  1. Wow, 2008 has been quite a year http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/Music/08/1...obit/index.html
  2. Nice trailer but there's a lot more to an MMO based on a cursed (for gaming) IP than trailers. Since Cryptic are more likely to pull it off than those previous wankers, I'm certainly rooting for them.
  3. Looks good, though you may need to run the game at the native resolution of the laptop. If the game does not support that resolution, you would have to manually set it in the ucconfig.ini file as described in the FAQ.
  4. What are the specs for your laptop? If they meet with the minimum specs for the game, you should be fine. The most important is that you need to check the shader model that the laptop chipset has.
  5. oooh, this one's easy. Get Universal Combat Collector's Edition. The graphics are not as modern as the more recent Galactic Command Echo Squad SE, but they're passable. And if you buy it direct from BMT Micro, you'll get the retail boxed copy with the printed game manual, keyboard commands and galaxy map.
  6. What!!!?!!!!

  10. Problem with that is he can't purchase it. So he has no choice but to play the free games or the demos. There is a UCSE demo I believe.
  11. nVidia is pretty serious about this PhysX on the GPU thing - even though the software SDK used by PhysX pales in comparison to the likes of Havoc, Newton, ODE, Bullet. Heck, it doesn't even have rigid body dynamics - required for doing vehicle (wheels) properly. http://www.hothardware.com/Articles/NVIDIA...X_Pack_Preview/
  12. All the answers are in the game's appendix I believe.
  13. Since I have no plans for another title in the BC/UC series, I would say that capturing starbases is pretty much out of the picture.
  14. http://www.ajc.com/business/content/busine...metap_sale.html http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/news/gam...e-warner/?biz=1 Hope that anyone who loses their job, gets to land on their feet. The folks (at lease the ones I worked directly with) are really top notch and classy folks. It sucks when stuff like this happens. But thats our industry I suppose. I hope Google buys them because with their "hands off" approach and work ethics, letting the GameTap brain trust do their own thing - rather being part of the whole Warner/Turner/AOL clusterfuck - would be a good thing. GameTap is an idea that was well ahead of its time and it just needs to shed its training wheels, find someone to actually drive the damn bus - preferably with the lights off. Services like this usually have at least a three to five year span to profitability. But when you see stuff like this (the cheeky beancounters at Turner are calling it a "noncash impairment", and thats just sad since it doesn't exactly exude confidence in the service) it all points to someone at the top not fully understanding what they have or what to do with it. Sound familiar? And they need to get rid of Exent. Period. Lack of proper Vista and 64-Bit support are just a part of the problem with the tech and there is no excuse for that. None whatsoever.

  17. Where? Really? And after about 12+ years and ten titles, you've only heard of these games, now? That would be a waste of time - and money. The Battlecruiser series evolved into the Universal Combat series in 2004. For this hardcore series, your jumping point should be the latest game, Universal Combat CE. You can try the Special Edition demo. The Galactic Command series is more combat action and nowhere near as complex as the BC/UC series. So, we're talking about two distinct style of games. You might want to try the demo. No. Its a different type of game. Roaming such a huge galaxy in a fighter is nigh impossible due to the fact that, well, you'd just die a lot and there's nothing to do in a fighter. Yes.
  18. A patch has been released for the demo; bringing the game engine to the current version as the full game.
  19. This patch requires the June 2008 (or later) DirectX runtime Use the game Updater to download and apply the patch. The online VCF has also been updated.
  20. This patch requires the June 2008 (or later) DirectX runtime Use the game Updater to download and apply the patch. The online VCF has also been updated. NOTES: The patches use a different installer. So be sure to confirm the location of your install in the dialog which appears!! If you use the game's Updater, it will download the patch and apply it. If you don't want to use the Updater, then you have to check one of the public mirrors for a link to the full patch. NOTE Games supported: UCCE v1.00.03 (or higher) Full (Take2 DVD-ROM retail version) UCCE v1.00.03.01 (or higher) Full (Direct2Drive or Gamers Gate version) * UCCE v1.00.03.01 (or higher) Full (Digital River version) * UCCE v1.00.03.01 (or higher) Full (BMT Micro UCSE to UCCE upgrade version) * * IF YOU BOUGHT THESE VERSIONS BEFORE 11-01-07 - AND YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY DONE THIS - YOU HAVE TO EDIT YOUR SETTINGS.INI FILE BEFORE USING THE GAME UDPATER. THIS IS BECAUSE IT NOW SUPPORTS ALL THE VARIOUS DRM VERSIONS. FAILURE TO DO THIS WILL RESULT IN YOUR DRM SIGNATURE BEING INVALIDATED (DUE TO AN INCORRECT PATCH BEING DOWNLOADED AND APPLIED). Go to your game install folder and make a backup of the SETTINGS.INI file. Then load the SETTINGS.INI file in Notepad. Go to the UPDATEINFO section and make the following changes depending on which version you have. If you have the current version, no changes are required. When done, save the file, exit Notepad and run the Updater. If you run the game and you are prompted for license info, then you messed something up. In which case you will have to rollback to the previous patch and do it over.

  23. X3 Terran Conflict - Deep Silver / Enlight The Tomorrow War 1 - 1C The Precursors 1 - Russobit-M Dark Horizons 2 - Paradox MMO: Blackstar 3 - Spacetime Studios Black Prophecy 4 - 10tackle / Reakktor Media Jumpgate Evolution - Net Devil Infinity - Quest For Earth - Infinity[/code] 1 At least two of these probably won't be available in North America 2 This is actually the sequel to Tarr Chronicles but renamed by Paradox (the publisher) to Dark Horizons instead of Tarr2 3 May never see the light of day, due to the first publisher (NCSoft) canceling it earlier this year. Though the devs are still apparently working on it after having cut down their work dev team recently by 16. 4 May never see the light of day, due to 10tacle (the publisher) going out of business. Though the devs are still apparently working on it. Did I miss any worth mentioning?
  24. I haven't seen anything mentioned about it here, but for you X3 fans, this is the next (and possibly final) title in the X3 series. http://www.egosoft.com/games/x3_tc/screenshots_en.php
