CTD and intruders
Supreme Cmdr replied to Cruiser's topic in Battlecruiser / Universal Combat (Legacy)
quote: Originally posted by Cruiser: Ok, at fist I should find out that the debug exe you sent me only worked in my Starforce version, you gave me during testing the PTA problem. Yeah, I know. I only sent you the Starforce version because I can only protect Starforce and Trymedia versions. For the D2D version, I have to send the files to IGN and wait for them to protect and send them back to me. quote: But then, weird, I can't get the debug exe you sent me to crash. Here are my test results so far: * Starforce / full screen | 2 crashes / 2 runs * Starforce / w1 mode | 1 crashes / 1 run * Starforce / debug exe / w1 mode | 0 crashes / 5 runs * Starforce / debug exe / full screen | 0 crashes / 3 runs I don't understand. You said that you can't get it to crash, but above you listed that you got a total of three crashes. quote: I don't know what's special about this exe file, but it is affecting the stability of my system. It is a debug (and much slower) version designed to spit out a debug error if/when it does crash. This way I can tell where in the code the crash is occuring. I have also tried running the D2D version with no crashes. quote: Originally posted by Cruiser: BTW, I also reinstalled my D2D version, ran the updater, started a new game, got intruders onboard, saved, resumed, watched PERSCAN, crashed. What exactly happens when it crashes? Don't you get a message from Windows? And did you say that when run in a window it doesn't crash at all? Did you try this with /w1 as well as /w2? -
hehe, Apollo you're always last to the party. Anyway, yeah, I wasn't going to implement it in UCAWA. But then I figured that you folks are the ones who keep us in business, so, of course I did what usually comes naturally. I just went ahead and implemented it. The engine itself costs $4K. So thats like 250 unit sales of the game to pay for it. Then my time in implementing it which was like three days. It adds up. But I'm sure I'll get it out of you folks at some point.

CTD and intruders
Supreme Cmdr replied to Cruiser's topic in Battlecruiser / Universal Combat (Legacy)
I can't reproduce it. So none of this helps. Until I get a saved game in which I can reproduce it, there's nothing that I can do because its just not happening here. Cruiser, check your PM please. ps: The next person to post in this thread when they don't have UCAWA, will be banned from the site. Also, I don't want ANY further posts on this matter, except from Cruiser because you folks are just posting inconclusive data and confusing the issue. -
CTD and intruders
Supreme Cmdr replied to Cruiser's topic in Battlecruiser / Universal Combat (Legacy)
quote: The CTD also occurs if you immediately switch to tacops and just watch your marines fight back the intruders....erm, how are you able to view that from Tacops? -
...and thats exactly why most [mainstream] game devs and publishers treat gamers like stupid idiots and keep making games targeted at specifically that demographic.

CTD and intruders
Supreme Cmdr replied to Cruiser's topic in Battlecruiser / Universal Combat (Legacy)
uhm, how can you view the intruders in PERSCAN without actually accessing PERSCAN? -
Just came across this in my browsing. The opening paragraphs are suspect. He's talking as if you had to look at each and every display in order to the play the game. Even in combat, you only have to focus on two displays. The HUD and the TRS (radar). As if it were any harder than any average sim out there. Whats wrong with these people or are we the BC/UC players, the last remaining signs of gamer intelligence left in the known [gaming] universe? Seriously. quote: Of course, it boasts a multiplayer mode also, but that presents a bit of a problem in itself because if your friends can play it better than you it means they are smarter.LMAO!! So true. [ 01-23-2006, 12:11 PM: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

The statement I wrote in that excerpt is quite accurate and bears no relevance whatosever to BCNG or the product would have been removed from the forum.

For the two hours that I saw, I kinda liked it. However, at 2:30 mins it was just too long and too slow to hold my attention for long. I left a little over two hours and shortly after Christian Bale's character was introduced. I'll finish it when the DVD comes out. ....I went and saw Underworld for the second time instead. 8/10

CTD when capturing Borealis?
Supreme Cmdr replied to Cruiser's topic in Battlecruiser / Universal Combat (Legacy)
Yep, thats what that was. I have fixed it (Starforce version only for now) and will be pushing it into the .11 patch later today for those who haven't yet downloaded it. You can download the fix and extract into your game folder, overwriting the existing version. CTD and intruders
Supreme Cmdr replied to Cruiser's topic in Battlecruiser / Universal Combat (Legacy)
Just tried it on several machines with no crash whatsoever. There are five intruders on board when the game is restored and they are eventually killed. At one time, one of them got into shuttle 4. Until someone else reproduces this and with a reliable method of testing it, there's nothing that I can do. Trying running it in a window then post the error message (if any) if/when it does crash. Add something like /d5 /w1 to your shortcut. quote: NOTE: I'm running at 1024x768 resolution. The intruders section of perscan almost always is "compressed" so I have to drag it out to display intruder info. This also sometimes results in a crash.I don't see why the display would shrink. It works fine for me and I don't have to do anything. -
Posted from GNN quote: Well, the new year is upon us and the industry is settling down to the disappointment that was Q4/05 retail video game sales. If nothing else, perhaps this will serve as yet another reminder that this whole Christmas bum rush of products is: Just. Plain. Bad. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, we've been working on our future projects and are today pleased to also announce a brand new IP and a new title. Hostile Intent - Planetfall brings our seamlessly integrated technologies to the formidable XBox360 platform. KnightBlade - Line Of Defense, another XBox360 title, is our brand new from-the-ground-up IP which is not only ground breaking but also continues our trend of developing truly innovative titles. Yep, you guessed it. We're in the process of a major console sellout. Who knew?!? We are also in the process of negotiating several deals for the boxed versions of both Universal Combat Gold and Universal Combat - A World Apart, both of which were released late last year for online purchase only. More news when the dust settles. Plans are also in the works to release Battlecruiser 3000AD - The Last Decade sometime next year. This will be the final BC/UC franchise stream and is a culmination of every scenario from all six games in the series, starting with the very first title, Battlecruiser 3000AD (1996) to Universal Combat - A World Apart (2005). In other words, a huge game. Based on the UCAWA engine, it will also feature several graphics and gameplay tweaks and will mark the final curtain for our legacy franchise as we've come to know it.

CTD when capturing Borealis?

There could be a data file out of sync if its just that station that has the problem. OK, I'll look into it later today when I get the chance. -
CTD and intruders
Supreme Cmdr replied to Cruiser's topic in Battlecruiser / Universal Combat (Legacy)
Once again, someone needs to try it on their own without using your saved game. If you've somehow corrupted your saved game or your game install environment, you will get problems like this which nobody else has. quote: I've reached the conclusion that it is some kind of state change of an intruder that causes the crash.Rubbish. There are no such state changes. If you want help, stop with the speculation since you have no idea what you're talking about, not knowing how the game's internal mechanics work. -

Did you guys try it without using his saved game? That needs to be done in order to rule out a corrupted saved game. -

Has anyone managed to reproduce this? The saved games files are compatible, so you don't need to have a D2D version to test it. -
LUVED it!!! Really one of Allen's best works. The plot twist will unravel your mind. A definite must-see...especially if you've got a date. 10/10

Stargate SG-1: The Alliance
Supreme Cmdr replied to Captain McMahon's topic in PC Gaming & Technology
Well, thats the end of that. They've cancelled it. From one of the staff members at Perception: "For the last couple of months, we have had several good offers from interested publishers. They only needed one thing - MGM's approval. Since MGM are the owners of the Stargate license, everything needs to be approved by them, even new publisher contracts. So, when we approached MGM about these contracts...MGM basically sat on their hands and did nothing. They didn't flat out say no, but they didn't say yes either. They expressed concerns with areas of the game. We addressed those concerns. Still no publisher approval. We showed them other offers from publishers, and that said publishers were asking for more information on the license. Did MGM provide it? No, even though contractually they were supposed to. In the end it was pretty obvious MGM wanted the project canned for some reason that eludes everyone except them, but they didn't want to be the ones to do it. So, they just sat on their hands and did nothing for several months, to the point where Perception could not afford to keep working on the game knowing that they didn't have MGM's approval, and will probably never get it. Developers need publishers to fund the creation of a game. Without the publisher, the developer gets no income. Without MGM's approval, Perception couldn't sign a publisher. So the equation is pretty simple. There's only so long a developer can hold on financially without publisher backing. As of about Friday the 20th of January 2006, at about 1pm Sydney time, the title "Stargate SG-1: The Alliance" was terminated for all SKU's. This also means the entire development team was "let go". I am now out of a job. After putting blood, sweat and tears into this thing for the last year and a half, and pulling some ridiculous hours on more occasions I can count, it's all for nothing." -
This game to movie production seems to be top notch. I saw the trailer on the big screen yesterday before Underworld. You can grab the trailer here.

This movie was so good, that I don't feel so bad that I actually went to see Uwe's latest disaster. Damn this movie was good. A bit gory at times, but the performances, special fx and everything were top notch. From the looks of it, there is a third coming up. Uwe is probably going to go see this and wonder wtf he was doing with Bloodrayne. 10/10
