thirty minutes, Pete.ÔÇÖ Of course, Reynolds knew exactly what his commander was referring to. He knew of the basic premis of the plan, knew that both Galcom and Insurgent officers were being recruited for their desperate mission. However, he didnÔÇÖt know the specifics, and if he was honest with himself, didnÔÇÖt want to know. ÔÇÿWhats the status of the rest of our people?ÔÇÖ asked the Fleet Commander as he finished reading through the datapads contents. ÔÇÿSir, Commander Akuma and Rattler are in the briefing room finalising the brief. Colonel Merrick is standing by at the air lock with a squad of his people. HeÔÇÖs got the scanners rigged to detect both energy and ballistic weapons on anyone that enters.ÔÇÖ ÔÇÿMake sure he performs a full body search as well.ÔÇÖ Said Savage. ÔÇÿSome of the folk weÔÇÖre expecting are a tricky and paranoid bunch. I donÔÇÖt want any surprises.ÔÇÖ Reynolds grimaced. ÔÇÿYou sure thatÔÇÖs a good idea, sir? Some of the people on the roster are renowned for being, ah, sensitive to that sort of thing. They might resist.ÔÇÖ Savage looked at his communications officer. ÔÇÿIf they resist, have them shot.ÔÇÖ ÔÇÿSir?ÔÇÖ ÔÇÿIs there a problem with that order, Reynolds?ÔÇÖ Reynolds shook his head. ÔÇÿNo sir. If they resist, shoot them.ÔÇÖ Savage smiled. ÔÇÿGood.ÔÇÖ He said. ÔÇÿJust be sure not to kill them. They are no good to us dead.ÔÇÖ ÔÇÿAye sir.ÔÇÖ Said Reynolds, who then departed the bridge and made his way to the Vultures aft. Nearly time, thought Savage, uneasily. From here on in, things are going to get very complicated. Moments later, one of the Vultures many exterior cameras tracked the approach of a single individual entering the ships allocated docking bay. Savage squinted at the image, and found he didnÔÇÖt recognise the person on the camera. However, it was likely Rattler would. Savage linked down to the briefing room, and alerted Rattler quickly to pay attention to the camera. ÔÇÿHe one of yours?ÔÇÖ asked the Fleet Commander. ÔÇÿYes.ÔÇÖ Rasped Rattler. ÔÇÿLooks like heÔÇÖs early.ÔÇÖ Savage quickly checked his sychronised watch. ÔÇÿOnly just.ÔÇÖ Said the Fleet Commander. ÔÇÿLooks like this party is about to begin.ÔÇÖ ÔÇÿIndeed.ÔÇÖ Said Rattler before cutting off the comlink. Savage straightened himself in front of the terminal and smoothed out the creased edges of his civilian issue leather jacket and pants. He rubbed his stubbly chin with the back of his hand, and once more glanced around the dingy bridge of the S.S Vulture. Destiny had finally caught up with him. It was time to goto work. [/RP] From this point in, it is assumed that everyone participating in this scenario (Well, those officially invited by either Savage or Rattler) will be arriving at the Vulture. Those that do so will enter the ship one at a time and be scanned thoroughly for weapons. All normal projective, energy or bladed weapons will be found and confiscated by the security personnel there. Anyone bringing any fancy tech with them will also have that confiscated. Anyone trying to smuggle something interesting past these guys will get nailed to the wall. Period. Unless you have discussed it with me previously, there are no hidden surprises being brought onboard. Capiche? Anyone resisting body searches or having weapons confiscated will get a hearty beating, and may be shot. If you want this to happen, I suggest you get your head examined. However, should you want to do something interesting with the security personel, feel free to do so. Role play it here, just bare in mind that any violence will result in you getting your ass well n truly beaten. Sneaky SOBÔÇÖs will be frog marched naked into the brifing room with everyone else. If you donÔÇÖt want to RP going through the search, then it is assumed that you are going to the brifing room without incident. I shall be making an opening post in Part Two of this epic shortly, and from that point everyone that should be there, will be assumed to be there. If you havenÔÇÖt posted or played catch up, you will still assumed to be there. You can catch up later.
  19. Lets keep it on topic please gents. If you want to pitch n ***** about it, do it in the other thread, not here.
  20. Once again, people are screwing with me. I dont have the time, nor the inclination to put up with casual gamers who dont abide by the rules I have set out. As from this point, Emrys is history. If I see you applying to join the fleet again without first posting your intentions here or contacting either myself or Greg Miller, you will be rejected with extreme predudice and all other fleet commanders will be advised.
  21. Well, been at work four days and am settling in nicely. Already been paid in fact. Bonus. Still, thatÔÇÖs not as important as this. Or is it ÔǪ ? [RP] 21:54 hrs, 18th May, 3008 Pixan Star Station Command Deck of the S.S Vulture As expected, the journey from the Orion starstation to Pixan had been interesting. The preceding 24 hours had pretty much been spent in near silence, with the occasional outbreak of hostilities between the three travellers. Although Fleet Commander Savage clearly outranked his subordinate, Commander Akuma Minako, it didnÔÇÖt stop her launching into him from time to time. During one such session, Rattler was resting quietly in the rear cabin and couldnÔÇÖt hear the exchange that was going on. ÔÇÿHow could you bring me here under these conditions?ÔÇÖ said Minako. ÔÇÿThatÔÇÖs so cold, calculated. I didnÔÇÖt think you could be like that.ÔÇÖ Savage remained silent, and tried to ignore her accusations. Akuma persisted. ÔÇÿIn all the time IÔÇÖve been here, I thought you were a man of integrity and honour. And then I discover that youÔÇÖre not the man I thought you were.ÔÇÖ ÔÇÿThatÔÇÖs enough.ÔÇÖ Said Savage quietly. Akuma pushed her luck further. ÔÇÿNo, itÔÇÖs not enough Karl. You brought me here as a bargaining chip. You are using me to keep your own hide safe.ÔÇÖ Savage sighed, and continued to stare blankly into the view screen. ÔÇÿItÔÇÖs not exactly like that, Akuma.ÔÇÖ ÔÇÿIsnÔÇÖt it?ÔÇÖ she countered. ÔÇÿYou said it yourself, and you didnÔÇÖt offer any better explanations.ÔÇÖ This time, Savage turned in his seat and moved in close to her. ÔÇÿYou really think itÔÇÖs a good idea for me to reveal my intentions to the galaxies most wanted man? You think me stupid? You really think I would help put all this together just on good faith? Wake up, Akuma. This is about as real as it gets. This could be some elaborate trap, revenge for what happened to Akira. Who knows for sure what is really going on here? IÔÇÖm sorry you have to be here, and IÔÇÖm sorry if you think IÔÇÖm using you just to guarantee my safety ÔÇô ItÔÇÖs not why youÔÇÖre really here. It just happens to be enough to let that man know that IÔÇÖm not going to take any bullshit.ÔÇÖ As he finished, Akuma pulled back from him. She considered his words for a moment, then quietly responded. ÔÇÿYouÔÇÖve got him all wrong, Karl. He wouldnÔÇÖt do that. I believe in him 100%. He wouldnÔÇÖt lie to me, and he wouldnÔÇÖt put me in harms way deliberately.ÔÇÖ ÔÇÿMaybe.ÔÇÖ Said Savage. ÔÇÿMaybe not. Part of me wants to have as much faith in him as you do, but the other half is always reminded that he is the enemy, and isnÔÇÖt to be trusted.ÔÇÖ ÔÇÿBut you have to trust him, Karl. HeÔÇÖs right about this, and I think you know that, donÔÇÖt you?ÔÇÖ Savage took his time in answering, and when he did, it was only a slow nod. ÔÇÿIf weÔÇÖre going to stop all this from happening, we have to work together, trust each other. If the two of you cant do this, then what chance will the rest of us have when we get together?ÔÇÖ Savage took in a deep breath, and blew it out slowly. He knew she was right, had known it all along. He didnÔÇÖt want to really believe it though. Having complete faith in Rattlers doomsday scenario seemed to make the enormity of the burden on his shoulders all the more real. It was HIS problem, and HIS responsibility. He was recruiting people that in all likelihood were going to die in the next few days. Worse than that, if he failed, then the human race as a species would fail. It was more than Savage thought he could bare, and in his eyes, it justified his lousy mood and less than friendly attitude to his nemesis. He needed someone to blame for all this, and since it was the Insurgent Commander that brought this to his attention, why not him? Both officers remained quiet from that point onwards, only occasionally exchanging words once Rattler had returned from his troubled slumber. Currently, the three of them were on board the S.S Vulture, ahead of most of those that were invited to attend, and preparing to receive them with a lengthy and detailed brief. During the discussions held back on the Orion Starstation in Savages quarters, both the Fleet Commander and Rattler had discussed, and come to the conclusion that despite carefully choosing those that were to be recruited into for the mission, they couldnÔÇÖt be completely trusted. To an extent, Savage could trust his counterpartÔÇÖs officers with maintaining secrecy as to the assignment. He was more concerned with those from within his own ranks, several of whom could possibly be in favour of the actions taken by Earthcom. To ensure secrecy and limit the chances of an incident occurring, they had enlisted the aid of mercenaries on the station to act as guards and jailors for any officers deemed a danger after the briefing. Should anyone be found to be at odds with their mission, they were to be imprisoned, forcibly if necessary and held at Pixan until the mission was complete. Regardless of whether or not those recruited joined them or not, each man or woman was to be stripped of personal weapons and not allowed access to communications equipment during the mission. At least, that was the plan. How this would work in practice, neither of them knew. For now, it was the best they could do, and the best would have to be good enough. ÔÇÿAny last thoughts?ÔÇÖ said Rattler, sitting himself down again around the round table in the Vultures spacious briefing room. Savage shook his head and regarded the Insurgent with cold eyes. Rattler noticed the Fleet Commanders curious expression, and queried it. ÔÇÿYou donÔÇÖt trust me, do you Commander?ÔÇÖ ÔÇÿIn truth, no, I donÔÇÖt.ÔÇÖ said Savage. ÔÇÿAnd if you were in my position, you wouldnÔÇÖt trust me either.ÔÇÖ Rattler smirked. ÔÇÿPerhaps not, but IÔÇÖd probably have a better sense of humour about it.ÔÇÖ ÔÇÿI donÔÇÖt see whatÔÇÖs meant to be so funny.ÔÇÖ Said Savage. ÔÇÿThis isnÔÇÖt exactly what I saw myself doing in the future while I was at the academy. How do you think it feels, going up against my own people, working with my mortal enemies? Am I meant to be cheerful about what weÔÇÖre about to do?ÔÇÖ Rattler sighed, and leaned on his arms. ÔÇÿNo, I can see why you feel this way, but considering this: If not you, then who? Who else would step up and take responsibility for this?ÔÇÖ ÔÇÿWhy did you come to me?ÔÇÖ asked Savage. ÔÇÿWhat makes me so special. Why didnÔÇÖt you go to a more experienced commander?ÔÇÖ Rattler smiled. ÔÇÿBecause I like you, commander. And because that I know, despite youÔÇÖre less than exceptional career, youÔÇÖre a good officer. A little unorthodox, but a good officer none the less. You get things done, and you do it in your own creative way. The universe tends to favour you, and if thereÔÇÖs one thing we are really going to need itÔÇÖs favour.ÔÇÖ ÔÇÿI see.ÔÇÖ Snorted Savage. ÔÇÿIÔÇÖm your lucky rabbits foot. Charming.ÔÇÖ Rattler shook his head. ÔÇÿNo,ÔÇÖ he started. ÔÇÿYouÔÇÖre my partner. Even better than a rabbits foot.ÔÇÖ Despite his glum mood, Savage couldnÔÇÖt help but burst out laughing. His response had a knock on effect with Rattler, who in turn began to chuckle, then roar with laughter of his own. From another cabin, Akuma Minako stepped in, looking ever so slightly bemused at the sight of both her commanding officer and the only other person in the universe she considered family ÔÇô both mortal enemies ÔÇô laughing like naughty school children to an unheard joke. The sight of Akuma Minako, striding in through the doorway and dropping her hands onto her hips further amused the two men. The look on her face was priceless, and for the first time in longer than either of them could recall, things werenÔÇÖt really all that wrong in the world. Sadly for them all, in less than two hours, that was all going to change. [/RP] ------------------ Fleet Cmdr. 23. Jamont, everything seems ok. Just get yourself to Pixan and be sure to time and date stamp your entries. If everyone else could do the same, this would be useful. [RP] 19:22 hrs, 17th May, 3008 Orion Starstation In Orbit Of Centris Medical Deck Mid point through the stations second watch, Savage was gratified to find that the stations senior medical officer, Dr. Hathor, was knowhere to be seen, and as such, unlikely to intervene in what he was about to do. However, as luck would have it, his assistant, Dr. Phelps, was on station, and probably would. ÔÇÿGood evening, Fleet Commander.ÔÇÖ Said Phelps as Savage made his way into the recovery quarter of the facility. ÔÇÿEvening, Dr.Phelps. HowÔÇÖs my favorite patient?ÔÇÖ He was, of course, referring to the young Commander Minako, still recovering from her suicide attempt over a week ago. ÔÇÿSheÔÇÖs doing well,ÔÇÖ started Phelps, ÔÇÿalthough IÔÇÖm still not 100% sure sheÔÇÖs mentally competent enough for the court martial hearing.ÔÇÖ Savage leaned forward over the reception desk and glared at Phelps. ÔÇÿShe wont be standing trial for anything.ÔÇÖ He said to her. Phelps returned the Fleet Commanders glare with a quizzical stare. ÔÇÿShe wont, sir?ÔÇÖ Savage shook his head. ÔÇÿNo.ÔÇÖ ÔÇÿPardon me if Im misinterpreting regulations, sir, but I was under the impression that endangering ones vessel, putting the lives of crew in jeopardy and attempting to absolve herself of responsibility by commiting suicide was a court martial offence?ÔÇÖ ÔÇÿExtenuating circumstances.ÔÇÖ Said Savage. ÔÇÿIÔÇÖve already taken care of the formal side of things. I just need you to sign the discharge papers and weÔÇÖll be on our way.ÔÇÖ At this point, Dr.Phelps rose from her seat and put down the mound of paper work she was sifting through. ÔÇÿAh, excuse me, sir, but this is highly irregular.ÔÇÖ Savage flashed a smile at the doctor. ÔÇÿYouÔÇÖll come to find thatÔÇÖs an every day occurance here on the Orion station.ÔÇÖ Phelps regarded him with an, Irregular my ass, look and leaned over the counter close enough to whisper to him. ÔÇÿNot on my watch, sir.ÔÇÖ Savage didnÔÇÖt like her tone. Fair enough, she was the senior MD on station, not only that, she was directly responsible to the fleets CMO, but still, Savage was the boss, and that should count for something. ÔÇÿRegulations clearly stipulate that a patient currently undergoing phychiatric observation cannot be discharged without both the senior medical officer on station, and the attending physician agreeing to do so. Therefore, sir, whether you or I or anybody else wants to discharge her, it cant be done without going through official channels.ÔÇÖ Savage nodded at her. ÔÇÿYou are correct, of course. However,ÔÇÖ he said, stepping round from his side of the counted and to hers. ÔÇÿyou will find that as the Fleet Commander, I have certain priveliges that allow me to skirt these issues from time to time.ÔÇÖ Phelps glared at him. ÔÇÿSorry, sir, but without going through official channels, you aint skirting anything. Now, come back with official approval from Dr.Hathor, and I shall begin making preliminary observations as to her current mental state. Providing she is found to be of sound mind, you can probably have her in two to three weeks.ÔÇÖ Savage sighed. He knew it was going to be difficult to argue the point with the only officer on the station capable of refusing him an order, but he hadnÔÇÖt expected Phelps to be as problematic as he knew Dr.Hathor would be. It was time to play his trump card. ÔÇÿYou know, Dr.Phelps ..ÔÇÖ started Savage. Phelps immediately knew she didnÔÇÖt like the sound of that. ÔÇÿitÔÇÖs recently come to my attention that you have had very little actual space time since you joined the Orion fleet. Now, according to regulations, all officers serving with the Orion Fleet have to spend a tour of duty, at least once every two years, on a ship of the fleet. According to your profile, you havenÔÇÖt had any space time in nearly twenty two months.ÔÇÖ Dr.Phelps swallowed. ÔÇÿThatÔÇÖs correct, sir. However, I am due to join the GCV-Venture later this month for a three month tour.ÔÇÖ Savage rocked back on his heels. ÔÇÿThe Venture, huh? Isnt she attatched to Hereford on a training cruise?ÔÇÖ Phelps nodded. ÔÇÿYes sir. SheÔÇÖs going to be on station at Hereford for the next 12 months.ÔÇÖ ÔÇÿHmm. DoesnÔÇÖt seem like youÔÇÖre going to get to see much active duty on the front then, does it?ÔÇÖ ÔÇÿNo, sir.ÔÇÖ Said Phelps. ÔÇÿBut then again, I go where Im assigned.ÔÇÖ Savage thoughtfully grabbed his chin, and bobbed his head up and down a few times, appearing to be engrossed in deep and meaningful thought. Phelps didnÔÇÖt like the look of this one bit. Turning his attention back to her, and dropping his hand from his chin, Savage played his card and hoped it would be enough. ÔÇÿHeres the thing,ÔÇÖ he said. ÔÇÿcurrently, the GCV-Istanbul, attatched to the Deterrence Battle Group is without a CMO. Seems the existing officer came to the end of his tour, and has retired back to Earth after a long and dignified service. Now, with the DBG shortly due to return to the front to hold off the Gammulan advance, they are going to need every good officer they can get their hands on.ÔÇÖ At this point, Phelps began to protest. ÔÇÿPlease,ÔÇÖ said Savage, giving her a stern look, ÔÇÿallow me to continue.ÔÇÖ Phelps became silent. ÔÇÿNow, since we are clearly overstaffed here, and the fleet is currently understaffed, it makes perfect sense to take you away from a less than critical assignment at Hereford, and place you where you are needed.ÔÇÖ At that moment, Savage paused and allowed his words to sink in with Phelps. After a moment or two of consideration, Phelps composed herself and spoke quietly to him. ÔÇÿDr.Hathor will have my hide for this, you know that?ÔÇÖ Savage smiled, and knew immediately that his underhand maneuvering had won the day. ÔÇÿDonÔÇÖt worry about Hathor.ÔÇÖ He said. ÔÇÿBy the time he knows whats going on, weÔÇÖll be long gone from here. He can complain all he likes when we get back.ÔÇÖ Phelps sighed, and began sifting through a drawer to her left for release papers. ÔÇÿAnd when will you be back?ÔÇÖ she asked. Savage thought for a moment, not wanting to say anything that would give him away. ÔÇÿBack in a week.ÔÇÖ He said. ÔÇÿIÔÇÖve got business elsewhere, and Im going to need Miss Minako for it.ÔÇÖ Phelps shook her head. ÔÇÿI donÔÇÖt want to know, sir. The less I know of this, the better for all concerned.ÔÇÖ Savage smiled again. ÔÇÿGlad you agree, doctor.ÔÇÖ 19:37 hrs, 17th May, 3008 Orion Starstation In Orbit Of Centris Medical Deck ÔÇÿWake up sleepy head.ÔÇÖ Said Savage, beaming down at Akuma Minako as she slowly woke from her slumber. Through blurred eyes, she made out the features of Fleet Commander Savage smiling at her, and was at once confused, and surprised to see him. ÔÇÿSir?ÔÇÖ she said sleepily. ÔÇÿKarl?ÔÇÖ Savage pulled back, and took a seat close to her bedside. ÔÇÿTime to get up, Akuma. YouÔÇÖre getting out of here.ÔÇÖ Akuma slowly began to push herself up in bed, and leaned back into her pillows. ÔÇÿWhat?ÔÇÖ Clearly, Commander Minako was still gripped by the deep slumber she had been in and out of since she was admitted. During the times when she had been conscious, the attending physicians had been monitoring her closely, and she had been on an effective suicide watch the entire time. ÔÇÿAkuma, weÔÇÖre going somewhere, you and I. And we have to leave now.ÔÇÖ She rybbed a palm over her blurred eyes, squinted into the light and assured herself that she wasnÔÇÖt still dreaming, and that the Orion Fleets Commander was, in fact, sitting beside her, telling her to get up. ÔÇÿWhere are we going?ÔÇÖ she said. Savage shook his head. ÔÇÿI cant tell you just yet. Although I can tell you, weÔÇÖve got a companion on our journey.ÔÇÖ Just then, the events of last week flooded back to Akuma. All at once, she felt remorse, guilt and embarresmant. She quickly looked down at her wrists, and was surprised to find only faint scars where she had slashed herself. Examining them closely, she suddenly lost all control of her emotions, and began sobbing. As she lowered herself to her lap, Savage pulled close to her and put an arm around her shoulder. ÔÇÿItÔÇÖs ok.ÔÇÖ He said, reassuringly. ÔÇÿEverything is ok.ÔÇÖ Akuma fought to break free from him. ÔÇÿNo, itÔÇÖs not ok.ÔÇÖ She said. ÔÇÿI betrayed you, the fleet, family ÔǪÔÇÖ There she trailed off, and began crying openly into her lap. Savage knew he had to take control of the situation quickly, or things were going to get progressively worse for the both of them. The last thing he needed was an officer incapable of following his orders in an emergency situation, and although nothing was an immediate emergency, if she didnÔÇÖt take control of herself now, it may come back to haunt her later on, when things were more urgent. ÔÇÿCommander Minako.ÔÇÖ Said Savage, sternly. ÔÇÿGet a grip of yourself and get your ass out of bed, right now. WeÔÇÖre going on a mission, and IÔÇÖll be damned if Im taking a sobbing little girl with me into a life or death situation. If you donÔÇÖt think youÔÇÖre up to it, IÔÇÖll leave you here right now and have your discharge papers waiting for you by the time I get back.ÔÇÖ Savage paused and waited to see if his words had an effect on the sobbing Minako. He hoped that his sharp tone had shocked her back to her senses, since she had never heard him speak to anyone else in this manner. His easy going attitude and generally laid back personality, replaced with that of a harsh sounding drill sergeant might have been enough to turn things around. It took a moment, but Akuma Minako composed herself. ÔÇÿSorry, sir.ÔÇÖ She said, pulling her head back and wiping a hand across her tear blurred eyes. ÔÇÿIm ok now.ÔÇÖ Savage nodded, and stepped away from the bed. ÔÇÿGood. Now, get yourself up and dressed. IÔÇÖll be waiting for you outside. And donÔÇÖt dally, we got a timetable to keep to.ÔÇÖ 19:54 hrs, 17th May, 3008 Orion Starstation In Orbit Of Centris Shuttle Launch Deck As the pair approached the shuttlecraft Nimitz, Pete Reynolds, the Orion Stations chief of communications drove up in a cargo transported and parked outside the shuttle craft. He waved at Savage as the pair approached, and waited awkwardly for the Fleet Commander and Akuma Minako to pause beside him. ÔÇÿGot everything?ÔÇÖ asked Savage. ÔÇÿUh, yes sir. I think so, sir.ÔÇÖ Said Reynolds. Savage inspected the cargo containers, and checked the contents against the manifest he had with him. Satisfied that everything was in order, he dropped the pad onto the closest crate and turned to face Reynolds. ÔÇÿYou have your instructions?ÔÇÖ Pete nodded. ÔÇÿYes, sir. Although IÔÇÖm still not sure what this is all about.ÔÇÖ ÔÇÿAnd thatÔÇÖs the way itÔÇÖs going to stay for the time being.ÔÇÖ Said Savage. ÔÇÿJust make sure you rendevous with your contact and donÔÇÖt get into any unessesary trouble.ÔÇÖ Pete smirked. ÔÇÿMe, sir? You know I donÔÇÖt get into trouble, sir.ÔÇÖ Savage smiled, and then turned away and stepped upto Minako, who was waiting patiently for him at the foot of the shuttle craft. ÔÇÿGet the cargo loaded into the hold, then report back to C&C and hold all traffic until weÔÇÖre clear out of the region.ÔÇÖ ÔÇÿAye sir.ÔÇÖ Said Reynolds, getting back into the cargo transported. ÔÇÿAnd sir?ÔÇÖ Savage turned and faced his Comms officer just as he was mounting the first steps into the shuttle craft. Reynolds flashed him a smile. ÔÇÿKeep your head down, sir.ÔÇÖ Savage returned the smile, and snapped off a quick, and less than official salute. That done, both Savage and Minako entered the shuttle, and headed for the cramped flight cabin. 19:58 hrs, 17th May, 3008 Shuttlecraft Nimitz, Orion Station Shuttle Launch deck Flight Cabin ÔÇÿWhat took you so lon-ÔÇÿ started Rattler, as Savage and Minako entered the flight cabin. Both Akuma and Rattler froze in motion and speech as they recognised eachother. For the longest time, neither of them spoke. Savage noticed the look of surprise in Rattlers face, and flashed the old Insurgent a myschevious smile and stepped past him to take the helm. As he passed, a powerful hand shot out and gripped the Orion Fleet Commander above the elbow. ÔÇÿWhat is she doing here?ÔÇÖ he said, sounding angered. Savage looked down at the Insurgents hand, and then into his eyes. Like a non verbal warning, Rattlers grip eased, and he released Savage to continue to the helm position. ÔÇÿYou wanted company, you got it.ÔÇÖ Rattler looked towards Minako, who was still frozen on the spot, utterly speechless. ÔÇÿYes,ÔÇÖ started Rattler. ÔÇÿBut not her!ÔÇÖ Savage, his back to the old Insurgent blew out a sigh. ÔÇÿAnyone I choose, remember? DonÔÇÖt ***** at my choice.ÔÇÖ Rattler turned away from Minako again, feeling a little embarresed and took the seat next to the Fleet Commander. ÔÇÿCommander Savage,ÔÇÖ he said. ÔÇÿwhy did you bring her here?ÔÇÖ ÔÇÿThree reasons.ÔÇÖ Said Savage, making pre-flight launch checks. ÔÇÿFirst, you wanted female company, and I think you will agree, sheÔÇÖs all woman. Two, I need a calming influence with me on this trip, or itÔÇÖs likely IÔÇÖll murder you in your sleep and jettison the body, what with your incessant chatter. And third,ÔÇÖ Savage turned his head and looked directly at Insurgent One. ÔÇÿif you are not on the level with me, and this is some sort of elaborate trap, I wanted to make sure that I had someone with me that you would want to see put in harms way.ÔÇÖ Rattler shook his head at Savage, and pulled an ugly face at him. ÔÇÿIÔÇÖm disappointed in you, Savage. I thought you were a man of integrity. I cant believe you would use her as a weapon against me.ÔÇÖ Savage pulled an equally ugly sneer at Rattler, showing that he too could be disappointed. ÔÇÿIm just making sure we both understand eachother. And now, I believe we do.ÔÇÖ From behind them, the near comatose Akuma Minako finally broke free of her inability to speak. ÔÇÿExcuse me?ÔÇÖ she said. ÔÇÿBut would someone please tell me just what the hell is going on?ÔÇÖ The console in front of Savage bleeped, alerting him to the fact that Reynolds had finished loading the cargo in the shuttles bay. ÔÇÿTime for that on the way.ÔÇÖ Said Savage, tapping into the flight console and bringing the engines online. ÔÇÿYes.ÔÇÖ Said Rattler, looking to Akuma and then back to the Fleet Commander. ÔÇÿPleanty of time for that on the way.ÔÇÖ Moments later, flight clearence granted from C&C, Fleet Commander Savage, Commander Akuma Minako and Rattler of the Insurgency shot out of the Orion Starstations Shuttle Launch bay and towards an uncertain destiny. This trip was going to be interesting. [/RP]
  24. Sorry Alex, but only the testers (Myself, Greg Miller and James Hamblin) within the Orion Fleet will have it. Dont worry though, a demo will be made available once the beta testing phase is complete, so you can get a taste (Along with everyone else) then. Dont ask me when, cos nobody has a fixed date right now. Expect it some time early 2001 though. ------------------ Fleet Cmdr.
