  1. Here's a question I don't think was asked yet. Is it possible to map the buttons of multifunction game controllers to perform standard functions within the game, or do you have to rely on the game controller's keymapping utilities??? As important, if the answer of the above question is the latter (having to use the keymapping utils) is BCM compatible with them (many games aren't)???
  2. It took me hours to realize that I needed the 230K patch... SC, you should put a link to it on the downloads page. I didn't see it there.
  3. As for the source of your shock and the heat, some modem cards have a small transformer on them. Additionally, your system, running hot, can be pretty warm if there is poor heat disopation. Touch a heat sink and you may burn yourself. Touch a capacitor and you may get a direct current shock. You have to be careful what you touch in there, even with the power off. Most of the danger is from you to the computer, in the form of static electric shocks to the components. Sometimes it will go the other way. By the way, you can pick up a TNT2 Mach64 card w/ 32MB RAM for about $35-$50. I have the generic AGP version of that card and not a problem with it since getting it.

  5. Yeah, but making a duel boot machine is just a pain in the butt. Many games get ported to Linux years after their initial release. C&C is one example. One of the Quake's was ported as well. It's conceivable that after all the new things in the pipeline are done (i.e. GCO, etc.), there will be time to at least supervise a port to the other OS. It may also help pave the way to a port to other platforms such as PS2 (unlikely, more likely some future PS3), Xbox, etc. Sales for those would make the effort worth while.
  6. SC, Are you aware that there are software groups that will port the game to Linux for you (without infringing on your copyright)??? Or is your motivation not to allow that to happen based upon the propriatary nature of the code and not wanting to run the risk that others will get a hold of it??? I think there is a strong correlation between fans of your game and those who are either Linux savy or anti-Microsoft enough to be Linux users.
  7. Will BCM actually be hitting the shelves around the end of the month or will it just be available for pre-orders??? In other words, do the first edition run from the production house exceed the pre-orders or not?
  8. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Probably not until next year Yes, EB (UK) and EB (US) are different companies. I have no dealings with EB (UK) If other games are any indication, many European gamers buy American versions and pay extra to have theme shipped there, even if it means playing a game in English when they are German. The reverse is also true to a limited extent (for example with the Elite series, there were versions of First Encounters that could only be aquired in the European market).
  9. For no other reasons than the high system requirements, loss of ISA component support, the registration issues on anything less than an XP Pro site license (6 Components in 6 Mos.??? Including IDE controller, Processor ID #, and RAM amt??? They gotta be kidding!!!) I'd run, not walk away, from getting Win XP. Eye candy is not worth the loss of a couple of hundred MHz and 98 MB of RAM just for the OS to run. For XP to have the high sys reqs like it does, they should have build in voice recognition, ala Dragon Naturally Speaking. Now that someone brought up Linux,... what are the chances of a Linux port of either BC3K 2.09 or BCM to Linux???
  10. I wouldn't get to smoked up about PClamer reviews, their rating system isn't worth a darn and I haven't subscribed to the rag for the last 3-4 yrs because of their reviews being so far off the mark. They typically do not make an effort to have fans of a particular genre review games of that genre, and so I have seen great games get toasted in reviews (Elite 2: Frontier, for example, ground breaking in terms of game play, but not glitzy enough, so it got effectively panned). Wait for other game reviews to come out, as a measuring stick, before you trust a PCgamer review. I know I always do. My question,... Are any of these mags going to include a copy of BC3K 2.09??? That would be a better selling advertisement than a review in my opinion. I would love to play it, since it is supposed to run under Win9X, but I have a 56K connection.
