I never knew about that one, I just thought you were saying that the server disconnects clients. What happened was that the client got a bogus disconnect message from the client and I think its because when there is so much packet going to the client, if it does not respond within a certain time, the server thinks the client is gone and disconnects it. Yeah, we had a blast last evening - too bad I crashed the server (using a cheat hack I hadn't even tested in a while) trying to save Kyle from Empirian Police, during our pilgrimage to Galadran. quote: Originally posted by Shingen: Just some comments: Shingen, did you read the VCF lately? The issue with AG entities not moving (actually they *are* moving, the client is just not updating them because the server is not sending the info) was reported to me days ago and I've already figured out the problem. And I made stations and ods system invincible in order to prevent them being destroyed. To see why, read the VCF. I never designed mp to be used with AG entities, thats why its not documented. Once I allowed it (only on SERVER4), I've been tweaking it here and there because it looks like it is a popular addition. The server needs to treat each NPC as if it were a client and then send that information to all the clients on the server. Thats a lot of data and I've been scheduling what gets sent and when. What I've discovered is that one particular packet with dynamics info is not being sent regularly and as a guaranteed packet. For that reason, it can get dropped and will never get sent. When that happens, while the NPC will be updated on the server, it will not be updated on some clients. Anyway, I expect to fix it shortly. Stations do resupply because NPC transports do dock (they don't have strike targets). And even if AG ships did'nt dock, they will still resupply over time because AG is not required in mp in order for stations to contain items. There are no PZ definitions in mp, so you won't lose EPs for stuff like that. You only gain/lose EPs if you do actions which affect the target e.g. if you destroy a friendly, you will/should lose EPs. Intruders beaming over from NPC ships probably won't work, for the same reason that cargo pods are created empty. The server needs to know about all the clients in order to know which client to beam intruders so. Since thats not handled, I am not surprised that it does not work.
  2. hehe, its getting there. Things just take time. We had a blast last night....until I crashed the server (I used the HSD cheat to spy into the region clients were in. I forgot that I hadn't tested that since I change the mp server model back in Feb) trying to save Kyle from an Empirian Police cruiser trying to ruin our pilgrimage to Galadran.
  3. In the case of #1, if the jump target is outside the HJ range, nothing will happen. Thats normal. And if you don't wait for the ship to orient itself, it won't jump. In the case of #2, dunno, will look into it later today. In the case of #3, it works as designed. btw, you have the ability to edit your messages, so next time you have something to add, edit your original message instead of creating a new one. EDIT: I found (and fixed) a problem with the delay (its too long) in doing a hyperjump when towing an object. [ 05-24-2004, 11:49 AM: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

  5. Mines are currently disabled in mp *moved*
  6. Check the reg page. The online VCF has also been updated.

  8. The other day, I IP banned Wolf57. Since that time, he has been spamming the CAT email address with stupid emails which get sent to me for perusal. He then asked to be let back in. He was told no, and that once you are banned, you remain banned. He continued spamming the email address with rubbish. Today, he took it one step further and sent this email (posted with complete headers) anon. quote: Return-Path: Delivered-To: galcom-3000ad:[email protected] X-Envelope-To: [email protected] Received: (qmail 84882 invoked from network); 22 May 2004 06:50:21 -0000 Received: from web20604.mail.yahoo.com (216.136.226.162) by qs292.pair.com with SMTP; 22 May 2004 06:50:21 -0000 Message-ID: Received: from [24.209.106.139] by web20604.mail.yahoo.com via HTTP; Fri, 21 May 2004 23:50:21 PDT Date: Fri, 21 May 2004 23:50:21 -0700 (PDT) From: Henry Wolf Subject: THIS IS RUINING UC FOR ME! But I just want you to know me and my friends will not be purchasing anything from 3000ad for a good while. I know you wont care but I just thought you should know. I am trying to be mature about this and ask politely, if i was reaccpeted i would follow the rules as best as possible. You are losing a good costomer. I will ask you one more time but i know its hopeless, Ill I wanted was to share some of my UC experiences with some fellow fans of the game. But know this has been taken away from me, I am hurt by this. But again i know this is your site, i just wanted to say i would take it more seriously and follow your rules. I am greatly sorry for offending anyone. Please give me one more chance. It would make me very happy. My sincere apology, Hank |CAT wrote: | |You will not be allowed back on the forums. Hence the reason I stick to my First Strike doctrine. And don't give second chances. And as most of you oldies here know, he is not the first banned twit to pull a stunt like this. quote: Return-Path: Delivered-To: galcom-3000ad:[email protected] X-Envelope-To: [email protected] Received: (qmail 18344 invoked from network); 23 May 2004 19:50:37 -0000 Received: from web50101.mail.yahoo.com (206.190.38.29) by qs292.pair.com with SMTP; 23 May 2004 19:50:37 -0000 Message-ID: Received: from [24.209.106.139] by web50101.mail.yahoo.com via HTTP; Sun, 23 May 2004 12:50:37 PDT Date: Sun, 23 May 2004 12:50:37 -0700 (PDT) From: Derek Smart Subject: Derek is lame!! 9. doh, no I forgot. But if you want to create it, be my guest.

  12. Oh man, thats just craaaaazy.
  13. While mp still has some kinks to work out, we're having a lot of fun and it really shows the power, extensibility and freeform nature of the game. Last night, I logged on SERVER4 (which is the most populated server, probably because it has AG turned on) to run some tests and found a bunch of guys (Marvin, Kahn and Shohashi are regulars) on. At some point, Marv got real banged up (by hostile NPCs) and all his systems were down, nuclear reactor was about to meltdown etc. So he asked for a tow. I warped over, captured him in the tractor beam and jumped to the Paladian station. Then got close enough to the station so that when I dropped him, he could just dock, since he didn't have the power to travel to the station. Once I did that, he docked. Lucky for him, he had the station already in his target matrix (though his radar was down) so when I dropped him, he just did ALT+D to dock. Since (in mp) repairs at a station take 1 min per item (and 5 mins if you not docked), he launched pretty quickly after that. But sadly he had a CTD (the server was intact) which is probably caused by an issue in which when you dock at a station, your ship object remains in space, and when you relaunch, the server probably tries to re-created it. I can see how a CTD could happen, but I have not observed that yet (am looking into that today). Anyway, when he logged back on, I had jumped to the station and then exited my craft in fp mode. As an SFM, I was flying around and inside the station. Later Marv, Kahn and Gordon joined in. Flying, walking etc around the station all worked just like it does in sp mode. ....thats when I decided to pinch Marv's CC That didn't work of course, so I made it back to my CC and fly past Marv who commented about how cool it would be if he could have entered my CC as part of my crew complement. Anyway, we then decided to take on the Resilient Insurgent station in Gaulan and so off we went....knowing that we were all probably going to die trying. So we jumped (I was leader) to Castrin, then on to Gaulan. I then cloaked, jumped to station and started pounding it with FATAL assigned missiles and laser shots. Thats when I got a bogus server disconnect message (the server was just fine) which caused me to manually disconnect (I should have waited for the message to clear and confirm that the server had in fact dropped me) probably due to the massive packets that were being sent due to the fact that we were pounding the station. I dropped and later the guys destroyed the station. I logged back via the server, made some notes (some issues I had noticed while playing) and then left. All in all, it was quite cool and is only going to get better once I resolve a few mp kernel issues (especially the time synch problem on the planet). Below is the chat log from the session as well as some PNG shots I took. I tell you, its pretty cool seeing all these ships out there (Marv can't park! ) and players flying around in fp mode while in space. 16. New patch is out. Anyone recogize two of the fixed issues? And I thought I was the only one have to fix those problems in UC multiplayer.
  17. quote: Originally posted by Marvin: but, from what I could see, he was having a great time running around an Insurgent city (not base ... no protection) in FP mode. *groan* I gotta get that damn time synch on the planet sorted out. It gives me a headache just going down there (since the time shift causes you to go back in time and shifts your pos back etc) All in good time I suppose.
  18. Just tried it. Works fine. alt+d is different from the command used for asset switching. In fact, I tried it on a carrier and was able to switch to all of its turrets etc.
  19. Thanks for the words of support. You've now discovered the #1 reason why we are still here. We care about our games. If you play any game long enough, you are bound to find bugs. As a small company (with one primary programmer who does 90% of the coding, me), there is only so much that we can do - especially given the scope of my games, budget, resources etc. But at retail, we still kick some ass. Anyway, enjoy the Nightstar, she's a fine ship indeed.

  22. You can't dock with them using crafts. You have to be in fp mode in order to asset switch to them. And even then you can't move them. Only use their guns etc.
  23. Due to his exceptional assistance (apart from being good spirited/natured, supportive etc) to us wrt multiplayer etc, Marvin has been added to the official Beta testers list effectively immediately.
  24. LMAO!!! OK, thats funny. Anyway, there are no safeguards to prevent another player nabbing one of your crafts. And since its perfectly legal, I don't think I will prevent it. At this time. As for him playing as a marine, why can't he join the server as an SFM? The marine and PSP careers are NOT allowed to leave the planet. So, no matter what craft they are in, they can't do it. The game checks the career in the profile, not the craft. However, an SFM - with a craft - can launch from space and go a planet (and be able to return to space), but if he egressed the craft while on the planet, he would die (since SFMs have a different type of suit).
  25. OK, will do. Thats a typo. It should read 5 - 10km, just like it does in the previous section. 10km is just playing it safe
