  1. There's no hard setting. The game AI scales up/down over time and depending on encounters, length of play etc etc
  2. I just hope that some of you are actually reading the products info page which has the requirements for UC. The most critical info being the pixel and vertex shader requirements for the graphics card. The game requires a card with Vertex Shader 1.1 or higher. At the very least - if you care about visuals - make sure that your card supports a minimum of VS 1.1 and PS 1.1 If the card does not support Vertex Shader 1.1, the game will NOT run. Period. If you have no idea what ps/vs your card supports, below is a guideline. If your card is not in the list below and is not the equivalent of an existing card, then its definitely not supported. If you have a no-name brand card, contact your manufacturers tech support and find out what ps/vs it supports. There is also a handy comparison chart on Beyond3D Read this if you have Intel® 82845G (or similar on-board) graphics card. quote: Shader Versions - vertex shader 1.1 (DX8.1 card) - pixel shader 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 (DX8.1 card) - vertex shader v2.0 (DX9 card) - pixel shader v2.0 (DX9 card) Supporting Video Cards nVidia GeForce3 class cards support vs 1.1 and ps 1.1 nVidia GeForce3 MX class cards support vs 1.1 and no ps support nVidia GeForce4 Ti class cards support vs 1.1 and ps 1.3 nVidia GeForce4 MX class cards do NOT have a shader engine - nVidia used to do this using the TnL functionality of the card. They did this via drivers and it caused some problems. They have disabled this in the more recent drivers. So no, these boards do NOT support vertex shader 1.1 nVidia GeForce4 4200 GO cards (used in laptops) support vs 1.1 and ps 1.3 nVidia GeForce4 4x0 GO cards (used in laptops) do NOT have a shader engine nVidia GeForce FX class cards support vs 2.0 and ps 2.0 nVidia GeForce FX GO class cards (used in laptops) support vs 2.0 and ps 2.0 nVidia GeForce 6800 class cards support vs 3.0 and ps 3.0 *new* ATI Radeon 7x00 class cards do NOT have a shader engine ATI Radeon 8x00 and higher class cards support vs 1.1 and ps 1.4 ATI Radeon 9000 class cards support vs 1.1 and ps 1.4 ATI Radeon 9500/9600/9700/9800/X800 class cards support vs 2.0 and ps 2.0 Matrox Parhelia class cards support vs 2.0 and ps 1.3 [ 12-28-2004, 09:15 AM: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]

The new Hud is freaking great. The models, lighting.. we are talking sweeet!!. I am seriously wondering how any of upcomming reviewers are going to be able to fault the Graphics this time around. when you consider the Scale of rendering entire planets all to scale within an entire Galaxy. sheesh. Again That/Those new Hud/s are very impressive. Hey, is there perchance still some time to toss in some deer and rabits. Looking at those terrain picks made me want to do some Buck hunting. Heck realy that looks like the only mising feature from this game. some Big Game Hunting heh. Roll on up onto some foreign planet and whip out a nice 6 point Space Yak for trade to the Gamulans In all seriousness, you guys are just doing a damn fine job. There can be no doubt that this game is going to be the Difinative Space Sim of all time. heh, if you change the subject, you automatically created a new topic. So, I've deleted yours and just posted your message in here for you. List of animals/insects etc in the game 5 animals 4 birds 6 fish 2 insects 2 reptiles oh, and its not a space sim anymore

No ambient sounds, but the plan is to have birds, insects, animals etc

  9. OK, as I suspected, apart from the crash while attempting to chat during a hyperjump, the problems so far are related to synching caused by too many packets and some getting discarded. I'm on it. Expect a server-side fix very soon. Note on the public servers : we're very close to getting something signed. Be a little patient please. Besides, in one or two updates when you can host/play on the same machine, anyone can setup a net server without requiring a dedicated machine.
  10. quote: Originally posted by GhengisX: SC... the explanation was NOT for your benefit, oh, alrighty then. I guess I'll just stop reading the forums then.
  11. The stars are based on real world positions btw i.e. the constellations are all accurate.
  12. quote: Originally posted by InsurgentKiller: Is it just a matter of patience, Yeah, that helps too btw, welcome!
  13. I dunno when you grabbed those specs, but they are incorrect. BCG requires specific ps/vs versions. Check the products info page again for BCG and refresh your browser.
  14. quote: Originally posted by Sebbish: Wow. Very cool. I could have sworn I heard somewhere that the grass and leaves will move in the wind. Is that true? Yeah thats the plan. Its just a vertex shader, so make sure your card support vertex shader 1.1 or higher and pixel shader 1.3 or higher. In fact, those are the minimum shader requirements for the game. No shader. No game.
  15. quote: Originally posted by Eclipse: http://www.gamescreenshots.com/fullpic.asp...ry=0&picOrder=0 Very nice, though I am wondering how you managed this landing getting that tree in by the wings Oh that easy, the trees are billboards are certain altitudes and solid from ground level. (Its a performance thing), so I simply landed where I saw a clearing. Quite simple really. ps: I'm surprised that nobody noticed that the wheels on that CAV were turned. All vehicles with wheels now have independent axle based suspensions, rotating/turning wheels etc etc and the entire vehicular dynamics/controls/physics have been re-written. In fact, controlling vehicles is now similar to BF1942, Tribes etc. Very simple and you can use the mouse to control the gun turrets on a vehicle which has guns (e.g. the ATV, CAB, UAV etc) while you drive with the keyboard. Yeah, I understood the reason behind the post, which is why its still standing.

I do appreciate the answers you have given me, and I hope I'll be able to play without having to divulge this information. =) Nobody needs your information for marketing. Your system configuration is not considered that sort of personal information. And since I'm not in the mood to debate this, you have been banned from the forum. Since you don't need to post in order to get tech support, you shouldn't feel so bad about it. We have rules here and NOBODY is exempt. Thanks for stopping by.
  18. I have uploaded a whopping 70+ screen shots. Check 'em out. And please, try to contain yourself, m'kay?
  19. I got a pretty detailed report from Mano today and I will be analyzing it in order to identify where the reported problems are. Stay tuned.

Does that help? When you ask for support, the first thing someone does is look at your system specs before offering assistance, suggestions etc. It saves time and cuts down on the clutter. So, you have to ensure that your system profile is correctly filled out (you had to have done it if you've registered your copy of the game. add this info to your sig before posting on the forum Anyway if you are having CD problems, clean your CDROM drive or trying copying all files from the CDROM to your HDD and then run the SETUP.EXE from there. If that doesn't work, then you most likely have a bad CDROM (which does happen). In which case, return it to the retailer and get another copy.
  22. The operative word being probably. Read what I wrote again. Slowly.
  23. heh, previous saves games are probably are invalid if you were using 1.00.01 patch.
  24. LOL!! Tac, seek help
