If I'm boring you, please accept my apologies, but I would really like to be able to get this issue fixed, as it's very fixable IMO.. just trying to help The 5500 is simply a stunning card that still has the best FSAA quality, and remains THE best choice for the sims I play (Grand Prix Legends, Falcon 4, European Air War.) Thanks, Jammer. Mapping a sphere of arbitrary size (yours is arbitrary because you don't know the size of the sphere when rendered in the BCM game world) and just texture mapping it is not the same as having a massive planet in very large world space and subject to the W/Z extents. Lets not even get into the fact that in order to even do that above, you need to know the min/max W/Z buffer values. Not, you're not boring me - I'm just going to bother with this because you obviously don't know what you're talking about. And since neither I, nor Brian Hook (the architect of Glide and someone who knows those cards inside out. I spoke with him at length about this problem) can solve the problem (we agree that it is in the driver), please don't waste my time. I'm glad you think the V5 so advanced. In other parts of the world, it is old, an antique, not next-gen and not even supported by a wide variety of next-gen 3D games for the same reason: drivers are buggy and no longer updated. The games you mention are just as old as the card itself and do not render worlds the size of those in BCM. Besides, I'm not sure why the planetary texture map bothers you. Its not like you are sitting there staring at the planet, are you? All other issues can be resolved using the recommended drivers and the command line settings mentioned in the FAQ. Super Carrier missing fighters?

I was just browsing the BCC forum and noticed this thread. Though he has been banned, you guys should be able to tell by now (from his posting style and regurgitated repetitive bullshit) that its the same idiot (Shirley aka Herbert aka Fabio aka etc etc) who roams the VE and other boards doing the same thing.

I guess it's curtains, then?

Super Carrier missing fighters?
Supreme Cmdr replied to Hudson's topic in Battlecruiser 3000AD (Legacy)
The Aestrom only has 8 fighters. Dunno why Gallion has 10 in there. It must not have been updated in while. Take a look at DATAASSETS.INI line #109 and you will see its fighter complement. [ 01-23-2002: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ] -
quote: Originally posted by Ganjo: Ok, the game was ok until a few hours ago, it started crushing every 5 minutes, it just froze. then at one point. I saved the game in order to be sure. Then When I tried to restore it crashed again and gave me the message "Sav file format error" ??? Patch properly and READ the FAQ. That message will ONLY appear if the saved game is incompatible with the current patched version of the game. And please add your system profile to your sig before posting again. In fact, while EB did spent quite a bundle of money on marketing (ads, banners, instore display etc), the game mostly sells itself. Of course, getting all your relatives and friends to buy a copy also helps. Lets put it this way, if it wasn't selling as expected, there'd be no XP add-ons and I'd be more focused on BCO, where the real money is.

Doing a complete OS wipe (as most people seem to have done) or upgrading to winXP usually solves a lot of problems with programs and not just BCM. I've been trying to come up with a common denominator (win98se,nVidia,SBLive!) as Duncan mentioned, in order to find the culprit. So, if these are the only two options available, well then guys, you're going to have to pick one. I didn't develop the OS nor the drivers - I'm only responsible for BCM. I don't have time. If you want to stress test your system, attack the New America station while playing as Terran/Military or one of the Gammulan stations. Post your game config settings and compare with others. I have said this before, the 2183 drivers are NOT very good, when compared to the 22x or 23x driver subset. Your performance issues are NOT tech support related. If you run the game at the recommended requirements without changing a thing, the game will run properly.

The plot thickens - My Marine Corps Separation Saga

Did we REALLY need another thread about this? -
If you thought David Lynch was weird before - nothing will prepare you for this one. It is an indie film on limited release, but you might want to go see it. The movie is 2hr 27mins long. I guarantee that most, 2hr 27mins into the movie; and right up to the credits, won't get it. David's just whacked. Totally whacked.

Easier way to travel fast (with aslow ship)

He didn't say anything about shuttle speeds, did he? Shuttles ARE faster than carriers and always have been. The only difference is that the shuttle speed is dependent on the size of the object being towed. Even then, depending on what the shuttle is towing, it will still be faster than the carrier its towing, in some cases. At any rate, what he's doing is perfectly legal. quote: Originally posted by Spider-man: GREAT ADVICE! I'll try this with the 21.83's first and see if I can get the error window or log file. I'll then try the 22.80's, same procedure. AGAIN you are NOT paying attention The error log won't occur if you are having system problems. That error log will only appear if/when BCM itself generates an internal error. From I've read so far, 2183 drivers are stable on your system but you have performance issues. So, use whatever drivers work for you and be done with it.

quote: Originally posted by Duncan Idaho: That makes by my count a total of 5 people with this same issue, all with that same combination of hardware/OS. Can you list all those five (5) please? Thanks And while you're at it, use the Detonator Destroyer to remove the 2280 drivers (you can find it over at 3dchipset.com I think). Then try the 2311 drivers. Remember to re-install DX8.1 before or after installing video drivers. And you MUST drop the card's acceleration down a notch. I don't you mention that at all. Again, none of this is of interest to me. Please READ my post again. Slowly this time. In fact, I just added to it. The fact is, the 2183 drivers are very, very old. Even if you THINK they solved your stability issues, the one thing you forgot is that after you did the full OS re-install, you SHOULD have used either the 2280 or 2311 drivers since those are specifically optimized (the 2183 is NOT) for your OS and video card. You HAVE to pay attention. I don't think you are. Apart from that, you're not very consistent and I'm trying to keep track of WHAT exactly you're up to and/or saying. e.g. you talk about slowdowns, YET, you NEVER once mentioned your Config settings. We're supposed to just guess all this crap? *sheesh*

quote: Originally posted by Spider-man: Man it's been a long night. Here's what I did. OK, NOW I'm confused. I thought that your #1 complaint was instability. As far as I can see, you no longer have that problem. The slowdown IS normal and is dependent on a LOT of things. Including : the OS being used the Config screen res the Config screen depth the video drivers the CPU the video card type if you are playing music Most of the game's processing comes from the AI kernel. Graphics is not the bottleneck. So, in a large battle, even a PIII 1Ghz can come to its knees. So, PLEASE don't confuse the issue. This thread is NOT for performance tweaking. It is for runtime problems. Try changing all of the above params and you will see that the fps during processing in massive battles, will vary. I'm not sure WHAT you were expecting. And why are you still using the 2183 nVidia drivers??!?? Or is your profile out of date again? btw, to run a test like that unattended, you should increase the shield level, arm the PTA system, put the craft in PATROL profile and engage the A/P. In fact, you should upgrade to the most powerful shield first. Doing this, your ship may survive longer and you can leave the game running overnight. I'm not sure, but I think the /i (invincible flag) also works in the current version. You could try adding this and your CC will never be subject to destructive damage - allowing you to run the game for extended periods during stability tests such as this. You might want to disable music playback as well You should also run with /d2 /w2 so that if/when it terminates, there is a log file and/or error window. e.g. BCM.EXE /n /i /d2 /w2 [ 01-22-2002: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
