  1. OK thanks guys. I ran some tests yesterday and didn't experience what you are observing $ilk, but I think I need to connect to your server or something. However, I still need those files and info I asked for. I am going to be looking into the HJ and chat-while-in-HJ issue. It is possible that the packets about the new location are not being transmitted soon enough and thats probably why someone may go out of synch. I set aside today entirely to look into issues posted here (and in the Beta forums). So, please keep posting here during the day while you can. Once I have isolated something that I cannot reproduce, I will ask someone (probably you $ilk) to join my internal dev server (with me on it) so that I can see exactly what is going on.

I only said that posters don't need their sys info unless they do not intend to post in the tech support forums. This is a tech support forum and you've posted in it. Please fix your sig. And make NO mistake about this, I'm not the only one with the power to ban or restrict posting rights. So, if you see someone (especially another dev or Beta tester) tell you do to something, just DO it. Or LEAVE. This is a military installation with a command structure. Then again, you already know that, right?

What settings did they choose in the in-game server browser as their bandwidth setting? quote: Are there any ports that I need to forward that I should know about besides the one listed in the server config and the ASE browser port? All ports that should be forwarded are already documented. quote: Is there a way I can enable logging or debug to send you a log file since it appears I'm the only one running a test inet server now? Not in the release build. But you can download the debug build (4MB). Note that since this is the debug build, the server will run a bit slower. Add /d4 to the server commandline for this EXE and it will log all messages to the BCSDEBUG.LOG file. Send me the debug log file with a detailed listing of your findings to [email protected] and I'll try to reproduce this. I also need to know about your system info for that server. Also send me your BCSETUPMP.INI file (generated by the BCServerConfig app).

Sounds like lost packets due to a bad connect. Dunno. Anyway, am gonna be running some more tests this weekend. So far, it works fine here on the LAN or when I access my own server via the net. quote: Originally posted by $iLk: In addition, I tried running client and server at same time, and am wondering if they share the same ports because I cannot get the client to run by itself, even on different servers because it CTD's until I shut down my server. Once I shut down my server I connect fine. Thats not supported. Read the VCF
  5. Obviously it was a high AI level NPC and it emerged outside of the station's turret coverage (i.e. blind spot).

My brother and I are able to connect and begin playing, but shortly after we both begin either one of both of us is unable to fire our weapons (We have attempted many many times). Also, when this was occurring, one of us left our vessel, and it dissapeared. My brother, after exiting his battlecruiser, said that I was flying his ship (but I did not see that). This happens every time we play. We run 8 or so computers plugged into a hub, plugged into a Linksys BEFSR11 router. I updated to the latest firmware, checked our dchpip's and such, everything seems to check out. I have tried hosting on my machine (specs in profile), and playing on the other computer, and the same happens. One client can connect and play fine, but if the second connects, it seems like data gets mixed. Your post does not provide me with any information to use as a troubleshooting guideline, so I can't help. I have a nine cluster LAN here, all using Linksys equipement (I have a BEFSR11 router) and it works fine. So, I think you need to create a controlled environment and then give me some more detailed feedback on the setup, what is happening, when and how. Also make sure that you and your brother are (a) using unique copies of the game ( the same patched version of the game. The server does not do ANY version authentication yet. Thats why you need to look at the version listed in the game browser before connecting to it. quote: Originally posted by Darkling: Same problem here, CPU utilization on the computer I'm using as a dedicated server (which is a 800Mhz Athlon w/512Megs RAM w/WinXP Pro) is running at almost 80% upon startup and as soon as me and my son join the game the Utilization hits 100%. Game lasts a short while then crashes. I'm going to check at work to see if the same thing happens on a "Real" server running Win2K Server, instead of my small workgroup at home. But then again, that thing has a dual 1.8Ghz processors w/2Gigs of RAM so I guess it wouldn't be a fair comparison. 1. I don't see how you can say its the same problem as him. Thats just rubbish 2. That machine is the bare minimum required to run the server. Hence the 80% cpu utilization. Even then, on a 1Ghz Pentium CPU, I only (I just checked it again) register a 32% CPU utilization. So, check to see what other crap you're running on the machine.
  7. Well its just as dumb as Resnig can get. I was thinking rat and 21 questions later, it hadn't guessed it. At q20, it guessed lice. Go figure. quote: 21. Does it come in different colors? 9. LMAO!!
  10. quote: Originally posted by mudpuppy: Man. Those are some impressive shots. I'm a sucker for colored lights, so the first two or three got my attention, but when I got to those base and terrain shots, I really got excited. You're now right up there with the best of the flight sims in the terrain and ground-modeling department! Very, very nice. BCG is going to be a top-tier game all the way. hehe, it looks even better up close. Wait for the demo (due out in July/August).
  11. Because the game requires a dedicated server, its pretty difficult for people to host machines because very few people have spare machines that are powerful enough. BUT, I'm on the case and working on several deals to get public servers up. I expect that once the console mode server is finished as well as support for a non-ded server, people will get braver and be able to host servers and play on the same machine. Even a 1Ghz machine with 256MB of RAM on a broadband connection should be able to host a server for 4 people, with the client (1 of 3) playing on the same machines.

  14. quote: Originally posted by delmrr: Thanks Spin. I uninstalled/reinstalled once, and have downloaded numerous copies of the patch (even from different download sites). Nothings seems to work. But I will go thru the process again later and hope somethings catches. I initially had the patch installed, but I was getting countless crashes and screen freezes (anyone have the same problems?). That's when i uninstalled/reinstalled and cannot now get the patch to work. Just seems strange. Oh well, I'll try again later. If thats the case, then the patch was never installed properly to begin with. Hence the crashes etc.
  15. quote: Originally posted by Epsilon 5: jusr curious, that gunship in the pics (forgot the name), how many people can it carry? I know it can carry a vehicle, but I don't think you said how many people. 8 plus the two pilots
  16. quote: Originally posted by delmrr: I am having a problem getting my BCMG to patch to the 1.01 version. I get the patch from the Dreamcatcher site, save it on my desktop, then double click it to install. It seems to install, but after clicking finish, I get an error stating that it cannot find a readme file with strange characters for the file name. I click ok to exit, it all then disappears. Now I run the game, but i only get the default 1.00.04 version that ive had all along. I had successfully installed the patch earlier in the evening, but i was getting crashes and freezing, so i uninstalled, then reinstalled. Since that time, i get the above patch problem. Im pulling my hair out in frustration. Has anyone else experienced this and, if so, what am i missing? Please post tech support related issues in the tech support area. READ the troubleshooting FAQ. Thats why it was written. And it has clear specs for applying patches. Also, I just KNEW that some people were going to apply this patch without paying ANY attention to the dialogs that are displayed. The patch assumes that you have the game installed in the DEFAULT path. If you changed this when you installed the game, then you need to point the patch to the new folder when the destination dialog prompt comes up. The only reason I used Installshield is because it was the only way to fix the incorrect shortcut parameters because rtPatch won't do it. quote: Originally posted by MindFever: me too ... well,i tryed one thing:removed the save files and then launched bcmg.exe with /c parameter...*joke* ... Keep posting rubbish in my forums and misleading people (the /c flag is no longer used, was deliberately removed by the patch etc etc) and you WILL be banned. quote: Originally posted by Spindoktor: I noticed one odd thing when installing the patch. On the final screen, with the finish button active, the "check" button box next to "show the readme file" is not visible. But if you mouse over where it should be, it will appear. You can then uncheck it. Which I did, and the patch installed fine. That is a harmless quirk in Installshield. Besides, you have no business disabling the readme because it was designed for you to READ IT. *TOPIC MOVED*
  17. ...as if we didn't already know that. Retards.
  18. While I was out today I picked it up. Maybe I'll sign up later this weekend. So, where are you creeps going to be hanging out at?

  22. I am going to be organizing a fleet wars campaign on one of our private servers. Since BCMG caps at 32 players per server, this means only 32 people at any event. Don't worry, all of you will get your chance. So, if you want in, advise your fleet leader. Each fleet leader is required to pick himself and up to five of his best commanders to participate in this event. All names should be registered in this thread. More details to come.
  23. HINT: A probe will slow down when it makes a jump to a new region.
  24. Just bloody amazing
  25. If you are running a fleet server, make sure you password protect it and then only send the password to fleet members via email. I would advise that you folks get a mailing list going (check Yahoo, they have a good one and its free) for your fleet. Then you can use this for passing IPs and passwords around. I will be releasing a special fleet only server build very soon. This will allow server saving. The upcoming console based server version will also help those of you with powerful machines and who want to host a server and play as a client on the same machine. Its actually done, but not yet fully tested. If you want to give it a spin, just add /console to the "Start MP Server" shortcut and it will start in console mode instead of the graphical mode. It is 100% unsupported. Once I add it to the VCF, then you know its supported.
